2 Page Two Dear Parishioners, It s good to be back after a week and a half of vacation. I was able to go into Independence Hall in Philadelphia on the 4th of July. Most people don t realize that George Washington spent all 8 years of his presidency in Philadelphia which was the temporary capital until Washington DC could be built. I also got to see a Phillies Baseball game. Unfortunately the opposing team hit 4 home runs and won the game. As they say: It s good to go, but it s great to come back home. While I was gone Pope Francis put out his encyclical, Lumen Fidei, meaning the Light of Faith. He acknowledges that most of the encyclical was written by Pope Benedict. It comes out during this Year of Faith so we can meditate more on this theological virtue. You can read it on the internet or it will soon be out in your Catholic bookstores. Thanks to all who have sent your census forms in. We have over 700 responses at this point so please send in your form ASAP. I am keeping all the suggestions that you have made. If you did not get a letter from me regarding our census then you are not registered or we do not have your correct address. If that is the case please let us know. From our census form responses we have identi ied a number of homebound parishioners. If anyone is interested in bringing communion to the homebound please give me a call. We need your help. The day before I left on vacation a beautiful red vestment of Sts. Peter & Paul came in the mail so now we have a white one and a red one. This red vestment was donated by JoJo Sonnier and her family in memory of Hubert Sonnier. May he rest in peace. Thanks to JoJo and family. Next year the Solemnity of Sts. Peter & Paul falls on a Sunday so we will be able to wear the red vestment at all Masses on that weekend. By the way, in Philadelphia I was able to attend Mass at the Cathedral of Sts. Peter & Paul, a beautiful basilica. Today we begin Natural Family Planning Week. The readings both this week and next week it in well with this theme. Today Sarah is promised a child and next week the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is hinted at. The theme this year is Natural Family Planning: Pro-Woman, Pro-Man, Pro-Child. Let us pray that all married couples will learn the beauty of this method as opposed to the evil of contraception which our government is trying to force our Catholic institutions and Catholic business people to provide. The proof is in the pudding. Less than 5% of NFP couples divorce compared to the national average of 50%. So Gods way pays off. We do have couples in Lafayette teaching the NFP method. There are classes starting August 7, or August 25, or September 10 all in our area. We have a great Bible course starting August 26. Check our bulletin on Page 3 for more information. I love you all. The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation is a 24- week study course that makes reading the Bible not only easy, but exciting. In this study, you will learn the major people, places, events and themes of the Bible--getting the "big picture" of salvation history. Ginger Sensat will facilitate this 24-week course on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm in the CCD building beginning on August 26, The course will include a video presentation by Jeff Cavins and small group discussions on assigned Bible readings. David Kauffman in Concert David Kauffman in Concert will be held on Friday, August 15 at 7:00pm at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings. This is a free concert.
