2 Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 15, 2017 I can do all things in him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 Perpetual Adoration Chapel St. Bridget is privileged to have a Perpetual Adoration Chapel. All have the opportunity to experience the real presence of Jesus. Let us treasure the chapel by patronizing it. We need to develop a Catholic habit of making regular visits to the chapel. The chapel is open during daylight hours. Those wishing to spend time with the Blessed Sacrament between 8 pm and 6 am need to contact the rectory at for a key fob. Parents are encouraged to stop in and visit Jesus with your children or spend some alone quiet time with Him. THE HEAVENLY BANQUET The mountain of the Lord described in today s first reading is a place where there is no more hunger, no more weeping, and no more division of any kind. We need to pause and ponder these images every now and then, especially given the fact that we live in such a fractured world. The responsorial psalm continues to paint a picture of a place where only goodness and kindness flourish. These readings describe the heavenly banquet, to which God calls each of us through baptism and continues to call us throughout our lives. Let us RSVP to God s invitation and live our lives consistent with gospel values so that one day we will be welcomed to the table of the kingdom. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. The Solemnity of All Saints (Wednesday, November 1, 2017) is a Holy Day of Obligation this year. Mass will be celebrated on this day at 8am and 6pm. On the weekend of Oct our parish will celebrate a White Mass for all those who work in all capacities in the medical and mental health professions. 4 Why We Believe The Diocese of Houma Thibodaux Strategic Plan is underway. Group Sessions for the Why We Believe video series are being held in every parish in the diocese. All are welcome to view the videos here in the parish or online. St. Bridget group sessions are: Sunday - between the two masses Tuesday after daily mass (8:40 am) Wednesday 6 pm Saturday after 8:30 am Mass All group sessions will be held in Didier Hall. Participants are encouraged to bring a Bible and copy of the Catechism of the Catholic faith. Bibles and copies of the CCC can be borrowed during class time only from the religious education program. CDA News Catholic Daughters of the Americas meet the 2nd Thursday of the month. The next meeting is November 9th. The court will be preparing Thanksgiving baskets for the needy in the area. Have I made plans for that? How will my loved ones know my wishes? These are questions that we will all have to answer one day. What would you do if something happened in your family tomorrow? We don t like to think about those things and much less discuss the subject, but death is inevitable. Getting your burial space ahead of time is good family planning. If you buy now, you have choices. There are three different types of doubles, four different levels, also family units. There are different options for payment as well. The moment you sign up you are covered. The main thing is that you have the opportunity as husband and wife, and perhaps your entire family, to do your planning together in the privacy of your own home. Taking care of these plans now is a lot easier than to do so following a death. Representatives Ronnie Thibodeaux, Joe Blanchard, Tommy Lyons and Keith Melerine from American Cemetery Consultants, are now available to meet at your home or in Didier hall to answer questions about the mausoleum and help you to choose the option that is right for you. The number of crypts selected before construction will determine the final size of the mausoleum. Anyone wanting information should either mail in the postage paid reply card from the brochure that was mailed to your home or call Poor Box Donations The St. Vincent de Paul Society uses donations from the poor box to help members of our community who are in need. Donations can be placed in the box near the doors at the front entrance of the Church.

5 Trunk or Treat October 29th St. Bridget will host Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 29th from 4 6 pm. All are invited to join in the fall festivities. Feel free to decorate your truck, car, van, SUV, or 10x10 tent and bring goodies for the children. We will have free hot dogs, chili, and drinks as well as a pumpkin decorating contest. The afternoon of fun is for all ages. Come in your Halloween costume (not too scary) as we gather as a community. This is open to all not just parishioners; bring your family and friends to enjoy the fun, games, food, and fellowship. Call the CCD office at to reserve a spot for your tent or vehicle. Feel free to call at any time and leave a message; we will return your call. Youth in grades 9 11 will be helping with Trunk or Treat as a service project. Others needing service hours should contact Miss Bernadette for more details. Family News Support Our Youth Oct 14 & 15 The youth will host a sweet sale after all masses this weekend. Donations of sweets, cakes, fudge, brownies, etc. will be accepted. All proceeds will help defray the cost of youth events including NCYC, Youth Rally, Game Night, etc. Thanks for your support of the youth of St. Bridget. Altar Server News Thanks to all who have answered the call to serve the Lord as Altar Servers. This ministry is open to the young and young at heart. For more details, contact Lori Olin or Miss Bernadette. Wanted Music Ministers Music Ministers (singers) are needed for the 4pm and 10:30 am masses. Contact Mark Olin or Bernadette Mabile for more details or just come up and help sing at the mass of your preference. The only commitment is to arrive at mass 30 minutes early for practice. 6 World Mission Sunday Next week, we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Each year, the en re Church is invited to support the young mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of La n America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the poorest of the poor. This year, we are invited to Chat With The Pope to learn more about his missions. Scan this year s World Mission Sunday poster using Facebook Messenger for your mobile device, or learn more at Chat- WithThePope.org Pray the Rosary in October October is dedicated to Our Mother Mary. An outdoor, public rosary will be prayed on Saturday, October 14th on the church grounds. Families are encouraged to attend. Bring a lawn chair and a rosary. Sign in begins at 11:30 am. Catholic Daughter members are reminded that this is the October rosary for the Court. John de Brébeuf, Isaac Jogues, and Companions Friday: St. Paul of the Cross Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary Guidelines for Baptism Prior to baptizing a child, the parents and Godparents must attend a baptismal seminar. The next baptismal seminar will be held November 8 at 6:30 pm in the Annex. Those seeking to baptize a child can complete the registration forms in the office Monday Friday between 8 am and 3 pm. The office must be made aware of the desire to baptize a child and desire to attend the seminar. The registration form can also be found at the parish website, stbridget-htdiocese.org, and ed to the parish through the Contact Us link. While the Church only requires one qualified Godparent for a child to be baptized, two Godparents may be chosen, although in this case one must be male and one female. Anyone who is to be a Godparent must meet the qualifications established by the Church, which are as follows. Godparents must have received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, and be practicing Catholics, at least 16 years old who lead a life in harmony with the faith. If married, the proposed Godparents must be in a marriage recognized by the Church. If not married, they must not be simulating marriage by living with someone.
