Paul Soukup = PS NO COMPARISONS How many times have we read or heard about someone who s gotten into trouble maybe even fired from a job because of a brush with the law? While our Christian minds tell us to be sorry and even pray for the person, a little voice inside our heads may also be saying, I m glad I would never do anything like that. And perhaps we wouldn t. But are there some things we do that are still not pleasing in God s eyes? Today s readings caution us not to look so intently at someone else s wrongdoing that we overlook our own weaknesses and shortcomings. When we measure ourselves against the worst people we can think of, we come out looking pretty good. There is a danger, however, in using someone else s behavior as a way of reflecting our own goodness. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Our Altar of the Remembrance will stay under Mary's Shrine until Saturday, November 25th. Any pictures left after November 26th will be brought to the Parish Office and may be picked up there. A Fond Farewell to Deacon Hon Thank you to all our SFC organizations and volunteers who came together to put on a lovely send-off to Deacon Hon as he said his final goodbyes to the St. Frances Cabrini Community. We wish him well as he heads out on the road to Boston. SFC Ladies League - Next Mtg. Nov. 21st Join us for our Ladies League November 21st monthly meeting. We will be collecting canned foods for our food drive and making arrangements for a foundation called Random Acts of Flowers Check out their web page. at They do something very special for others. This last months mtg. we collected Halloween costumes and designed us some pretty fabulous pumpkins. 4 THEOLOGY ON TAP Religious Education NEXT UP - Save the Date November 2nd Leanne Ruperto "Created Body and Soul Living in time with eternity in mind" As a disengaged cradle Catholic who didn't find the faith very interesting or being in a Catholic environment optimal to say the least, Leanne chose to stay local to study Kinesiology at California State University, Fresno. This decision was also made despite the opportunity her parents gave her to attend Franciscan University of Steubenville where her two older siblings went. She chose Kinesiology to learn about exercise and nutrition with the desire to advocate healthy lifestyle changes to the growing diabetes II and obesity population in the United States. Shortly after graduating and moving up to the Bay Area, Leanne encountered Christ in a deeply personally way after the death of a beloved aunt. This encounter was facilitated by reflections on the human person as created body and soul, the Sacrament of Penance, reading through a sketch-book version of the Catholic Catechism, attending Daily Mass, and ultimately being introduced to the phenomenal teachings of St. John Paul II--more specifically, Theology of the Body (TOB). Currently, she seeks to discover and unpack the ways TOB can influence a person s day-to-day decisions and circumstances. More specifically, she aspires to fuse the original intention she had with studying Kinesiology with TOB: to advocate conscious health of the body--not as an end in itself or for reasons of vanity --but for the sake of its inherent purpose: "gift." Further information can be found at info@totsv.org Theology on Tap is a program of lectures sponsored by a number of local Catholic dioceses. The lectures, which are often given by noted spiritual leaders and religious academics, address current topics in religion and theology, and are notable and sometimes controversial for their venue, which is normally a bar or restaurant! Nov. 10th "Saints in the City" event held at St. Lawrence Church 6:30pm to hear guest speaker Ms. Michele Borba's talk on parenting and teenage challenges. Her topic includes the importance of communication and how to move beyond the "Selfie" mentality and get to significant conversations about Faith & Life. Nov 13th the feast day of St. Frances Cabrini 9:30am Family Mass celebration with donuts. This will be followed by a procession with the Rosary prayed in FIVE languages and the response prayed in English. The 11:30am Mass will be with the ICF and followed by a reception in the gym. Nov. 16th All Religious Ed parents, children and teachers in the church at 5pm for the mandatory "Safe Environment talk by the Diocese of San Jose. This past Saturday in our SFC gym, long time parishioner, Mr. Bill Billings, Veteran Army Medic from World War II, was awarded a "Quilt of Valor" for his service in England & France. Also, Sgt. Rachel Follo, who returned from her tour of duty in Afghanistan this Summer, presented Fr. Paolo a special Certificate and flag flown over the Country dedicated to "St. Frances Cabrini Parish".
