So, still in his dream, Solomon answers God s question about what he desires most, and God grants his request for wisdom in abundance. In our waking hours, we are much distracted by work, home, family, traffic, entertainment, and many worries. When we try to think about what we really want out of life, we have trouble even imagining what that might be. But deep inside, our real longings dwell, known to God and to the Holy Spirit. Our dreams, unencumbered by defenses, may hold clues to what our deepest needs are, or what bothers us most. They could be God speaking. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc ST. Psalm Lord, I love your commands (Psalm 119). Second Reading All things work for good for those who love God (Romans 8:28-30). Gospel The one who knows of the kingdom of heaven brings new and old from the storeroom (Matthew 13:44-52 [44-46]). Have you ever had to choose between food and medicine for your child or pay rent? A car repair or a doctor s visit? Food or a water bill? Many of the people that come to our door in need of help, have. Please help those in need within our local community. Every dollar counts in helping those who cannot help themselves in times of need and for what many of us are able to do without thinking twice. Most just need someone to extend a hand and say We are here SFC has that ability but only through the generosity of our parishioners. Please give what you can today for our SVdP Special Collection. 100% of donations go to SFC s SVdP Outreach Program. There will be a special collection for SVdP TODAY, July 30th. This collection is taken up quarterly and funds are needed to serve our local community. Our SVdP pantry is in dire need of food! We are COMPLETELY out of: spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, jam and jellies. We have enough pasta to fill 4 shelves but can use tomato sauce, canned mushrooms and canned olives. We are VERY LOW on (less than 10 cans!) Canned corn, canned veggies cans of carrots, etc) canned fruit, cereal ramen soup, canned soup, mac and cheese, oatmeal and pasta sauce. Extra large cans make it difficult to back a bag that will hold the basics and then some. But regardless of size, we will take what is so generously donated. COMPASSION If you love the justice of Jesus Christ more than you fear human judgment, then you will seek to do compassion. Instead of a small cramped gesture that gives no notion of its meaning, let us make a large unhurried sign, from forehead to breast, from shoulder to shoulder, consciously feeling how it includes the whole of us, our thoughts, our attitudes, our body and soul, every part of us at once. how it consecrates and sanctifies us. It does so because it is the Sign of the universe and the sign of our redemption. On the cross Christ redeemed mankind. By the cross he sanctifies man to the last shred and fiber of his being. We make the sign of the cross before we pray to collect and compose ourselves and to fix our minds and hearts and wills upon God. We make it when we finish praying in order that we may hold fast the gift we have received from God. In temptations we sign ourselves to be strengthened; in dangers, to be protected. The cross is signed upon us in blessings in order that the fullness of God's life may flow into the soul and fructify and sanctify us wholly. Think of these things when you make the sign of the cross. It is the holiest of all signs. Make a large cross, taking time, thinking what you do. Let it take in your whole being,--body, soul, mind, will, thoughts, feelings, your doing and not-doing, and by signing it with the cross strengthen and consecrate the whole in the strength of Christ, in the name of the triune God.
