PASSION The word passion connotes deep, focused engagement. It also relates to passivity, interestingly. The deeply passionate person in the Gospel narrative from Luke is Jesus. He appears passive, but he is not. He is wholly self-possessed and wholly present for the one day that begins on Thursday evening at his last meal with his apostles and ends with his burial before sunset the next day. Then follows the long Sabbath silence. The narrative of the Passion is read whole and without pause on the Palm Sunday of the Passion. This story, found in each of the Gospels, is unchanging. We are the ones who change. Each year, we bring ourselves with another year s history to hear and heed the story we so badly need. St. Frances Cabrini 17th Annual Golf Tournament Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose, CA. SIGNUP & INFORMATION: EVENT DAY The SFC Golf Tournament is a scramble format. Contests include closest-to-the-pin and longest drive. 10:00am: Check- In & Range Practice 12noon: Shotgun Start 5:00pm: 19th Hole reception followed by Dinner & Awards Entry Deadline: May 9, 2016 Entry will be limited to the first 144 golfers. Appropriate golf attire required. St. Frances Cabrini established its Annual Golf Tournament to create a fun parish activity and to help provide funding for projects supported by the membership. The Tournament has raised over $195,000 in the past fifteen years and has benefited many projects at both St. Frances Cabrini School and Parish, including: *Gym Upgrades *School Endowment Fund *Classroom Upgrades & Materials *Sports Equipment *Pavement Improvement Project. 4 SFCabrini Helping Others Our guests have arrived! We need your help to support our guests and are seeking volunteers for a variety of services we will extend to these women. To offset the costs of hosting our 15 guests, gift cards such as Costco, Target, Smart & Final will be needed and greatly appreciated! This is what Time and Talent is all about! Call to Volunteer March 16 to April 13 Join us in a unique ministry to serve the homeless as we shelter 15 women in the weeks ahead. Second Reading Christ emptied himself, and God filled this emptiness with exaltation (Philippians 2:6-11). Gospel The account of Christ s passion according to Luke (Luke 22:14 23:56 [23:1-49]). GREETERS Do you like people? Are you fun and outgoing? If you answered yes to either one of these questions--we want you to become one of our weekend Greeters at Mass. Those who are currently doing it are making lots of new friends. We especially need Greeters on Saturday at the 5 PM Mass and Sunday at the 8 AM, 11:30 AM and the new 5:30 PM Masses. Our St. Vincent de Paul Pantry is low and in need of Spaghetti Sauce, Jam, Peanut Butter, Canned Fruit, Canned Soup, Canned Vegetables, Ramon Noodles, Dry Cereal and Oatmeal, Tuna...anything really, as food is needed! CLOTHE THE NAKED What if your brother didn t have a coat to keep him warm through the winter? What would you do to make sure he got one? Well, your brothers and sisters in Christ are out there right now without proper clothing to satisfy a legitimate need. We can clothe the naked by donating good used clothes to Sacred Heart community and by donating shoes and coats to poor children. Religious Education Please continue to pray for our 8 RCIC students who will be Baptized, Confirmed and receive their First Holy Communion on Holy Saturday, March 26th. Sign ups for the Diocese of San Jose 21st Annual High School Youth Retreat continue and are still open! If you are an 8th grader graduating elementary school through 12th grader graduating high school come join us. This annual high school retreat is held up at Zephyr Cove on beautiful Lake Tahoe from June 13th to 17th. $310. includes round trip bus ride, 11 meals, tee-shirt, one week s "hotel style" lodging, swimming, games, daily Mass, Reconciliation evening prayer service, Adoration Chapel, Keynote Speaker and much more! This is a family event. Dinner will be polenta and sausage, salad, garlic bread, dessert and coffee. There will be a no host bar, door prizes and raffle baskets. Come and enjoy a wonderful dinner and dance to music provided by DJ Gino Popolizio. Adult ticket are $30; children 12 and under are $12.50; children 6 and under are free.
