3 PRAYER FOR PRIESTS Jesus Christ, Great High Priest, You are able to sympathize with our human weakness Strengthen your priests for the work of ministry. You healed, proclaimed, and taught. Renew your priests in their concern for the poor, zeal for the Gospel, and personal witness to virtue. You instituted the sacraments as signs of heavenly grace. Make holy your priests for this sacred service. You bore our sufferings and sins upon yourself. May your priests remain close to the broken-hearted. Jesus Christ, Great High Priest, bring your priests ever closer to your Sacred Heart. Amen. PARISH CONCERT SATURDAY, November 10th 7:00 in the Church The Parish Concert is quickly approaching! Come and hear songs such as Oceans Where Feet May Fail, Fear is a Liar, You Raise Me Up, Glorious, and many more! Some of the groups involved will be the Children s Choir, the Resurrection Choir, Joyful Noise, the Peot Family, and various small groups. The election will be over and Veterans Day is the day after. We will have a very special tribute to our veterans and you really don t want to miss it! Tell your friends and family and bring a friend for a great evening of inspirational music and fellowship. Please mark your calendars and join us!! CARE PACKAGES for COLLEGE students!! Do you have a young adult in college? Would you like him/her to receive a care package from St. John s right before their final exams begin? Our youth of the parish will fill a box with love, goodies, religious swag, a prayer for success on exams, and an invitation to join Fr. Scott for a social in January, all for $15. Due to the popularity and desire to send more to our students, we will be utilizing larger flat rate boxes this year. We want our college students to know that we are thinking about them and praying for them. We also want them to know that they have a place with our community when they come home for the winter break! *for any student attending any type of secondary education (even if they live at home) *must be a member of St. John the Baptist *we need a full name and address We have only 30 boxes that will be filled, so get in touch with us fast!! 4 Meet the 6 Saints that were Canonized In October Pope Francis Canonized six saints on October 14th. Archbiship Óscar Romero ( ) The archbishop of San Salvador, El Salvador, from 1977 until his martyrdom, Archbishop Romero was an outspoken opponent of the political strife and injustice in his country, although he did not support liberation theology. Ordained a priest in 1942, he studied in Rome and served for many years as a parish priest, as auxiliary bishop of San Salvador and as bishop of Santiago de María. He was murdered March 24, 1980, for his defense of El Salvador s poor while saying Mass, and his assassins were never brought to justice. Have unexpectedly been hospitalized? Please let the staff at the hospital know that you belong to St. John the Baptist, Howard and that you would like a visit. When you do this, the hospital is supposed to call the parish to let us know. Deacon Nick Williams and Ruth Holloway, Pastoral Minister, visit the hospitals regularly. We are sorry if you have been in the hospital and not received a visit, but often the parish staff is unaware that you have been hospitalized. If, after your hospital stay, you will be in a rehab facility or will require nursing home care, please call the office to let us know where you are. The hospitals are not allowed to tell us and we want to know so we can bring communion to you during your stay. Help us keep track of you and your family! 5 Perfumes & Colognes Just a reminder to be aware of strong perfumes or colognes worn to mass. The reason being that many people have allergies or are highly sensitive to these scents. We appreciate your consideration when applying your perfumes or colognes. The newly restored St. Francis Xavier Cathedral will host celebrations that focus on various groups of the faithful, some of whom have not typically been acknowledged during a special liturgy. We are not only asking for God s mercy and forgiveness but we are asking Him to heal us. Heal us from all that temps us. Heal our minds. Heal our bodies. What suffering or ailment in our lives needs healing? We each bring something unique and personal before the Lord and together pray with the angels and saints for
