Int. - MH CHOICE If you choose you can keep the commandments, Sirach tells us. God has set before you fire and water; to whichever you choose, stretch forth your hand (Sirach 15:15, 16). This is a great mystery: God does not control us so completely that we cannot choose our own path. We have certain boundaries, of course, but no one but we can choose our way within those boundaries. In today s reading from Matthew s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our freedom and our responsibility for our lives. He calls us to look beyond the words of the commandments, all the way to their meaning. Look beyond the adultery to the selfishness that poisons our love. Look beyond the murder to the anger that eats away at our compassion. Look beyond the perjured testimony to the lies and deception that drive our behavior. Our vocation is to choose life for ourselves, and to choose a path through our part of the world that helps make life possible and more abundant for others as well. - Copyright J. S. Revised Contribution Letters for the year 2016 Your 2016 Contribution letters had been sent out at the end of January. Unfortunately, some have incorrect totals as a few of the donation categories were inadvertently omitted. A REVISED 2016 Contribution Letter should have been received by now. The correct letter includes a red-stamped REVISED on it. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Sue Butler at or me at sbutler@sfcabrini.org I will be out of the office from 2/20/17 through 3/19/17. All men in our parish community, especially school parent fathers, are welcome to join their fellow parishioners for prayer, fellowship and updates on church and school projects. ICF BRANCH 191 POLENTA DINNER/DANCE St. Frances Cabrini s Italian Catholic Federation is having its annual polenta dinner/dance Carnevale Di Venezia on March 4, 2017 from 6 to 10:30 PM in Essig Hall. Dinner will be served at 7 PM and will include polenta, chicken cacciatore, salad, rolls, coffee and dessert. There will be a no host bar and a corkage fee of $10. The DJ for the evening is Gino Popolizio. Cost is $30 for adults; $12.50 for children 7-12; children 6 and under are free. The theme was Making Disciples by Word, Worship & Witness and the Confirmandi participated in workshops, icebreaker games, small group discussions, and prayer led by Music & youth minister, Nelson Gonzales. I would like to thank the following helpers whose hard work made it successful: Lisa Koen, Jancy Vincent, Linda Brady, Kerri Green, Donna Krueger, Kathy Oliverio, and high school teen alumni Michael Citrigno, Ary & Montse Gasca, Francesca Meninger, Max Marvin, Fallon Hinz, Monica Gonzales, and teen parishioners, Liam Donnelly, Quan Kok, Julia Hardy, Giovanni Rossi, and Sam Shafer. The day ended with the 5pm Mass in which Nelson joined Jennifer Donnelly s musicians & musical group and played the piano. The Confirmandi and Sponsors processed into church with their pledges they signed together committing to the Confirmation Program. The Presentation of the Confirmandi was accepted by Fr. Paolo on behalf of Fr. Michael. Please pray for and with our Confirmandi as they continue on with the program. The Confirmation Mass will be held on Saturday, April 29th at 11:00am by Very Reverend Msgr. Cilia. Like us on Facebook! h ps:// Village House: An Interfaith Shelter of Hope (SFC Helping Others) St. Frances Cabrini will participate for the second year in providing safe housing and meals for the homeless in Our community spirit and involvement in 2016 touched the lives of those we served and brought many blessings to us all. Your Time, Talent and Compassion with volunteering and donations will be needed to make the 2017 program a success as well. Our St. Frances Cabrini community will be housing fifteen (15) women from March 1 - April 5, Your Time and Talent will be needed to provide meals, laundry service, security, transportation, etc. Please ask your family and SFC groups/organizations how you can best volunteer and reach out to those in need. When our SFC community comes together with their Time, Talent and Treasures, we can make a significant difference in others' lives. Village House - SFC Helping Others 1) We have an Outside Security Morning Shift to be filled 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM (patrol grounds) 2) We are in need of Floor Monitors and Floaters for the first two weeks starting March 1st. Floor Monitors (mornings, evenings and over-nighters) make sure that our guests are settled as they arrive and preparing for their evening in the Parish Center Building. Two monitors are needed each evening. No climbing required/no stairs involved if you can assist on the ground floor. Floaters (morning and evenings) One support Floater is needed each evening to assist where needed and should be prepared to assist in any number of areas during the shift.
