2 Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time November 18, 2018 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. -- Mark 13:31 Village House Shelter at St. Mark s Church and St. Paul s Church needs our help in November and December. The Village House rotating shelter has moved to St. Mark s Episcopal Church effective November 8. St. Mark s in Santa Clara jumped in at the last minute to host the shelter during the month of November. But it s a small congregation and need help from other Village House churches. Some churches decided to commit to overall shelter management on specific days throughout the month. St Frances Cabrini is not assigned specific dates. However, we are reaching out to those who have volunteered in the past and are encouraging them to volunteer. There are many positions throughout the month off November in need of being filled. Volunteers will be needed at St. Paul s throughout December as they are needed at St. Mark s in November. The need for the Village House Shelter is increasing as the weather becomes more of a factor. This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out and help others, especially as the holidays approach. It was another successful year and our guests have either formed a relationship with Christ or renewed their relationship with Him. They have also discovered the wonders of the Holy Spirit. Alpha would not be able to be a success without the help of our Cabrini community. Goodwill Donation Day is December 8 SAVE YOUR UNWANTED TREASURES Once again SFC and Goodwill Silicon Valley will team up to collect your unwanted treasures just in time for the holidays. The Goodwill truck will be here from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on December 8. SFC receives $$$ for every pound of unwanted treasure. So save and donate! FRANCES CABRINI BRANCH 191 LIZ DONALDSON MEMORIAL PARISH LUNCH MINISTRY FUND Liz Donaldson was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish for over 40 years and the Italian Catholic Federation, Branch 191 for 29 years. Liz s passion was helping those in need. For this purpose, Liz coordinated, along with the Parish Staff, The St. Frances Cabrini Parish Lunch Ministry Program. She oversaw the preparation of all lunches which are distributed daily to those in need. We, the members of Branch 191, have established a fund for this purpose in memory of Liz. All donations will be used to continue this special program. Kevin Joyce, a priest in the Diocese of San Jose, received his doctorate in spirituality from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. His specialization is the great spiritual masters of the Christian tradition. ANNUAL DIOCESAN LAYETTE We are collecting infant clothing for the layette gift packs that are given to mom's in need. The layette program needs items and clothing SIZE NEWBORN TO SIX MONTHS only. Items can be dropped off in the layette baskets in the vestibule of the church or dropped off at the parish office attention of Joan Schenck. More information can be found on the Layette Flyer in the vestibule of the church. Please consider giving hand-made items, purchasing new ones, or donating used items in good condition. The Annual Layette Tea is Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2 pm at St Lucy's Parish in Campbell. Please contact Joann Allegretti if you would like to help with collecting and delivering the items to St Lucy's and setting up our A reminder to Religious Ed parents. There will be no classes held on Wednesday, November 21st due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We hope you will all enjoy a wonderful meal and quality time together. Classes resume on Wednesday, November 28th. We are no longer collecting candy for the troops, but we are still collecting "Toiletries for the Troops" until Monday, November 26th. Thank you for all the candy and toiletries already donated, it is very much appreciated. We will be working on the care packages on Saturday, December 8th at the American Legion on Walsh Ave in Santa Clara from 10am to 1pm. If you are in need of service hours please feel free to come join us there. SAVE THE DATES: An important reminder for all School and Religious Ed Confirmandi that there is a Parent & Sponsor meeting for the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, January 24, 2019 in the church. A Confirmation Retreat for only Confirmandi on Saturday, February 9, 2019 in the gym, followed by 5pm Mass for Confirmandi, parents and sponsors. Also, a Confirmation Conference on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Bellarmine College Prep campus. All are required for Confirmation, and more details will be forthcoming. Youth Ministry -Sunday, November 25th there is no youth group. We will resume youth group the following week Sunday, December 2nd. - Youth ministry is looking for donations for our weekly dinners on Sunday nights at youth group. We ask that you plan dinner for approximately 20 people. If you can help out with some dinners, please contact Kurt. - Youth ministry is hosting it s second youth-oriented mass on Sunday, November 25th at the 5:30 pm mass. We need help with Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Singers and Musicians. If you can help out, please let Kurt know. Congratulations to Quan Kok on his nomination for the Saints in the City award. This award is given to one youth from each parish who has carried the torch of discipleship with fearless faith, enduring hope and bountiful charity. Quan has been an altar server since the age of 9 and is now our number one Altar Server at St. Frances Cabrini. He is the assistant trainer for Fr. Michael with the altar servers and has been our Master of Ceremonies for Easter Vigil and other major liturgical celebrations. Every Sunday you can find him playing the piano at the 9:30am Family Mass. Quan is a senior in a Home Schooling High School and was elected Treasurer of its student council.
