2 Receiving Sacraments Out of Order Reflections on the Original Order Diocese of Honolulu Questions? Did you know that children baptized as infants usually receive the sacraments out of sequence, out of order? To be fully initiated as Christians, as followers of Jesus Christ, we receive three sacraments, namely Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation. When Confirmation comes last, perhaps even years after First Communion, we can get the impression that Confirmation is the final sacrament, that Confirmation is what brings us fully into the Body of Christ. This is not true. Our faith tells us that Eucharist, not Confirmation, is the source and summit of our faith. Our faith tells us that First Communion is what completes our initiation into the life of Christ. In 1971, Blessed Pope Paul VI issued the revised Rite of Confirmation saying The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and finally are sustained by the food of eternal life in the Eucharist the faithful, after being signed by holy Baptism and Confirmation, are incorporated fully into the body of Christ by participation in the Eucharist (Apostolic Constitution, Divinae Consortium Naturae, 1971). Over the coming weeks, we ll more fully explore these three sacraments as well as the upcoming changes our diocese is making to establish the original order of the three sacraments of initiation. ST. 3 Church Cleaning Ministry Early birds catch more than worms at Holy Trinity Church each Friday morning. This crew of faithful volunteer cleaners begin each Friday at dawn with a prayer and then with vacuums, dust rags, and brooms in hands scour the church and prepare it for Saturday and Sunday worship. Mahalo to these devout and faithful parishioners who maintain our worship space in a pristine manner. If cleanliness is next to Godliness, they are succeeding. HURRICANE RELIEF Thank you to all who responded so generously to the request for clothing and linens for hurricane ravaged Houston. There was an amazing amount of bags now on their way to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. EXTRA THRIFT SHOP HOURS We will also be open during the Food Fest on Sunday, October 22 from 3 pm 6 pm. Please take advantage of these opportunities to support our Thrift Shop. We also need more volunteers during the regular Thrift Shop hours as well as during Food Fest. Please call the office at if you are able to volunteer. HTCYYA Holy Trinity Youth & Young Adult Ministry Confirmation Meetings have started! We meet every Sunday, 10 a.m. - 10:55 a.m. in our former school's 8th grade classroom. Confirmation is open to students in the 9th - 11th grades who have been BAPTIZED and received their first HOLY COMMUNION. 3

4 ADORATION We will have Adoration this coming Friday, October 6, immediately following the 5 PM. Mass All are invited to spend some time in prayer with the Lord. 5 BAPTISM CLASSES Our last Baptism classes of the year will be coming up soon. The classes will be held October 8 & 15 The classes are from 10:30 am to 12 pm in the Parish Meeting Room. You must attend both classes and have all paperwork turned in by October 2. Please call the office at if you have any questions. Annual Holy Trinity Church Food Festival Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 3pm to 6pm in the Gym 1. Script will was on sale this past weekend and for the next two weeks before and after all masses. They are $1.00 each and tastes will be between $2 and $3 each. Script will also be used for the purchase of raffle tickets. Script can be purchased with cash and/or checks only. 2. Time of Food Fest is from 3-6 pm. Script pick up will be at 3:00 pm and food and drink booths will be open after Father has blessed the booths around 3:30P. Last serving for food will be at 5:30P 3. Donations of Water, Cola (Coke, Pepsi or Root beer), diet Cola and Sprite or 7-up is needed! These can be brought to the church office and/or back of church before the event or to the Gym on the day of the event. These drinks will be available at no cost during the Food Fest. 4. Any crafters can add their items to the Crafters booth. These items can be dropped off at the church office. 5.Donations of baked goods, pickled veggies, chutney, hot chili pepper water, etc are needed. These can be brought to the gym the day of the event. Please label all items and price them appropriately. Also mark any baked goods baked with nuts clearly. 6. We still need Raffle items.big or small.to package into themed gift baskets.please speak with the Volunteers selling script if you have anything to give. This year we have 15 Food booths (Portugese, Italian, German, Irish, Hawaiian, American, Cajun, Oriental (to include Chinese, Japanese and Filipino), a beer and wine booth, Salad and Dessert booth paired with specialty coffee/tea booth) so please buy your script with these wonderful tastes in mind. 5

FAMILY PROMISE Our Family Promise guests will arrive on Sat. Oct. 21 at 1pm and will leave on Sun. Oct. 29 at 8:15am. They are coming to us one day earlier than usual and will be with us for 8 days, rather than 7 days. This will give them time to get settled so they can fully enjoy our Food Fest on Sun. We are expecting between 3-5 families from the Windward Network. We need volunteers to clean the Makai House, prepare and host dinners, do laundry, donate food and supplies. Gift cards to Longs, Safeway, Costco will also be appreciated. 7 Stewardship Corner Stewardship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Lesson 65 What Belongs to God Jesus said repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. (Mk 12:17) So what belongs to God? Everything: all the earth, all creation, even our life. When we give something, we are not really giving anything that is ours; rather we are giving what God has given to us. So when we give, let us give in the spirit of the awareness that we are giving what came first from God. This is stewardship.
