3 HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH Our Easter Story Continues Since Easter Sunday our daily scripture-gospels have given us glimpses, to the reactions, of Jesus' resurrection. First, there was the shock of Jesus' death and then the disbelief that his tomb was empty. His poor followers lives were shattered as well as their faith being rocked to its very roots. On top of that, the Roman soldiers started the believable rumor that his followers stole his body away. To say that things were in a bad way would be an understatement. But these scripture passages tell us the truth of how much his closest friends and disciples felt when he left them. Todays scripture continues the saga of disbelief with the two on the road to Emmaus. Their leaving Jerusalem with broken hearts, sums up how sad they felt. Their hearts were bursting with the feeling that "all seemed lost, all that they had hoped for was gone". Perhaps, Jesus let them remain in disbelief, for awhile, so that they could fully enjoy his resurrected return to them. Isn't that how we feel after perhaps experiencing something tragic or life changing that causes us to despair or lose hope? It's a natural reaction when something we really counted upon happening didn't happen! I don't think that Jesus was doing this to "teach them a lesson". But maybe it was to see if after their denials, betrayals and leaving him behind, if they could handle his return and total forgiveness of their shortcomings. Once again we have a lesson of Gods total love for us. This too is what He wants us to do "in His memory"...to be a forgiving people and forgiving church. The lessons he taught his followers were to continue long after his physical departure, especially to each of us today. A great example of our both being reminded and encouraged to continue this faith-journey was experienced in our celebration of Holy Week and Easter Vigil-Sunday. Each of these days liturgies celebrated and proclaimed Gods love for us in Jesus' passion, death, and resurrection. Our lives and parish community give witness to this when we pick up where his original followers left off. If we find ourselves travelling on a road to Emmaus, away from Jesus and the reality of our faith, then we need to turn around and be recommitted followers of the resurrected Lord. He wants us to travel with him and not away from him...to be close to him and not apart from him...to be filled with a joyful spirit of Alleluia and not downcast, to be encouraged not sad. Yes, we recalled Good Friday but we moved beyond it to Easter Sunday and beyond. Alleluia, from Guam

6 Maintenance Update April 2017 The baptismal font was rehabbed with new paint on the handrail, interior large font and exterior small font. The door to the lower plumbing was also replaced. The main parking lot has a new marking tape pattern to help with staying within the parking lines. This tape is the same tape that is used to temporarily mark roads before the permanent painting is finished. We will monitor the condition of the tape and may replace the tape with paint. The floor in the communal bathroom on the second floor of the Makai House was replaced prior to this weekend family promise week. The floor had holes from termite damage and water damage. The campus was visited on Good Friday by the Honolulu Fire Department. Most of the violations were minor and fixed quickly. We replaced the door exit signs with battery powered lights for power outages as part of the Fire Department visit. A major problem with the operation of the emergency doors in the gym will need to be addressed soon. The doors have warped and may need to be replaced to operate smoothly. The doors need to be secured from the outside but need to open quickly from the inside in case of an emergency. No progress has been made on the PV project. The second phase of the gym louvers will begin in June or July depending on the arrival of the custom louvers from the mainland. The Maintenance Committee started to look at each of the buildings to identify repairs and routine maintenance needs over the next 5 years. A new spreadsheet will detail the projects from FY2018 starting in July until June In addition, we are looking at the routine maintenance needs during a typical year and preparing a realistic budget. These maintenance items are usually below the $8,000 figure individually, but usually much less. They include painting, repairs, plumbing, air conditioner repairs and electrical. He s an acolyte, helps with music ministry and is a regular at the Sunday, 9am Mass and he has Down Syndrome. When Brett has an aide( also known as as Direct Support Worker) he can access his part-time at Easter Seals or community events like Access Surf and Hawaii Adaptive Paddling. Brett and other adults depend on these support individuals. Easter Seals Hawaii hires and trains the direct support workers. If you know someone interested in part-time paid positions to support Brett and others for 8 or more hours a week please see the ad for Easter Seals Hawaii on the back of the bulletin. 7 STEWARDSHIP CORNER STEWARDSHIP AT HOLY TRINITY CHURCH Lesson 44 Our Road to Emmaus Imagine we are on the road, perhaps the Road to Emmaus, and recognize the stranger we meet is Jesus. Well, in a sense, this does happen to us when we hear the Scriptures at Mass. What we hear are not merely works on a page, but words, inspired by God filling His presence in each of us. Cleopas and his friend walked a long way before they recognized Jesus in their presence; sometimes, this happens to us as well. Do we recognize our neighbor, co-worker, family member, or fellow parishioner as Jesus? Oftentimes, not. But when we do, let us listen as if Jesus is speaking to us; put aside distractions and try to listen to His word. Do you hear anything? Maybe not, but the Holy Spirit is with us, just as He was with the disciples on the road, at every step of their journey. Let us do our best to listen and over time, we will recognize His voice.
