3 There is some Good News, and some Bad News. We have all heard stories, or jokes, that begin with this question. Well, in today s Gospel there is only Good News. We hear John the Baptist being questioned by just about everyone about, What should we do? I first found it interesting that we don t know what they are talking about, the gospel just begins with this question. John very easily replies that they should share if they have extra clothes or food, He also instructs them to be fair is dealing with one another. After reading this gospel I scratched my head because I thought that we human beings, let alone Christians, should always be sincerely concerned for one another s welfare. I guess I shouldn t take that for granted! As John continues his preaching ministry, he exhorts the people to repent and hear this Good News. The type of repentance he preached is not about feeling sorry for any wrongs we may have done. It has little to do with feeling guilty and more about responding to the wonderful Kingdom of God that is all around us. Since everything that we have been given is a gift from God, we have a responsibility to share it with those who have needs. We have the responsibility to answer that Gospel question: what should we do? by helping those around us. You did just that by taking those 200 ornaments, from our Angel-Giving Tree, and supplying what might be the only gifts those boys and girls get for Christmas. You touched their lives, made them joyful, and you placed no strings or obligations on your generosity. I believe the real blessing for you is the anonymity you remain faceless and they probably wonder about who gave me this gift? In their wondering they are really making a spiritual connection with you, without their knowing who you are. That s one of the beauties of Gods Kingdom, we are connected through the Holy Spirit and God brings us together in His name. Simple acts of kindness reap a boatload of blessings for both the giver and receiver. Let s continue to partnership with anyone who we can reach out to and touch, even if we don t know them by name or face. Isn t that Good News? This is the Advent message, to do good for the sake of the Kingdom quietly.

4 Stewardship Corner Lesson 129 Stewardship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Race to Perfection If you wish to be perfect... (Matthew 19:21) Last Sunday was Marathon Sunday. Thousands of runners were on the highway. We might find ourselves or someone we know with this same devotion for exercise and good health. Some of us might prefer the driving range to practice before a friendly weekend round. Much time is devoted to these activities without any intention of entering a marathon or an olympic event. Jesus spoke of our spiritual life; of going to our reward in His Heavenly Kingdom. The rich young man, when hearing Jesus words of devotion, walked away, dejected. So we might ask how do we maintain devotion to His words? We need prayer and the sacraments to develop our faith in order to make His words the purpose or goal in our life. In this Season of Advent, let s make an effort to deny ourselves while at the same time focusing on the coming of Christ this Christmas. Let s run a good race with prayer, sacrifice and the practice of Stewardship. Remember our faith journey is not a sprint, rather a marathon. 5 Happy Retirement Nancy Lui-Kwan For the past 17 years we have been blessed to have Nancy as our Parish Business Administrator. Over these years she has faithfully taken care of the financial oversight of the resources given to our church. Her pleasant personality, financial astuteness, and calm demeanor have guided many a Pastor, Finance Committee, as well as many parishioners in need of her talents. With her retirement there will be many adjustments, both in her life and in the life of our parish. We wish her God s blessings and pray that she will reap many enjoyable years of peace and quiet away from the Business Office. She will be missed and hope that she always feels comfortable to return and visit us when in the neighborhood. Congratulations Deacon Steve Kula! Steve graduated Monday, December 10, 2018 from Chaminade University with a Masters Degree in Theology. Steve s dedication to his family, friends, church family and his Ministry are admirable and he is a blessing to us all. We congratulate you Steve on a job well done and we look forward to many more years together here at Holy Trinity. And a special Thank you to Debbie Kula for her continued support.

6 St Rita s Church picked up a literal truckload of groceries to be distributed to those in need on the Waianae Coast. Thank you to the students at Koko Head Elementary School who worked together collecting the groceries and household supplies as part of their Christmas School Project. And thank you to St Rita s for the pick up and delivery. God Bless You All.
