2 HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH Executive Summary of Stewardship Committee Meeting January 10, 2018 The Stewardship Committee meeting was opened with a Prayer by Fr Mike at 7pm. The committee reviewed our recent Adult Faith Formation session on an Introduction to the Bible. Committee Reports: Adult Faith Formation will present a movie night on January 19 with the showing of God is Not Dead. Upcoming Lenten reflections will focus on forgiveness. A presentation on angels (top recommendation from last year s survey) is in the planning. Social activities are planned including Mardi Gras on February 13, after 5pm Mass and burning of the palms to be used for Ash Wednesday. Maintenance committee reported that the photo voltaic is making progress and HECO has begun connection of new meters. Web committee reported a spike in activity centered around Mass times for Christmas, our bulletin and photo gallery. Our App is the second most widely used in the Diocese of Honolulu. Respect Life has placed rosaries at the church entry for anyone wishing to pray the rosary. AV training is ongoing for music and prayers at Mass. Fr Mike and Charlotte recapped the success of our Liturgical Calendar and the credit belonging to Charlotte and Claudia Tang for their graphic assistance. Dennis Lock reviewed the success of our Ministry Weekend. We are still in the process of contacting our new volunteers. Also, a meeting with Fr Mike will be held on January 30 for all Ushers. Charlotte White reported on the East/West Vicariate Stewardship meeting. We are planning on a video presentation in the future. Charlotte also reported that Stewardship Day will be held on Saturday, February 17 at the Co Cathedral from 8am to 2pm. All are welcome to attend. No charge. The committee is planning our soup and bread (no butter) following Stations of the Cross during Friday s of Lent. We also recognized the need for parking assistance for Ash Wednesday. The upcoming Episcopal Visit by Bishop Larry in May was discussed and that we are planning for this visit. New Business will be centered on activities/presentations for senior parishioners. 3 Abandoned nets and, Jesus promises. During my college years a familiar figure that could be seen walking the campus everyday was a retired professor and his wife. No matter what the time of day or weather conditions they could been seen strolling about the walkways. Looking back, it seemed that they were like a figure in some movie that every now and then just walked across the screen but this wasn t a movie, this was life. The striking characteristic, of this couple, was they always were holding one another s hand. I never saw them not holding hands. Each time I saw them I thought of how long they have been together and all that they had probably gone through as a couple. Todays gospel has Jesus calling his future Apostles into His way of life and ministry. Like that elderly couple I wonder if Andrew, Simon, James and John knew what they were in for if they followed this itinerant preacher. Like the beginnings of anything [our lives, work, faith, etc.] we can start out with great promise and ambitions but perhaps get tired, sidetracked or lazy. Our initial emotional, spiritual, and intellectual connections might seem to lessen and perhaps fade away. Todays scriptures show us how those early Apostles started out strong but eventually crashed and burned when Jesus was taken from them. What happened to them could happen to us don t think it can t happen! Our relationship with the Lord is not a onetime experience or commitment. It s not just something that happened and then we take it for granted. It s interesting that Jesus called his followers, two-by-two. Although our call to follow Him is individual we are not called to this journey alone. We are a community of faith and depend on one another. Like that retired couple, who were married for over 70 years, we need to walk hand-in-hand in our commitment to the Lord. First, we need to abandon our nets before we can hold one another s hands in faith. If we do that. then, He will never abandon us. Still trying to abandon some of my nets, 3

When: Tuesday, February 13, 2018 Time: 6:30 pm following 5pm Mass and burning of the palms. Place: Parish Gym Dress: Casual, colorful Mardi Gras chic, red for Valentine s eve or costumes. Come and celebrate with your Parish Ohana Bring a dish to share as it is a potluck (salad, main course or dessert) Since it is Valentine s Day eve, bring your sweetheart, friends, neighbors; even your mother-in-law. Come and enjoy the food, music, prizes and fellowship. Because we are a welcoming Parish, Usher duties are a key in setting the tone for our worship. We are the Ambassadors for our parish who are the first to meet fellow parishioners at every Mass. This meeting is for present Ushers/Collectors and all those interested in becoming Ushers. All interested men, women and youth are welcome and encouraged to attend this meeting CRAFT GROUP We have a Craft Group that meets every Tuesday in the Makai House. They do a lot of crocheting and other crafts and start about 10 am. If you don t know how to crochet they can teach you. Come meet some other parishioners and have fun crafting and talking. Sacrament Preparation 2018 / 2019 Baptism Classes February, April, July and October Classes are the second and third Sundays of the month from 10:30 to noon in the Parish meeting Room. You must attend both classes. If you are interested in the February Baptism classes please have all paperwork turned in by February 5. Please come into the church office to pick up the paperwork for your child and for the Godparent forms. Office hours are 8:30-4:30, Monday Friday and 8:00-12:00 Saturday. 7 Stewardship Corner Stewardship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Lesson 82 The Favor of God You have found favor with God (Luke 1:30) Mary was special because she was chosen to be the Mother of Jesus. We are special too, because by His grace, we have found favor in the Lord and are now His sons and daughters. Let us use His grace to become more like Jesus; let His grace fill our hearts and empower us to become good stewards of one another.
