2 Fresh Palms Needed In anticipation of Palm Sunday (March 25th) we will need donations of Palms that we can use for this joyous feast. As we did last year...we will collect the palms and then ask for volunteers to come and strip and cut the palms for our use. Timeline: Between- Saturday, March 17th and Friday, March 23rd-- Drop Off Palms (Garage area) Saturday, March 24th at 9:00am- Stripping and cutting of Palms (help needed) Parish Council Member: SUE ANN MONIZ Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Sue has been a member of Holy Trinity Church for the past 39 years. Most recently serving as a member of the Parish Council, a Lector a member of the Social Committee, and coordinator of our yearly Angel Giving Tree. Originally from Kapahulu, she attended Sacred Hearts Academy for 13 years, and then on to the University of Hawaii School System. Her career started in the travel industry, however she pursued her entrepreneurial spirit, and opened her own computerized embroidery business. She operated her business for 20 years, and sold it to join her husband in retirement. She is married to her grade-school sweetheart, Jeff, and has one son, Albert, who has recently made them proud grandparents; Lilly Ann is now a new member of the Catholic Church, baptized at Holy Trinity Church. Kay...continues her spiritual journey to the Easter Sacraments. This past Sunday we celebrated the 2nd Scrutiny for Kay Berglund. Kay is in the 'final stretch" with her sights set on the Baptism Font and receiving Confirmation and Eucharist also. Our R.C.I.A. Team is excited as they assist her in the final classes and preparation. Please keep Kay in your prayers, as well as Joyce, Keith, Lily, and Chad...who will receive sacraments also. 2

3 Sir, we wish to see Jesus This one, powerful statement, by these visiting Greeks who came to celebrate the Jewish Passover feast, says many things about them and their request. Do they really just want to see Jesus? Is that all they want? Is there any hidden motive in their request? Scripture scholars tell us that these men represent the world. It s this world, our world, that God loves and saves. These Greek visitors also, in a certain way, want to see Jesus? Just want to be in His presence? Just want to be close to Him? Our faith repeatedly tells us that we should have a relationship with the Lord. Our church constantly informs us that the closer we get to Him, the better off we ll be. Sounds logical doesn t it? Stay close to Jesus and you ll be far from anything not good, not holy, or improper. We should strive to be like these Greek visitors, and ask to see Jesus in our prayers, in our attendance at Mass, and in our encounters with one another. We also should imitate them by not asking for any proof. They didn t want a summary of His ministry nor His preaching. They just want to see Him. Is that all? Is that it? Seems so! They probably just wanted an informal time to chat with Him, maybe share a good meal and some wine, and perhaps let Him listen to their life stories. There must have been something, in them, that stirred up a curiosity that just being in His presence would be a divine moment. That s it they were on to something, thinking that way. And just maybe they wanted to be surprised by what could happen by spending time with Him. As we enter the second half of our Lenten season why not try to spend some time with Jesus. You pick the time and place but just make sure that you can dedicate more then a few minutes with Him. If you aren t sure where to begin borrow the words of the men in todays Gospel with a slight alteration, I want to see you, Jesus. You will not regret doing that and the Lord will be pleased to give you His time. Lenten joy, 3

4 CRS Rice Bowl:Encounter Alefa Chikwawa District in Malawi has battled a long history of food insecurity due to drought, most recently during the 2015 growing season. CRS s Diversification for Nutrition and Enhanced Resilience (DiNER) Fair program offers subsidized agricultural vouchers to beneficiaries to use to purchase drought-resistant seeds. The vendors also benefit by having a place in which to reliably sell their goods. These fairs help beneficiaries gain the ability to plant staple crops in the upcoming agricultural season, as well as encourage improved agricultural practices that build resilience to future shocks. DiNER Fairs target vulnerable families such as Alefa Tom, 68, and her husband Dyson Tom, 77. They are raising 6 young children; three of their own children (Godfrey, 14, Talandila, 12, Chisomo, 11) and three grandchildren (Tamara, 9 and Paul and Guzani, 7 year old twins). Alefa attended the first CRS DiNER Fair in her village and chose to buy two bags of hybrid maize seed, cabbage, rabe, Chinese cabbage and tomato seeds. In 2015, several of Alefa s crops (common beans, sesame and rice) failed due to the drought. She had no peace of mind and was worried about money and food for her family. She had to sell part of her land and bought rice seed with the money. Not as many people grow rice, so she can get more money from selling it. Last year she harvested 36 bags of maize and sold 10, which helped her to send her children to school. The harvest from the seeds she purchased at the DiNER Fair will help with school costs as well. Alefa is a member of the Nkhombedzi Rice Scheme, a group of 50 people who plant on communal land. She has been a member for 15 years, and once selected, you are a member for life. Her friend Modesta Thole, 53, is chairperson of the scheme. RICE BOWL FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT PRAYER For Alefa and her family in Malawi, who we encounter through CRS Rice Bowl, that the seeds she plants today may also sprout hope and grow opportunity. We pray to the Lord For those worldwide who are forced to flee their homes for safety or better opportunities. We pray to the Lord... MEMORIAL MASS FR. Bereavement Ministry: Volunteers Needed Sunday Scripture Sharing The Sunday Scripture Sharing Group will meet on Thursday, March 22 at 7:00 pm upstairs in the RCIA room. We will review the readings for Palm Sunday, which falls on March 25th. All parishioners are welcome, please join us. Questions: Theresa Fowler, One of our important ministries is how we assist parishioners whose family has experienced a death. This is a very special time when comfort is offered by the parish family a, particularly in providing a joyous mass at our church. Currently we have several parishioners who are involved with this ministry, but we need several more to complement their efforts. Please consider joining our Bereavement Ministry. We will provide the necessary training and several things that you should consider are: *most funerals take place on weekday mornings. *this is a ministry where you work as a team. *there is no need to speak in public, you serve as a support to the family at church. *qualifications should include: a desire to faithfully celebrate Resurrection and new life at a Funeral Mass. 7 Stewardship Corner Stewardship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Lesson 90 Love Your Neighbor You shall love your neighbor as yourself (Romans 13:9) Does this apply to the noisy neighbor next door; to the one who took my parking stall? Consider this story: A family once experienced a fire. No one was hurt, but they lost everything. A friend helped them find temporary food, clothing and shelter; then recruited others to assist. Some years later, this same family learned of a similar tragedy and assisted that family as they once had been assisted, since they had learned the ropes. God s love is meant to flow through us to affect others, and this is stewardship.
