Anointing of the Sick-Communal anointing during the First Saturday 9:00am Mass. Please contact the parish office at the onset of serious illness and for individual requests for the sacrament. Baptism (Infant) - Preparation classes offered monthly except July and December. 2 Christ is risen, He is risen indeed! This is the ancient Paschaltide greeting of the Churches of the East, both Orthodox and Catholic. It sums up nicely the joy which explodes upon the earth with the proclamation that death has been vanquished. May this joy be yours this season. Our Lent was a time of preparation and penance. We accompanied Christ through his suffering, and now rejoice with him, and await the good things of heaven. We suffered the loss of two significant members of our parish family during Lent. Many will remember Fr. Ron Funke, SJ. Many years ago, he led a men s group here at St. Philomena, and for the first few years of my pastorate, he said masses very early on Wednesday mornings. He was a kind man, an original thinker, and an effective preacher. May the Lord welcome him home. Adrian Mendiola, who died suddenly a couple weeks ago, was a warm, loyal friend. As I said in the homily at his funeral mass, Adrian was the most unselfconsciously generous man I have ever known. He breathed giving. And he managed all this with cheerfulness and good humor. We commend him to the care of the Blessed Mother whom he loved so much and her Divine Son. These losses are a part of the life of any family, our parish family included. Daniel Henry Mueggenborg, a priest of the Diocese of Tulsa, as Auxiliary Bishop of Seattle. Bishop-elect Mueggenborg will be ordained to the episcopacy on Wednesday, May 31, at 2:00pm in St. James Cathedral. We look forward to welcoming his family and friends to the celebration. Religious Education/Faith Formation Happy Easter to all of you from the Religious Education Office!! St. Philomena is proud to offer an outstanding religious education program for students in grades 1 through 8, including a comprehensive two year sacramental prep program. We use the Alive in Christ/Vivos en Christo bilingual program from Our Sunday Visitor. We have a staff of qualified catechists and volunteers in every classroom. We boast an enrollment of over 200 students in a fun and faith filled, family friendly environment. Please come and check us out every Monday night from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. There will be no Religious Education Class (April 17) this week. Enjoy your week off and practice your prayers. There will be First Communion practice for the English First Communion Mass on Monday night, April 17 at 6:30 to 7:45 pm in the church. Parents are invited to stay to help and have a Q & A afterwards. April 24th will be our Root Beer Float party hosted by Mr. Mark and Mr. Jose in the covered play area after religion class. This is only for the students who learned their first year prayers. You will receive your coupon in class. This is a student only event. Sorry, no siblings or parents. Remember to take advantage of the early registration discount for the second year/sacraments registration. The cost is $70.00 between now and May 8th. Payment is due at the time of registration. Registrations for all other students will be open May 9th. Beginning on May 2nd, for four weeks, the Religious Education office will he hosting a 4 part series about updating your faith. Our topics will include: the Bible, the Sacraments, the Mass and an evening discussion with Fr. Steve. This is open to everyone, Catholics or other denominations, baptized or unbaptized. All are welcome and please bring a friend. We will be meeting in the Upper Conference each Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 pm. Call the office to register. PRE-BAPTISM CLASSES Holy Mother Church strongly encourages parents to have their babies baptized within the first few weeks of life. The baptism preparation classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the parish office. The next classes for May will be on the 11th and 18th. Parents and godparents are required to attend. Youth Group meets about twice a month form 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoons. There is no cost and it is a great way for the youth in our parish to learn more about their faith, have some fun and help others. Why not give it a try!
