4 Spring has Sprung according to the catechists at St. Philomena Religious Education Program! The beautiful weather has made the students very chatty and can't sit still. I sure like that better than snow boots and umbrellas. April is fast approaching and that means First Communion is on the horizon. First we have to finish Lent and that means attending the Stations of the Cross, confession and the Holy Thursday and Good Friday services. The Religious Education Program is proud to present 11 students for Initiation into the Catholic Church this Easter Vigil. God is good, all the time! I will have a parent meeting for those students who will be receiving First Communion on Saturday, April 27th. We will meet in the Church promptly at 6:30. This is a required meeting so you know what to do and bring to Mass on that day. Miss Colleen's 6th grade class will meet this Monday evening in the flower garden to the north of the school to gather to begin their tour of the Church. The last day for second year students to register for next year is Monday, April 1st. We then will open the registration for everyone. In order to staff the program for next year, we rely on the Holy Spirit to touch the hearts of the faithful to answer yes to a one year commitment to share the love of the faith. With the generosity of Dr. Morissette, the time you put into the program will go towards your volunteer hours. Please call the office to volunteer. Knights of Columbus Corner Knight s Meetings: Tuesday March 26th. () Tuesday April 9th. () Thank you to the March 11th. 29 registered Donors! Next blood drive: June 3rd. Our catechumens and candidates are in deep prayer and reflection as they anxiously await their invitation to join the Eucharistic Banquet. You will see these sojourners at the 10:30am Mass as we perform the scrutinies. This is an opportunity for you to get to know them and pray for them. We had a new person, Craig, join us last week and he said that he will be back. It is never too late to join our class. We will continue for one more week on the subject of the Eucharist. Come and See!! Pre-Baptism Classes English Baptism classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the Parish Office. Both English classes must be attended. Next classes: April 10th, 17th (English, 2 parts) Abril 6th. (Español, 1 parte) Parents and godparents are required to attend. Forty Days Spring March for Life 2019 Knowing that, With God all things are possible, people of faith and conscience unite for Forty Days of prayer, fasting and peaceful walks for LIFE. Please join parishioners from St. Philomena parish and other churches as we Walk for Life at the Federal Way Planned Parenthood facility on Tuesdays beginning March 12 th through April 9 th. Your prayerful presence for a one or two hour block of time each week between 9am and 3pm is a visible sign or our belief that God is the author of all life. The location of the Planned Parenthood Facility in Federal Way on S. 348th. St. just west of Pacific Hwy South on the south side of the street. We park in the Park and Ride just west of the facility. Gather to pray for those considering abortion. We also support the belief that all life is precious from conception to natural death. Please joint us on March 12th, 19th, 26th, April 2nd and 9 th rain or shine. Join the men only... 5 Registration for the school year is now open!! St. Philomena School offers a solid Catholic education from PreK (4 years old by Aug. 31 st ) through 8 th grade. During Lent the St. Philomena School students attend Stations of the Cross on Fridays. Here are the dates: Fri., April 12 th - 2:15-5 th grade leading, Fri., April 19 th - (Good Friday) - 10:45 AM- 8 th grade leading Please join us for our Lenten Rosary on Fri., March 29 th at 2:15 PM- led by the 3 rd and 6 th grade The Family Night Auction on Saturday, March 31st, which will be held in the parish hall from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. There will be games for the kids including head or tails and a raffle There will be silent table items for both adults and kids. There will be desserts available to purchase, an ice cream sundae bar and the kitchen will be serving hot dogs, chili dogs, chips and pop!! There is no cost to attend, bring your family and friends for an evening of great fun. This year we'll be adding a magic show for the kids!! The Splash Live Gala Auction is Saturday, April 6th at Emerald Downs in Auburn; the doors will open at 5:30 PM. Tickets are $75.00 per person for the Live Gala. Reservations for Splash can be done at stphil.auctionreg.org/registration Kennedy Catholic is excited to announce their annual community Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 12 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM! They wanted to extend the invitation to members of our school and parish community to join them. The event will start in the cafeteria, with snacks, games and more, and the Egg Hunt will begin promptly at 3:30pm. Baskets are provided. St. Philomena Parish Youth Ministry Dr. Steve Morissette- Youth Minister For all students in 6 th -9 th grade The St. Philomena Parish Youth Group is an opportunity for students in 6 th through 9 th grade to get together on a Sunday afternoon. The mission of our Youth Group is to provide the students with various events and activities that strengthen and deepen their relationship with God and with their peers. There is also an emphasis on service and the commitment to help others. We meet usually twice a month on Sundays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Youth Group is for any St. Philomena Parish student in 6 th through 9 th grade. There is Youth Group this Sunday, March 24th from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. We are going bowling at Hiline Lanes in Burien. The address is Ambaum Blvd SW. The cost is $10.00, this includes 2 games of bowling and shoes. Please drop off and pick up your child at the bowling alley. Future Dates: April 7 th, April 14 th (greeters at Mass and hosting coffee & donuts) May 5 th, Sat., May 11 th (sponsoring parish Grounds Clean-up), May 19 th (last one) Weekly Collection Recap Our budget is based on an expectation of $839, in collection donations for the fiscal year (July 18-June 19).
