2 Nov. 26, 2017 Confirmation Parents, I sent home the off-site retreat permission slip (January 12-14, 2018) along with a letter explaining what is expected of your candidate, location and times etc. This retreat is MANDATORY in order for your child to receive the sacrament. Next class: December 3, Confirmation Service Project 2:30pm in the. Upcoming classes: January 7, 2018 and January 21, The Outreach Program is collecting new and warm clothing items and food for the following programs: St. Martin de Porres Shelter for Men is in need of new hats, warm gloves and scarves, and light-weight fleece blankets. St. Martin de Porres is also in need of donations of new bath towels. Pregnancy Aid provides for our local families in need. They are in need of new winter coats, pajamas, toys, children s books, and especially diapers. They are open 10:00am 1:00pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. If you can help, please call Jo at or visit the office at 730 S 225th St in Des Moines. Des Moines Food Bank: Donations of non-perishable food items are greatly needed this season at the Des Moines Food Bank. The Food Bank is located at the Des Moines United Methodist Church on 223rd Ave S & 9th Ave S. 4 Nov. 26, 2017 Monday night this week is the final rehearsal and the celebration of the Sacrament will be on Friday evening, December 1, beginning at 7:00 pm. Please arrive by 6:45 pm for final practice. If you arrive after the Gospel, you will have to schedule a private appointment with Father Woodland to make your First Confession. Page 4 We will be discussing the Season of Advent and how we can prepare our hearts and homes for the arrival of the Baby Jesus. If you feel the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit, maybe He is telling you about the wonderful gift Jesus has for you. Come and find out. In the classrooms we will begin to discuss Advent and Our Lady of Guadalupe. Our final class is December 4th due to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Feast Day. If your student attends the Rosary on Monday, December 11, see Miss Isabel or one of the teachers for a special Holy Card. In The Legion of Mary, we accompany the Good Shepherd as he searches for the one that is lost, and speaks to those who have not heard. Contact Delores Rybacki at for information. PRE-BAPTISM CLASSES Holy Mother Church strongly encourages parents to have their babies baptized within the first few weeks of life. The baptism preparation classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the Parish Office. Next classes: January 10th (English) Diciembre 2 (Español) Parents and godparents are required to attend.

5 Please join us for our annual Band & Choir Concert at 7:00 PM on Thursday, Nov. 30th in the Parish. The Advanced Band under the direction of Miss McKamey will be performing. The Middle School Choir and the Children's' Choir under the direction of Miss Hunt will be singing. Please join us for this wonderful event! Want to help out those in need during the upcoming holidays? Why not consider taking part of SC with Heart? Many families in the St. Philomena School and Parish are struggling to make ends meet. As hard as it is for some of us to imagine, we have families who receive food stamps, use the Food Bank as a source for feeding their families and live in subsidized housing. You can bring hope to these families and make a difference in their lives, by giving to SC with HEART. When you are buying SC, please consider buying an extra gift card for groceries or gas that will be distributed to these families anonymously. All purchases go into the SC with HEART account and are distributed equally to those families in need. Please have a HEART!! Nov. 26, 2017 Page 5 St. Philomena Parish Youth Ministry Dr. Steve Morissette- Youth Minister For all students in 6 th -9 th grade The St. Philomena Parish Youth Group is an opportunity for students in 6 th through 9 th grade to get together on a Sunday afternoon. The mission of our Youth Group is to provide the students with various events and activities that strengthen and deepen their relationship with God and with their peers. There is also an emphasis on service and the commitment to help others. We meet usually twice a month on Sundays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Youth Group is for any St. Philomena Parish student in 6 th through 9 th grade. Please join us on Sun., Nov. 26 th for Youth Group at 3:00 PM in the parish hall! We will be putting together the ornament tags, boxes and tree for the Giving Tree project.
