On that weekend, you will find SVdP donation envelopes in your pew. We humbly ask you to please look into your hearts and fill the envelopes with a generous donation to help support your needy neighbors right here in our St. Philomena community. 100% of your donation will be used to provide rent, utilities, and food help to the needy who live within our parish boundaries. Our area has one of the highest poverty levels in the state, and those numbers are growing every day! Do you wonder why Catholics do the things they do? What about the rosary? Sacraments? Traditions and postures? Saints? It is hard to believe that July is half way over. School supplies are in the stores and the Religious Education office is humming. We are still looking for three teachers: a second, third and fourth grade teacher. We have the lesson plans, supplies and support for you. Please call the office for more details. Miss Sophia Morella is our craft lady and she is looking for some helpers. Miss Mika Van de Ven is moving from seventh grade to head our Prayer Team and extra help with sacrament preparation. We provide a safe environment to share, grow and learn about the love that God our Father has for us, that Jesus, His Son died for our salvation and sent us the Holy Spirit to always be our guide and protector. Come and see, learn and live. Call the office for more details. We meet on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm in the Upper Conference room. Jesus tells us that we must have a faith like a small child to enter heaven. Please help us bring our parish children closer to Jesus. There is no experience necessary, just a heart full of love. If you have already spoken to me about being a teacher, aide or helper, please come by the office during business hours and pick up your supplies. Our next teacher meeting is Monday, July 24, at 6:30 pm in the parish hall. Please call the office and let us know if you are coming. All of the First Communion pictures and certificates are ready. Come by the parish office and pick them up please!!! Remember, spaces are filling up fast for the Religious Education year. Please register your students now!! Come in anytime during office hours, and remember that we are open until 7:00 pm on Wednesday evenings just for registrations. Divine Mercy Chaplet All are welcome every Monday at 6pm in the Adoration Chapel to join in meditations, prayers, and the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Legion of Mary Keep Easter in your heart all year long. Check out the Legion of Mary. We provide spiritual formation and training in evangelization and Catholic home visitations. PRE-BAPTISM CLASSES Holy Mother Church strongly encourages parents to have their babies baptized within the first few weeks of life. The baptism preparation classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the parish office. The next classes for August will be on the 9th and 16th. Parents and godparents are required to attend.

5 Registration for the School year is now open! St. Philomena School serves students in PreK through 8 th grade. Check out our school s website or call the school office to schedule a tour! Come and check out who we are, you won t be disappointed!! SCRIP sales are going on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM and Friday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the school. All parents, especially new parents, need to make sure they have taken the Safe Environment class called Protecting God's Children for Adults if you want to volunteer at school or attend any field trips. Deacon Jerry will be offering a class on Tuesday, Sept. 12th at 6:30 PM in the parish hall. You need to register through the Archdiocese of Seattle at There are other places that offer the class which you can take during the summer, just check the Virtus website. If you are a current parent and have already taken the class you do not need to repeat the class, just stay current with your obligations via the Virtus website. Are you looking for an inclusive and FREE way to exercise? Every Tuesday at 12 noon at the City of Des Moines playfield, a local group of soccer enthusiasts gathers to kick around the ball. The organizers all are over 70 years old and have been playing soccer together for the past 40 years. Come participate in an hour of fun! Kick the ball around, or play a match! All are welcome, regardless of age or skill.
