The Outreach Program will be collecting gently used and warm clothing items and food for the following programs: St. Martin de Porres Shelter for Men is in need of new socks, hats, warm gloves and scarves, and light weight fleece blankets. St. Martin de Porres Shelter is also in need of donations of new bath towels. There will be a box at the main entrance to the church to place your donations. Friday, December 21st No Scheduled Events Saturday, December 22nd 5:30PM Simbang Gabi Mass {reception following} Pre-Baptism Classes English Baptism classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the Parish Office. Both English classes must be attended. Next classes: No December Class in English January 9th. and 16th. (English, 2 parts) No Enero Clase Parents and godparents are required to attend. Divine Mercy Chaplet Des Moines Food Bank: Donations of non-perishable food items are greatly needed this season at the Des Moines Food Bank. The Food Bank is located at the Des Moines United Methodist Church on 9th Avenue South and 223rd Avenue South. All are welcome, every Monday at 6pm in the Adoration Chapel to join in meditations, prayers, and the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. There will be boxes labeled for the particular program inside the main entrance to place these items. Have Our Lady visit your home for a visit of three to seven days by scheduling an appointment. To make arrangements call any of the following: Eucharistic Adoration Would you spend just one hour with Me? Our Adoration Chapel is open 24 hours a day for quiet reflection, prayer, sacred reading and recitation of the rosary. Please visit our Lord and give praise to Him. Our thanks for the sacrifices made by those who keep our Lord company during the middle of the night so that perpetual adoration may be a reality. Remember to log your name in our visitor book! 4 The Religious Education classes are done until January 7th, Sra. Isabel and I wish you a very holy Christmas. Just because you are on Christmas break, you still need to work on your prayers. If this is your first year, you must learn 6 prayers. If this is your 2nd year or more, you must learn 10 additional prayers and/or facts from the booklet you received at the first of the year. Each student who completes this assignment will earn a glow-in-the dark rosary. These prayers need to be new prayers, not prayers that they already know. Class resumes on January 7th and we will learn about those three kings. Felis Pasgua yan Año Nuebo We are on a break until January 8th when we will talk about the Epiphany. The birth of Christ is the beginning of our salvation story. Christ born as a human, bears our sins and shortcomings as He becomes our Redeemer. At your Christmas gatherings keep your eyes and ears out for someone who expresses a desire to deepen their faith, learn more about the Catholic Church or a desire to become Catholic. Invite them to class with you. It is never too late to join in the fun and discussion. If I haven't received your birth/baptismal certificate, Christmas is the perfect time to do it. Thank you to everyone who help support the Birthday party for baby Jesus and donated many items for Pregnancy Aid, we truly appreciate your help!! Please remember to buy SC as you start your holiday shopping!! We have Scrip gift cards for all major stores and gift cards for grocery stores for your holiday cooking and baking!! We will be selling SC at the Santa Breakfast on Sun., Dec. 16 th and on Wednesday, Dec. 19 th from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Want to help out those in need during the upcoming holidays? Why not consider taking part in SC with Heart? Many families in the St. Philomena School and Parish are struggling to make ends meet. As hard as it is for some of us to imagine, we have families who receive food stamps, use the Food Bank as a source for feeding their families and live in subsidized housing. You can bring hope to these families and make a difference in their lives, by giving to SC with HEART. When you are buying SC, please consider buying an extra gift card for groceries or gas that will be distributed to these families anonymously. All purchases go into the SC with HEART account and are distributed equally to those families in need. Please have a HEART!! Please join us for our January Prayer Service at on Friday, Jan. 4th at 2:05 PM, we will be recognizing first trimester SLE awards and honor roll along with January birthdays. Our theme is revelation and the Epiphany and it will be led by the 6th grade. St. Philomena Parish Youth Ministry Dr. Steve Morissette- Youth Minister For all students in 6 th -9 th grade The St. Philomena Parish Youth Group is an opportunity for students in 6 th through 9 th grade to get together on a Sunday afternoon. The mission of our Youth Group is to provide the students with various events and activities that strengthen and deepen their relationship with God and with their peers. There is also an emphasis on service and the commitment to help others. We meet usually twice a month on Sundays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Youth Group is for any St. Philomena Parish student in 6 th through 9 th grade. Our next Youth Group session is this Sunday, Dec.16 th. The Youth Group will be greeters at the 8:30 AM & 10:30 AM Masses and helping at the Knights Santa Breakfast. We hope you can join us!!
