4 Lots of prizes were given out last Monday night. I will have to order more! Remember to check in with your teachers so you can earn a prayer animal. First Year Prayers include: Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Grace Before Meals and the Act of Contrition. This week all classes will be discussing Ash Wednesday, Lent and how to be more like Jesus during this special time. Please continue to take your children to Mass and as many Lenten services as you can. I ask my students each week and out of 22, 5 go regularly. It is hard to teach about the Mass if they don t experience it! All Life is Precious! Participate in 40 DAYS FOR LIFE Once again parishioners of St. Philomena Parish are being asked to be visible sign that all Life is precious from conception to natural death. We accomplish this by making our presence known at the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Federal Way for five (5) consecutive Tuesdays beginning 20 th of February from 9am until 3pm. We do this as a visible sign of our love and support for LIFE. During the two hour time commitments we walk and pray for changes of heart and to offer prayers for individuals who have made decisions against life. We are schedule is for 5 Tuesdays: February 20, 27, March 6, 13 and 20th. We ask for a 2 hour commitment, if possible each of the 5 weeks, with groups of at least 2 people for each time slot. Sign-up sheets can be found on the bulletin board outside the main entrance of the Church, or you can stop by or call the office to place your name on the schedule. Please walk in witness of our God who created us all in His image and likeness. Signs and booklets will be provided at the site or you can check with me for materials. Let us show by our visible presence that we are committed to LIFE. Shalom, Deacon Jerry. The next few weeks we will be discussing Lent and spending time discussing the Mass. We will be watching a DVD series call "Altaration, The Mystery of the Mass Revealed". All are welcome any time to join us for this discussion. Now is the perfect time to join Women's Bible Study! We are using a new program called Wisdom: God's Vision for Life by Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith. The program is each Thursday at 7pm in the Parish Office Upper Conference Room. The 8-week program runs through Lent. The cost of materials is $20. If you have any questions please call Yolanda ( ) or Joan ( ). We look forward to seeing you! Legion of Mary Become a child of Mary. Battle the empire of unbelief with humble soldiering on behalf of Jesus and Mary. The Legion of Mary consoles the sick and afflicted, witnesses on doorsteps and accompanies the Woman as she crushes the head of the serpent (all resistance to God). Try us for a week or Month! Contact Delores Rybacki at for more information. Pre-Baptism Classes Holy Mother Church strongly encourages parents to have their babies baptized within the first few weeks of life. The baptism preparation classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the Parish Office. February English Classes 3rd and 4th Wednesday Next classes: February 21st and 28th (English) Marzo 3 (Español) Parents and godparents are required to attend.

5 Registration for the school year. St. Philomena School offers a 4 year old prekindergarten program (child must be 4 by Aug. 31 st, 2018), a 5 year old kindergarten program (child must be 5 by Aug. 31 st, 2018) and 1 st through 8 th grades. We offer Catholic faith experiences; a strong moral, academic, and challenging curriculum, including specialist classes (music, PE, technology, library); a safe and nurturing environment; before & after school care (6:30 AM-6:00 PM); an extensive after school club program and the latest technology. Come and check us out!! During Catholic Schools Week, St. Philomena School had our 7 th annual Penny Drive. We collected $3,262.00!! Over the past seven years the Penny Drive has brought in $22,436 which has been donated to various charities, helped out with school and parish projects and helped out with the parish debt reduction. Congratulations to the 8 th grade, they are this year s winning class!! The 7th Annual Spaghetti Scholarship Dinner is Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 6:00 PM. The event will be held at the parish hall. Tickets are $35.00 per couple and $20 per person which includes homemade spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, and dessert. Wine and beer will be available by donation. Water and coffee are complimentary. There will be games before dinner. After dinner dance the night away with music provided. This evening is for those 21 years and older. Proceeds from this dinner benefit the St. Philomena School Marilyn Byers Alumni Fund, which helps alumni families attend St. Philomena School. The Gloria Strauss Fund which helps families in financial stress and the Robert Ruth Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a student athlete. Come enjoy this wonderful evening as we continue to celebrate St. Philomena School. SPLASH reservations are now open! Please get your reservations in for the school s largest fundraiser! The SPLASH Auction is Saturday, March 17th, 2018 at Emerald Downs in Auburn. You can register online at St. Philomena Parish Youth Ministry Dr. Steve Morissette- Youth Minister For all students in 6 th -9 th grade The St. Philomena Parish Youth Group is an opportunity for students in 6 th through 9 th grade to get together on a Sunday afternoon. The mission of our Youth Group is to provide the students with various events and activities that strengthen and deepen their relationship with God and with their peers. There is also an emphasis on service and the commitment to help others. We meet usually twice a month on Sundays from 3:00PM to 5:00PM. Youth Group is for any St. Philomena Parish student in 6 th through 9 th grade. Our next Youth Group is this Sunday, February 11 th at 3:00 PM. We are bowling at the Hiline Lanes in Burien: Ambaum Blvd SW, Burien, WA Youth Group will pay for 2 games of bowling and shoes for each youth, however, they need to bring money if they want to purchase food or drinks. Please meet us at the bowling alley at 3:00 PM, and pick your child up by 5:00 PM.
