2 From the Desk of Kara Montplaisir Confirmation This Sunday, will be our last class. The off-site retreat is next weekend, January 18 January 20. The busses will be leaving St Philomena at 5:00pm sharp. Please make sure you have a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, warm clothes and shoes as well as all their Confirmation books. A small snack to share with cabin mates would be nice also. I ask each parent to speak to their child about cell phones and maybe leaving them at home. There is very little cell service available. I will take away any cell phone I see during the weekend and return them Sunday when we returned to the parish. The busses should be back by 2pm. Parents, Godparents and Sponsors are welcome to come up to the retreat facility on Saturday afternoon for mass and dinner. Just RSVP to me so I can include you in the dinner count. 4 We sure missed everyone over the Christmas holidays and then the power went out. Even though the power did come on before class was to start, the building was terribly cold. Remember, if you student's school is not in session or the weather is very bad, we will not have class. If you want to make sure, call the office, If there is no answer, classes are cancelled. Classes will resume tomorrow night. Try to arrive as close to 6:30 pm as possible as not to stand out in the cold. We do not open the doors until 6:20 pm to allows our catechists to be able to get their classrooms ready for the students arrival. Because of the blood drive held in the parish hall, there will not be any parent classes. Due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday we will not be having class on January 21st but will be back on January 28th. Keep working on your prayers and we will continue to work in our religion books during class. We continue to meet regularly on Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm in the main conference room. This week we will be discussing the Four Marks of the Church and cover the Hierarchy of the Church. There is always room for more at the Lord's table and we would love it if you would join us. Pre-Baptism Classes English Baptism classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the Parish Office. Both English classes must be attended. Next classes: February 13th. and 20th. (English, 2 parts) Febrero 2nd. (Español, 1 parte) Parents and godparents are required to attend. Our Lady of the Rosary Pilgrimage & Chaplet of Divine Mercy Have Our Lady visit your home for a visit of three to seven days by scheduling an appointment. Do you enjoy TV s Family Feud? Well, here is our very own version St. Phil s Pheud! On Saturday, Feb. 23rd, in the parish hall, we will kick off an evening of fun, laughter, friends, and good food. All proceeds go towards our scholarship funds - the Gloria Strauss Scholarship, the Robert Ruth Scholarship, and the Marilyn Byers Alumni Scholarship. The price to attend is $20 per person. The dinner will consist of homemade lasagna, caesar salad, and garlic bread. Beer and wine will be available. Dancing afterwards. This is an ADULT ONLY evening. Put together a team of 5 members. Your team can be made up of family members and/or friends. The entry phee is $150 for the team, which includes dinner. Since the number of teams will be limited, we will do a lottery to decide upon the teams. Don t wait too long! Several teams are being put together already. Don t want to miss any of the action? The VIP table is the perfect solution for you! You can get the premier table up front. It includes 10 seats, a 6 course dinner which includes a special appetizer from the chef, specialty drinks, reserved parking, and your own personal waitperson to take care of all of your needs. St. Philomena Parish Youth Ministry Dr. Steve Morissette- Youth Minister For all students in 6 th -9 th grade The St. Philomena Parish Youth Group is an opportunity for students in 6 th through 9 th grade to get together on a Sunday afternoon. The mission of our Youth Group is to provide the students with various events and activities that strengthen and deepen their relationship with God and with their peers. There is also an emphasis on service and the commitment to help others. We meet usually twice a month on Sundays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Youth Group is for any St. Philomena Parish student in 6 th through 9 th grade. Our next Youth Group session is this Sunday, Jan. 20 th. Future Dates: Feb. 10 th and Feb. 24 th March 10 th and March 24 th April 7 th, April 14 th (greeters at Mass and hosting coffee & donuts) May 5 th, Sat., May 11 th (sponsoring parish Grounds Clean-up), May 19 th (last one) Weekly Collection Recap Our budget is based on an expectation of $839, in collection donations for the fiscal year (July 18-June 19).
