4 No class next Monday, Feb. 19th! Please continue to take your children to Mass and as many Lenten services as you can. I ask my students each week and out of 22 of them, only 5 attend Mass regularly. Remember: a crucial element of learning what it means to be Catholic includes attending Mass. Be sure to practice memorizing your prayers! First Year Prayers include: Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Grace Before Meals and the Act of Contrition. It is hard to teach about the Mass if they don t experience it! All Life is Precious! Participate in 40 DAYS FOR LIFE Once again parishioners of St. Philomena Parish are being asked to be visible sign that all Life is precious from conception to natural death. We accomplish this by making our presence known at the Planned Parenthood Clinic in Federal Way for five (5) consecutive Tuesdays beginning 20 th of February from 9am until 3pm. We do this as a visible sign of our love and support for LIFE. During the two hour time commitments we walk and pray for changes of heart and to offer prayers for individuals who have made decisions against life. The schedule is for 5 Tuesdays: February 20, 27, March 6, 13 and 20th. We ask for a 2 hour commitment, if possible each of the 5 weeks, with groups of at least 2 people for each time slot. Sign-up sheets can be found on the bulletin board outside the main entrance of the Church, or you can stop by or call the office to place your name on the schedule. Please walk in witness of our God who created us all in His image and likeness. Signs and booklets will be provided at the site or you can check with me for materials. Let us show by our visible presence that we are committed to LIFE. Shalom, Deacon Jerry. The next few weeks we will be discussing Lent and spending time discussing the Mass. We will be watching a DVD series called Altaration, the Mystery of the Mass Revealed. All are welcome any time to join us for this discussion. Now is the perfect time to join Women's Bible Study! We are using a new program called Wisdom: God's Vision for Life by Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith. The program is each Thursday at 7pm in the Parish Office Upper Conference Room. Contact Delores Rybacki at for more information. Pre-Baptism Classes Holy Mother Church strongly encourages parents to have their babies baptized within the first few weeks of life. The baptism preparation classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the Parish Office. February English Classes 3rd and 4th Wednesday Next classes: February 21st and 28th (English) Marzo 3 (Español) Parents and godparents are required to attend.

5 Registration for the school year is now open! St. Philomena School offers a 4 year old prekindergarten program (child must be 4 by Aug. 31st, 2018), a 5 year old kindergarten program (child must be 5 by Aug. 31st, 2018) and 1st through 8th grades. We offer Catholic faith experiences; a strong moral, academic, and challenging curriculum, including specialist classes (music, PE, technology, library); a safe and nurturing environment; before & after school care (6:30 AM-6:00 PM); an extensive after school club program and the latest technology. Come and check us out!! We are having an Open House on Thursday, Feb. 22nd from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. During Lent the St. Philomena School students attend various events: Stations of the Cross: March 2nd - 2:05 PM- 6th grade leading March 9th- 2:15 PM- 5th grade leading March 30th (Good Friday)-10:45 AM 8th grade leading Our March Prayer Service is Friday, March 2nd, hosted by the 5th grade. Our Lenten Rosary is Friday, March 23rd at 2:15 PM, hosted by 3rd & 6th grades. Please join us for our weekly school Masses during Lent on Friday Feb. 23rd, March 9th, and March 23rd; all Masses start at 8:45 AM. Please join us for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Fri., March 2nd at 8:45 AM, led by 6th grade. The 7th Annual Spaghetti Scholarship Dinner is Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 6:00 PM. The event will be held at the parish hall. Tickets are $35.00 per couple and $20 per person which includes homemade spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, and dessert. Wine and beer will be available by donation. Water and coffee are complimentary. There will be games before dinner. After dinner dance the night away with music provided. This evening is for those 21 years and older. Proceeds from this dinner benefit the St. Philomena School Marilyn Byers Alumni Fund, which helps alumni families attend St. Philomena School. The Gloria Strauss Fund which helps families in financial stress and the Robert Ruth Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a student athlete. You can register online at: St. Philomena Parish Youth Ministry Dr. Steve Morissette- Youth Minister For all students in 6 th -9 th grade The St. Philomena Parish Youth Group is an opportunity for students in 6 th through 9 th grade to get together on a Sunday afternoon. The mission of our Youth Group is to provide the students with various events and activities that strengthen and deepen their relationship with God and with their peers. There is also an emphasis on service and the commitment to help others. We meet usually twice a month on Sundays from 3:00PM to 5:00PM. Youth Group is for any St. Philomena Parish student in 6 th through 9 th grade. We had 28 students attend our bowling outing on Sunday, Feb. 11 th, everyone had a wonderful time!
