Sacraments Confessions - English - Most Saturdays, after the 9:00am Mass, 4:00pm to 5:00pm, or by appointment. Confessions - Spanish - Wednesday 6:00pm to 7:00pm, Sunday 12:00 noon-1:00pm. Anointing of the Sick-Communal anointing during the First Saturday 9:00am Mass. Please contact the parish office at the onset of serious illness and for individual requests for the sacrament. Baptism (Infant) - Preparation classes offered monthly except July and December. 2 THINK WARM ITEMS Alert! The Outreach Program will be collecting new, warm clothing items and food for the following programs: St. Martin de Porres Shelter for Men is in need of new hats, warm gloves and scarves, and light weight fleece blankets. St. Martin de Porres Shelter is also in need of donations of new bath towels. There will be a box at the main entrance to the church to place your donations. Pregnancy Aid provides for our local needy families. We are in need of new winter coats, pajamas, toys, children s books, and especially diapers. We are open from 10:00am to 1:00pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. If you can help, please call Jo at or visit our office at 730 S. 225th St. in Des Moines. Des Moines Food Bank: Donations of non-perishable food items are greatly needed this season at the Des Moines Food Bank. The Food Bank is located at the Des Moines United Methodist Church on 9th Avenue South and 223rd Avenue South. Our Lady of the Rosary Pilgrimage & Chaplet of Divine Mercy We have several new CDs, especially for the Advent and Christmas season, so stop by our display and see what s new! Divine Mercy and Holy Hour Come and join us every Tuesday evening 6:00 pm in the Church for meditation, scripture and recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Everyone is invited to attend. 5 During this Advent season we have many activities and events that are occurring. We have Mass on Monday, December 12th, Our Lady of Guadalupe hosted by 8th grade and Friday, Dec. 16th hosted by the faculty and the pre- Kindergarten who will present the Nativity play. All Masses are at 8:45 AM. Students in 3rd through 8th grade will be have the opportunity to receive penance from Father Woodland during classroom penance services. We would like to invite you to a very special event. Please join us on Thursday, December 14 at 7:00 PM for our annual Kindergarten through 4 th Grade Christmas program. The program is held in the church. This is a wonderful way to celebrate the Advent season. We are still collecting baby items for Pregnancy Aid. Pregnancy Aid is a service agency located right here in our Des Moines community. Their mission is to help pregnant women or young mothers. We are working together as a school to help them during this Advent season. The drive stared December 7th and runs through Dec. 13th. We are asking the parishioners to help out. This is a great way to extend the true meaning of Advent to those in need. Please consider purchasing SCRIP gift cards for you holiday gift buying, for your holiday baking needs and in preparation for your holiday meals!! SCRIP is a great way for you to benefit and help out the school at the same time! 12/11/16 Page 5 St. Philomena Parish Youth Ministry For all students in 6 th -12 th grade Is your 6 th -12 th grader looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon? Why not have them attend Youth Group. Youth Group meets about twice a month form 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoons. There is no cost and it is a great way for the youth in our parish to learn more about their faith, have some fun and help others. Why not give it a try! The St. Philomena Parish Youth Group is sponsoring this year s Giving Tree Project!! We Need Your Help! Please take a paper ornament off the Giving Tree, purchase the item and return the unwrapped item with the paper ornament attached. Please put the item in the boxes by the Giving Tree. All items will be given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to hand out to needy families in our community! The Giving Tree Project runs from December 3 rd through December 18 th. The Youth Group will be helping out at the Knights Santa Breakfast on Sunday, December 18 th after the 8:30 AM & 10:30 AM Masses. Knights of Columbus Corner The Knights of Columbus Santa breakfast is on December 18 after all the AM Masses. The Youth Group will be helping out the Knights at this breakfast. Come and join us!
