2 Confirmation Reminder: Confirmation Class Sunday, January 21, 2018 and Saturday, February 3, Confirmation Rehearsal is Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 6:30PM. Confirmation Mass is Thursday, February 8, Candidates and Sponsors need to be in the Hall by 6:45PM. This weekend 45 Confirmation Candidates and 13 Chaperones are away on retreat. They are now in the final leg of this journey. I ask for your continued prayer for these young people. Thank you to the chaperones who help me out so much with meals, clean up, keeping the kids on task and of course making them go to sleep at a decent hour. You can donate blood while you wait for your student to finish class. Women s Bible Study News Now is the perfect time to join Women's Bible Study! We will be using a new program called Wisdom: God's Vision for Life by Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith. Scripture offers a vision of happiness and well-being. With this program, we will learn how to gather, gain, and grow in wisdom, and experience the joy it brings to our lives. The program starts Thursday, January 25th at 7pm in the Parish Office Upper Conference Room. The 8-week program runs through Lent. The cost of materials is $20. Legion of Mary It is a source of considerable sorrow to see that the greater part of the human race though all men who are born were redeemed by the Blood of Christ does not yet participate in those sources of divine grace which exist in the Catholic Church (John Paul XXIII). Class is back in session and we are covering some basic tenets of the Catholic Faith. This knowledge is important to develop a strong understanding of the Sacraments and Mass. Please pray for our candidates as they discern the commitment that they are making as the date for their Confirmation approaches. If you haven't received all of your Sacraments of Initiation for whatever reason, First Eucharist, Confirmation and Penance, this is a perfect time to check these off your to-do list. Holli Neigel, Religious Education Director Divine Mercy Chaplet All are welcome every Monday at 6pm in the Adoration Chapel to join in meditations, prayers, and the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Pre-Baptism Classes Holy Mother Church strongly encourages parents to have their babies baptized within the first few weeks of life. The baptism preparation classes are normally offered the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Upper Conference Room in the Parish Office. The event will be held at the parish hall. Tickets are $35.00 per couple and $20 per person which includes homemade spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, and dessert. Wine and beer will be available by donation. Water and coffee are complimentary. There will be games before dinner. After dinner dance the night away with music provided by our resident DJ, Brian Steadman. This evening is for those 21 years and older. Proceeds from this dinner benefit the St. Philomena School Marilyn Byers Alumni Fund, which helps alumni families attend St. Philomena School. The Gloria Strauss Fund which helps families in financial stress and the Robert Ruth Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a student athlete. Come enjoy this wonderful evening as we continue to celebrate St. Philomena School. St. Philomena Parish Youth Ministry Dr. Steve Morissette- Youth Minister For all students in 6 th -9 th grade The St. Philomena Parish Youth Group is an opportunity for students in 6 th through 9 th grade to get together on a Sunday afternoon. The mission of our Youth Group is to provide the students with various events and activities that strengthen and deepen their relationship with God and with their peers. There is also an emphasis on service and the commitment to help others. We meet usually twice a month on Sundays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Youth Group is for any St. Philomena Parish student in 6 th through 9 th grade. This Sunday, Jan. 14 th, we are attending The Hi-Liners Musical Theatre production of Rodgers and Hammerstein s G2K Cinderella. The musical starts at 3:00 PM. All those in Youth Group who would like to attend the musical, please be at the theater at 2:45 PM. The Youth Group will purchase your ticket. Parents who would like to attend need to purchase their own ticket. The musical is over at 4:30 PM. Please arrange to have your ride pick you up at 4:30 PM.
