We possess several of his letters, giving us a window through which we see vividly the life of the early Church. His name is included in the list of saints mentioned in the first Eucharistic Prayer, the so-called Roman Canon.

3 My dear parish family, As I ve noted before, one of the most interesting websites I ve come across in a long time is called Helenadaily.com, the work of a woman named Carrie Gress. I go to the site everyday and never fail to find one or two very interesting and helpful items on it. Gress must view dozens of other sites, many of which I m unfamiliar with, in order to put together on her site ten of the best articles she discovers. She s obviously a very bright lady, having a Ph.D. in philosophy. For those of you who don t know what it takes to get such a degree: thirty (or is it sixty, I m not sure) credits in graduate philosophy after securing an M.A., a book length doctoral thesis that must be defended before a panel of experts, and a reading knowledge of French and German. She s also a wife and mother, as her site makes clear. And she s the author of several very good books, three of which have the Blessed Virgin Mary as their focus. One of these is a beautiful book for children preparing them for consecration to Mary. It uses stories from literature and the Bible to illustrate the nature of virtue and love of Mary and Jesus. It s called Marian Consecration for Children. It would be a wonderful book for parents to read to their children. They d probably get a lot out of it themselves. Not long ago one of the Helena Daily articles highlighted a book that detailed research showing that one of the very best things you can do for young children is read picture books to them. It changes and prepares their brains for the future of learning in a way nothing else does. Gress most recent book is Anti-Mary Exposed, a well-documented and devastating critique of radical feminism that also explains the way Mary can lead individuals and society to a healthier vision of sexual relationships, marriage, and motherhood. She s also written The Marian Option, her take on how Mary can keep us on track in the perilously anti-christian atmosphere in which we are currently living. Give Helenadaily.com a try. If you have children or grandchildren, think about getting hold of Marian Consecration for Children. Hear the answer: Never! --Peter Kreeft This poem, unusual for Kreeft in that he s a philosopher, not a poet, appears as an appendix in his book, Doors in the Walls of the World. It is a simple, succinct, summary of what we know of God and His dealings with us as revealed in and by Jesus Christ. The poem appeared originally in Kreeft s only novel, An Ocean Full of Angels.

9 RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY Good Friday Way of the Cross Pilgrimage April 19th 9 a.m. 12 noon (Start at St. Lawrence) Join Our Lady of the Snow Respect Life Ministry in a the Way of the Cross Pilgrimage, walking and praying the Stations of the Cross, the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet on a 4 mile, police escorted journey along Montauk Highway from St. Lawrence the Martyr Church in Sayville to Our Lady of the Snow. Terminal Does Not Mean Disposable By Loren Christie It is important to remain aware of the progress of "The Medical Aid in Dying Act" that is being proposed in the NY State Assembly and Senate. The Assembly bill number is A02694 and the Senate bill number is S The proposed Medical Aid in Dying Act goes as far as to possibly remove the word "suicide" from a medical report as the cause of death, even though a patient has opted to take medication with the distinct purpose of ending his/her own life. This effort to change language will shift societal norms, contributing to a notion that it is more acceptable, and legally easier, to take one's life through medication. The Medical Aid in Dying Act is an extension of efforts to chip away at the value of human life. When someone is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he/she needs to be surrounded with LOVE and HOPE. Terminal does not mean disposable! This is verbal engineering at its extreme. Call your senator and assemblyperson and put this bill on their radar. More importantly, vote for candidates that oppose this bill in Shown here: Barbara Renner volunteering with other parishes for the 40 Days for Life Prayer Vigil. Our next Respect Life Ministry meeting will be held Thursday, April 4th at 10 a.m. in the cottage.
