3 A Message from the Administrator Page 3 May 4, 2014 Sunday, May 4, 2014 Third Sunday of Easter A Message from Father Jim Drew Dear Parishioners, Easter is not just a one day feast. It is a season of 40 days. We celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus, which is the pledge of our own Resurrection. As we come together each Sunday, we follow the example of the first Christians in praying together, listening to the Word of God and deepening our Communion with the Risen Lord as we share in His Body and Blood. The Easter Scripture readings expand our understanding of the Risen Jesus and they inspire us to live our faith with the courage and confidence of Jesus first disciples and apostles. As we celebrate the First Communion of our young people on Saturdays, you, their parents, are leading your children into a deeper relationship with Christ and His church. Your example to them in living our faith in the Risen Lord is vital. Your leadership of them as Christian parents in practicing the faith on Sundays and weekdays is a privilege and a responsibility. Why is Mary, the Mother of Jesus honored during May? As we now enter the month of May, we focus our attention on Mary the Mother of Jesus. The Catholic church sets aside numerous days during the year to honor Mary. In addition to major feasts such as the Immaculate Conception on December 8th and the Assumption on August 15, most Saturdays in Ordinary Time, as well as the months of October and May are under her patronage. What is particularly interesting about Marian days and seasons is that each reflects a particular aspect of Mary s character. For instance, October is dedicated to Mary, Queen of the Rosary, while May is devoted to Mary, Queen of Heaven. During this month, I encourage you to pray the Rosary regularly with your family. The joyful, luminous, sorrowful and glorious mysteries of the Rosary describe the different phases of the life of Jesus and Mary. For example, the glorious mysteries focus on Jesus resurrection and ascension into heaven while the other glorious mysteries focus on Mary and the apostles and Mary s assumption into heaven. Using the Rosary is a prayerful and Biblical way of reflection on the story of our salvation. During this month, I encourage you to pray two other Marian prayers: the Hail Mary and Mary s Canticle. Luke 1:46-55, also known as the Magnificat.

4 Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet, on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which He look Compassion on this world. Yours are the feet With which He walks to do good. Yours are the hands With which He blesses all the world. Yours are the hands Yours are the feet. Your are the eyes You are His Body Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes, through which He looks Compassion on this world. Christ has no body on earth but yours. St Teresa Of Avila Make Stewardship a Way of Life in 2014 ~ A Year of Grace for All of Us ~ 1. Discover the God of the Bible. 2. Discover that we are Jesus disciples and strive to live as His disciples anew. 3. Discover our God-given gifts and share them with others. When we take the time to recognize God s hand in all that we have we begin to understand God s love for us. Only then can we begin to understand our need to return that love to others. Source: 2014 Catholic Family Calendar: May Raynor & D Andrea Funeral Home What will be different about this Easter Season? Here s how it can help you: As the deer longs for streams of water, the psalmist wrote, so my soul longs for you, O God (42:2). The sentiment expresses what many Americans felt about springtime this year. That kind of deep longing mirrors the longing we feel for the coming of Christ...the coming of Jesus our of the tomb. Imagine the inchoate longing of the disciples after the terrible events of Good Friday. One often tends to focus on the disciples sadness, or their fear, after the execution of their leader. But mingled with that sadness and fear must have been an intense longing for clarity and consolation. How could God, they must have wondered, bring something new out of this? How the followers of Jesus must have ached for a warm answer to the cold reality of Good Friday. How they must have sought light after the darkness of his death. How they must have longed for something new. Renewal is the theme that one finds not only in nature, but also in the church today. In the year following the election of Pope Francis, many Catholics have experienced a decided sense of renewal and refreshment. Catholics who had at times felt unwelcome in the church among them some women, divorced and remarried Catholics, and gays and lesbians have reported experiencing a new sense of newness. Other Catholics, who have felt welcomed, nonetheless feel new warmth in the church. This is not to set aside the papacies of either soon-to-be St. John Paul II or Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Each pope brings his unique gifts to the office. But it would be foolish to deny that with Pope Francis God is doing something new. The message of Easter is that Christ is risen. But the message is also that God can always bring new life from what appears to be dead. That God can bring hope out of despair. That God can bring love from a situation in which hatred seems to reign. That God can bring change when things seem unchangeable. That God can, after the hardest winter in memory, still renew the face of the earth (Ps 104:30). Easter means spring in every area of life. SOURCE: Excerpts from the Editorial in America Magazine, Pg. 5 April 21, 2014 Lent 2014 was an opportunity to discover or rediscover the beauty of being Jesus disciples on Sundays through scripture readings and on Wednesdays in the adult formation series Encounters with Jesus. This Easter is season an opportunity to live as His disciples: Stewardship is the key to living a full Christian life. Next Sunday we begin a series of messages and offer you a road map to discover what the first disciples discovered.

Full Reception into the Church We welcome Mark Klahn and Marlene Tully, whose baptism in another Christian tradition is recognized by the Catholic Church, entered the Church through a profession of faith and reception of confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. God Bless you and welcome! Words from our new parishioners! At the tender age of 59, I CHOSE to join the RCIA process. I CHOSE to go to church for spiritual growth. I chose the Catholic Church because of the concept of free will and grace, of which I m still learning. MY CHOICE! Mark Klahn I decided to enroll in the RCIA program because my husband, Rob, and daughter Reaghan, are parishioners of Our Lady of the Snow and I wanted to worship with them as a family in the Catholic faith. I have thoroughly enjoyed the RICA program as my understanding of Catholicism and my faith has deepened, not to mention the wonderful people I have had the pleasure to meet! I look forward to being a part of the congregation.
