There, the light of God s saving action begins to shine. Matthew also tells the story of the call of the first disciples. They seem to answer right away and leave everything. Life Focus 1. What did you let go of in your life in order to bring light and healing into the life of another recently? 2. Describe a time this week when you made and effort to change. 2 Third Sunday in Ordinary Time 2017 ANNUAL WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY JAN /17 This annual international observance is over 100 years old. Locally, observances takes place around the city. ECUMENICAL PRAYER BREAKFAST this year at Glad Tidings Church on Tuesday January 24 th, at 7am. Cost $ To Register by January 21 st, please call A full breakfast with prayer, and presentation about the 500 th anniversary of the PROTESTANT REFORMATION. I will be at the breakfast along with Bishop Marcel Damphousse. See you there? A FOND FAREWELL For Anne Germond, Newly elected 11 th Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Algoma. She has been Rector of Church of the Ascension for 16 years. She will be moving to their headquarters in Sault Ste. Marie. An OPEN HOUSE to say farewell is planned for SUNDAY JAN. 29 th, at 1:30pm at the Church of the Ascension, Sparks Street in New Sudbury. THE COST OF SNOW!!!Last week a cheque for $1, went out for parking lot snow ploughing. Your regular Sunday Offerings meets such an expense among others!! Widows/Widowers/Loss of Child Support Group: Our next meeting will be Wed. January 25th at 5:30 pm downstairs in the Upper Hall. The cost is $6 for the dinner. We ask if any widow/widower or parent that is interested in coming and has never been to a meeting before, to please call the office and give your name. We want to make sure we have plenty of food for everyone. Our numbers are growing quickly and so are the friendships. We also ask that if any widow/widower or parent wishes to join the quiet fellowship dialogue with our facilitator Celia, that they meet in the boardroom which is the lower room below the office at 4 pm. Here you can have a more personal healing time. It is usually in a small group setting and will last until 5:30 pm where the group will then join the others for supper. On Wednesday, January 18 th,why did an enthusiastic group of 20 children, their parents and grandparents gather at St. Patrick s Parish to Mess Up the church by taking a dramatic journey around the church, making piggy cookies, eating delicious pizza and veggies and playing games including a scavenger hunt? Because they shared Jesus parable of the Prodigal Son who was lost and then found! A BIG THANK YOU to a team of dedicated people who helped run Messy Church including Madonna Gareau, Jo-Anna Redmond, Gus & Loretta DiGioseffo, Laura Hulisz, Mary Ward, Alison Taylor, Abby Redmond, Ruth Ingram and Tayler Sullivan. The next Messy Church is planned in May. Join us! CALLING ALL UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE CATHOLIC STUDENTS AND NEW TO THE WORKFORCE YOUNG ADULTS. You are invited to join me at our 4:30 pm mass on Saturday January 28 at St. Patrick's Church followed by a free home-cooked dinner and visit in the church basement. There will be a meat dish and vegetarian dish (both delicious and gluten-free). Please let me know if you will attend by ing Mrs. Cathy Hopper at c.hopper@sympatico.ca. Bring a friend. Be fed both spiritually and physically and enjoy some company. The CWL REGIONAL DAY OF REFLECTION will be held here at St. Patrick s Church on Sunday, January 22 at 1:00 p.m. All women are invited to attend whether a member or not. It would be a good opportunity for you to get a glimpse of how the CWL members work together for the good of all. Also a reminder that our next ST PATRICK S CWL GENERAL MEETING will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8. Still need: $ 2, to meet our goal. Sue (Peters) Gregoris has withdrawn from overseeing the liturgical décor of our Church. Sue has helped with this for the last few years. Her skills and tastes have beautified our place of worship especially for the high season of Advent-Christmas and Lent-Easter as well as the other weeks in Ordinary Time. Inner City Home We gratefully acknowledge all those who contributed and supported us in any way throughout the Christmas Season. Whether it was through your donations of food, money, time, good will and or your prayers for a successful season you can rest assured that many families in need had a good Christmas and were helped through your generosity and kindness. Approximately 280 families were able to receive Christmas Food Assistance as well as gifts through Inner City Home because of your generosity. Without your ongoing support and commitment to help those less fortunate in our Community, we would not be able to continue to help those who would otherwise fall between the cracks in our Society.
