Messy Church Dear Families: It s time to Mess Up our Church! We are trying to introduce a Christ-centered evening for families in May, and hopefully, establish ongoing Messy Church events in our parish. The evening will involve a themed story about Jesus, accompanied arts and crafts, and a child -friendly supper! Our goal is to open our doors to anyone who would like to participate in an Enjoyable evening. We have great ideas but need team support to pull off a Messy Church. HISTORICAL SUMMARY OF THE DIOCESE OF SAULT STE. MARIE The Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie was formally established by Pope Pius X on September 16, 1904 and four days later, on September 20, the Rev.

5 HISTORICAL SUMMARY OF THE DIOCESE OF SAULT STE. MARIE The Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie was formally established by Pope Pius X on September 16, 1904 and four days later, on September 20, the Rev. David Joseph Scollard, then pastor of Saint Mary s on the Lake Parish in North Bay was appointed the first bishop of this new diocese. At this it extended from Callander, Ontario for 2600 kilometers, almost to the Manitoba boarder. The Catholic population of the new diocese in 1904 was approximately 34,000 with 64 parishes and 35 pastors, of which only seven were diocesan priests. During the episcopacy of the second bishop, Ralph Hubert Dignan ( ), the Diocese of Salt Ste. Marie was severed to form the Diocese of Thunder Bay (then the Diocese of Fort William) on August 26, Bishop Alexander Carter ( ) became the third Diocesan Bishop in 1958 and guided the local Church for 27 years. He was succeeded by Bishop Marcel Gervais ( ) who subsequently became the Archbishop of Ottawa. On December 2, 1989 Bishop Jean-Louis Plouffe became the fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie until On January 13, 2016 Marcel Damphousse became the sixth Bishop.
