Today s Gospel reading gives their reaction to that claim. Many reject his words and refuse to believe that he came down from heaven. Jesus told them to stop murmuring and pointed out the need for faith which only God can give. The Twelve remain with Jesus. They were the ones who would remain with Jesus once he ascended to the Father. Peter sums up their faith, accepting the revelation of Jesus with words, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. The people who deserted him wanted answers they could understand. Their faith was weak. The apostles did not understand either, but because they loved Jesus, they believed and accepted without understanding. We, too, cannot really understand how Jesus is present in the Eucharist. We cannot know, intellectually, how bread and wine became his body and blood. When we make our act of faith, however, we become one with him in a special, lifegiving way. Life Focus 1. On Sept 1, 1958 at St. Patrick s Robert Kinglsey and Janet Giambaggista began their married life together. They now live in Cornwall. Father Philip Theriault was the Pastor who witnessed their wedding. On Saturday Sept 1, at the 4:30 pm Mass they, with some family members will be with us to have a renewal of Thanksgiving. Coincidentally, Bishop Marcel Damphousse, now Our Bishop and former Bishop of Alexandria Cornwall, will be present to preside at that Mass and renewal of their marriage vows. IN ONE END OUT THE OTHER!!! Last week I signed 20 cheques for a total of $9, for staff salaries, staff benefits, Sudbury Utilities, liturgical resources, landscaping (trees at north end trimmed), plumbing. Your regular donations ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER meets these necessities. Thank you. Quilting with Lorrie: Do you like to sew? Would you like to expand your knowledge of quilting? Even if you are a beginner, these classes are for you. There will be a meeting on Tues., Sept. 4 th at 7:00 p.m. to determine interest, find out what is planned and what you will need. The lessons being taught will appeal to both the novice and more advanced quilter. Quilting sessions will be held on from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoons starting Sept.12 th. WIDOWS/WIDOWERS/LOSS OF CHILD SUPPORT GROUP: Our next supper will be Tuesday, September 25 th, 2018 at 5:30 pm downstairs in the Upper Hall. Cost is $8. Tickets will be available in the office beginning Sept. 10 th and after the Masses on both Saturday and Sunday Sept. 15 th, 16 th, 22 nd, 23 rd. If you are a fresh widow/widower or have lost a child and would like to meet someone to talk about your grief, please call the office and we will arrange someone to meet with you. ST. PATRICK S SUPPORT GROUP FOR SEPARATED AND DIVORCED St. Patrick s Church will begin another 13 week DivorceCare workshop that supports separated and divorced people with video, discussion and workbook components. Many people don t understand the hurt that comes from separation and divorce. That s why many of your family and friends don t fully understand what you are going through and don t know how best to help you. We do. Our DivorceCare group is led by people who have been through divorce and successfully rebuilt their lives. It will be every Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the upper hall, beginning September 10 th, 2018 until December 3 rd, You can join at any time. Please call either Brian at or Anne at AWAY I am away for some needed R&R after 2 months mourning, preparing for new Pastor, usual Parish events and now the adjustments to a delayed retirement. Thanks to Bishop Damphousse I will be able to have a free Sunday. He will cover me for Sept ½. Please welcome him as our Pastor in his challenging tasks to care for our large diocese (about 100 Catholic Communities). I will be away August 27 th to Sept 6 th.
