Their rituals must express a genuine conversion of their hearts. They cannot fast expecting to twist God s arm. Jesus likewise calls his followers to conduct their lives so that they will call attention to the presence of God within them. Salt, light and a city on a hill are clear ways to show what this message means. Life Focus 1. Who in your life might help you find courage, meaning, energy for living? 2. 2 Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time WORLD DAY OF THE SICK Feb 11, 2017 The ministry of Jesus to the sick is central to the life of the Church. February 11 (Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes) highlights the healing ministry of the Church. It reminds us that Service to the sick and suffering cannot be neglected. It recognises the great efforts of doctors, nurses, health care institutions and pastoral care givers to restore health to those afflicted with illness and disease. The Sacrament of Anointing the Sick will take place at both Sunday Masses. All who are seriously ill are invited forward. Present yourself for the prayer support of the community. It's that time of year again! The 3rd annual Mardis Gras Pancake Breakfast will be hosted following the 10:00am Mass on Sunday February 26 th. Our confirmandi and young parishioners will be serving up pancakes, sausages, baked beans, fruit cocktail, juice and coffee. Tickets go on sale after Masses Feb. 11 th & 12 th. $10 for 14yrs and older. $5 for those under 13. Children under 3 are free and the family rate is $25. This breakfast will help support the registration of our parish 'Just Youth' team that will be participating in Sudbury's Coldest Night of the Year Walk. Team 'Spirit' lead by team captain Linnea Cavallin will be walking with fellow parish Confirmandi along side hundreds of Sudburians on Saturday Feb. 25 th to raise funds for our city's Samaritan Centre and to raise awareness about homelessness. Can't attend the Mardis Gras Pancake Breakfast but still want to support our parish 'Just Youth' FUN raiser initiative? Why not sponsor a ticket for someone to attend who might not otherwise have the means to do so? I'm also looking for extra adult volunteers to work with me and our young parishioners with shopping, set-up, cooking, serving and cleaning. Parish Knights of Columbus Council The February Monthly meeting is next Sunday Feb. 12 in the lower hall after the 10am Mass. In the absence of a parish Grand Knight, meetings are being led by District Deputy Gerhard Schinko. Leadership is being sought to ensure to existence of the council. The next monthly meeting after February is Sunday March 12 after the 10am Mass. This change in meeting dates is an experiment to determine interest in further efforts to maintain a Knights of Columbus Parish Council. 4 A Message from the St. Patrick s Catholic Church Health Council We wanted to share with you, our fellow parishioners that the 2017 edition of the Parish Health Council is itself healthy again and rejuvenated with new membership. A membership that is very thankful for the work of the previous Health Councils that have served our Parish so well over the years and have take us to where we are today. It is our goal to continue to support our parish nurse, Zenaida Odense, and to work with her to develop one or two new initiatives. The first one is an enhanced Blood Pressure Clinic with the assistance of three Registered Nurses. The second initiative is to get Third-year nursing students who can assist Zenaida in the fall, during a week-day morning or afternoon clinics. The first enhanced Blood Pressure Clinic will be held after both Masses on February 11 th and 12 th. February is Heart and Stroke Month and we invite you to come downstairs to meet the nurses and have your Blood Pressure Taken! Matthew 11: Prayer for World Day of the Sick February 12, 2017 On this World Day of the Sick, When we are called to be especially sensitive to the needs of the sick, we pray to the God of our Faith. God of Healing, heal your people. We lift to you imploring our needs and the needs of the sick throughout the world, particularly those who are cast away because of their illness. God of healing, heal your people. We pray for the patience of the sick, and the compassion of the caregivers. God of healing, heal your people. Let your blessing of healing come among our Sisters and brothers that they may praise you all the days of their lives. We pray, Merciful God, hear our prayers
