Palm Sunday- March 25, 2018 Living the Gospel by supporting the Deaf community Imagine you were a Deaf child and your parents and siblings didn't know sign language. Your parents could gesture in a rudimentary way, but how do you share your joys, fears and needs? Silent Voice teaches American Sign Language and Deaf culture to families so they can share a common language. Says one grateful parent, I'm so
4 passionate about Silent Voice because their Family Communication Program rescues children from social isolation. Last year more than 750 Deaf children and adults received help through ShareLife-supported programs at Silent Voice. Thank you for your generosity. Parish Outreach to Seniors program - funded by your ShareLife donations, is making a significant impact! Here's what one parishioner said about a referral they made last year. "It's a wonderful program! I heard Father Andrew announce it at Mass a year ago, and immediately decided to refer a senior who I knew was in need of female companionship. I hoped this program would be ideal, and now one year later I'm so glad I made that call! She loves having the ladies come over each week to visit. They've all become great friends." If you would like to learn more about becoming one of our friendly visitors, or to make a referral for yourself or someone else, please call Wanda at ext. 135 or at seniors.guardianangels@gmail.com. We d love to hear from you! Easter Flowers We are again offering Parishioners a chance to sponsor Easter Flowers for the Sanctuary, there are Easter Flower envelopes at the Church Entrances. Coming Up Mar 26 Oak Terrace Mass: Millie MacDonald - 10:00 am Mar 27 Notre Dame School Mass: Mary Lou Evans - 9:30 am Patrick Fogarty Lenten Mass: Walter Buchkowski - 9:50 am Mar 28 Patrick Fogarty Lenten Confessions - 10:00 am Palm Sunday Palms are used on Passion Sunday (Palm Sunday) to remember Jesus the Messiah s entry into Jerusalem. These branches join us with those shouting, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! The Lord is leading us into God s city of life, the New Jerusalem.
5 Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord s Supper Washing of the Feet, we will have the Mandatum (Service) which traditionally has been the Washing of the Feet. The mandatum is meant to be much more than re-enacting what Jesus did. It is more than fulfilling His words do what I have done to you. To wash another s feet is to get very close to what makes us Church, to our Easter Triduum to minister to one another. This celebration will take place at Guardian Angels, St. Columbkille and St. Francis of Assisi Churches. Good Friday On Good Friday, we hear how Jesus obediently allowed himself to be raised up on the cross. What took place on that cross, the execution of God s son, tied together heaven and earth. It provided a channel for God s life-giving Spirit to break into our lives and world, tearing away the curtain separating God from people. We pray for all human needs, for all those crucified in the world today. We venerate the wood of the cross on which hung the Savior of the world. And we wait quietly for what comes next. Easter Vigil A fire, a large candle and lots of readings: from dawn of creation to the dawn of Christ, the new day. The candle is dated, blessed and praised - eucharisted over. It is the pillar of fire that glows to the honor of God. By its shared light, the light of the saving Messiah, we can hear and understand better God s loving incursions into creation s story. All is retold and done this night in the light of Christ. Those to be initiated or received into the Spirit-given new creation are washed and anointed in that same Holy Spirit, and celebrate Eucharist with us fully, partaking in the divine life we all share.
