FIRST ROSARY, LITANY & MASS In 1917 Our Lady revealed herself to three young children at Fa ma in a series of appari ons during one of the most horrific wars humankind had ever waged to that date. She requested what are now known as the First Saturday Devo ons, in order to make repara on for blasphemies and offenses against her Immaculate Heart and for world peace. Today, one hundred years later, the blasphemies con nue so the Knights of Columbus honor Our Lord s and Our Lady s request to make repara on with Holy Spirit s First Saturday, Rosary, Litany & Mass. All parishioners are welcome to join us in the Church August 4thth at 8:00AM. ARTURO CISNEROS We had the pleasure of having Arturo volunteer in the parish for the past 2 months. He assisted Fr. Pat with Masses and led Communion Services. He also assisted with funerals, weddings, anointings, Vacation Bible School & Life Teen events. While he was at Holy Spirit, he also volunteered in the parish office. His home parish is St. Anne s in Porterville. Arturo will soon be returning to Mt. Angel Seminary to continue his studies and discern becoming a priest. Feel free to send him a note of encouragement! Mt. BOOK OF THE WEEK Introduction to the Devout Life By St. Francis De Sales Francis de Sales s Introduc on to the Devout Life has remained a uniquely accessible and relevant treasure of devo on for nearly four hundred years. As Bishop of Geneva in the first quarter of the seventeenth century, Francis de Sales saw to the spiritual needs of everyone from the poorest peasants to court ladies. The desire to be closer to God that he found in people from all levels of society led him to compile these instruc ons on how to live in Christ. The most popular Catholic self-help book of all me is wri en for laypeople, to show how devout life is possible no ma er what one does in life, that devout life is not just for the clergy or monas c life. This classic is a proven spiritual guide for living an authen c Chris an life. This book can be found in the kiosk, located in the Narthex. Please sign up to take the Voca ons Chalice home. Sign up in the book that is on the podium in the Narthex. The Parish Office will then contact you. You then have an opportunity to pray for an increase in voca ons in the Diocese of Fresno. The Chalice is picked up at the end of Mass and brought back to the same Mass the following week. We are currently asking parishioners to take home the chalice at the 8:00AM Mass.

4 YOUTH MINISTRY Registration is NOW OPEN for high school Confirmation formation for You may download the registration packet from our website or pick up a hard copy in the parish office. Our annual parent meeting will be on August 12 following the 12 pm Mass. Formation will begin on August 26. Registration is now open for grades 7 and 8 for EDGE Middle School Youth Ministry, Forms are available online, in the office, or at the narthex bulletin board. Our Tweens and Teens Need YOU! As we begin to prepare for the formation year, we are in great need of volunteers to work with our Edge (grades 7-8) and Life Teen (grades 9-12) ministries. This is a very fulfilling ministry where you ll find that you ll receive twice as much as you give. Our young people are searching for TRUTH in a world full of lies and relativism. Please pray about whether or not God might be calling YOU to this ministry. Our young people need you. If you re interested, contact Martha or Francie in the Youth Ministry office at One of many adult skills is the art and practice of keeping a well-stocked pantry. We have to learn how the balance between keeping ourselves from running to the store every day and finding forgotten cans of veggies from We pick up the Gospel this week where we left off last week. Last week, Jesus sent out His disciples in pairs to bring the Good News to the surrounding region. This week, we hear about them returning triumphant and joyful. They are amazed at what was accomplished. Jesus, rather than giving them a pep talk and sending them right back out, invites them to come and rest with Him. Every missionary disciple (ourselves included) must have intimate moments with Christ in prayer. Without prayer, the well of self-giving that we draw on will run dry, and bitterness and resentment will overtake service. Without prayer, allow me to do this for you quickly becomes I always have to do this for you. When we lack prayer, we re not able to give freely and wholeheartedly. On the other hand, when we pray and don t give freely what we have received from God, our faith becomes sterile and lifeless. Sundays are supposed to be days of intimate prayer and rest. We are invited to refrain from unnecessary work, not simply out of obligation, but to dedicate the day to prayerfully recharging before continuing our mission anew with Christ. JOE HEFFERNAN ASSISTING PRIEST, RETIRED MASS-ARRIVING LATE & LEAVING AFTER RECEIVING COMMUNION It is understandable to be late for Mass occasionally, but when it becomes a regular habit, it becomes a problem. We are expected to fully participate in the liturgy. If we miss that much of Mass, we are not fully participating. The Concluding Rite is the fourth part of the Mass, and although the shortest of the four parts, it is an important part of the liturgy. The name Mass comes from the Latin Ite Missa est- Go, you are sent forth or Go, the Mass has ended and it is the name given to the celebration of the Eucharist. We go to Mass to be dismissed. At the end of Mass, we are sent forth in peace to love and serve the Lord, in deeper communion, we hope, with each other and the whole Church. We receive the body of Christ so that we go forth as the Body of Christ into the world, the living sacrament of his presence in the midst of others because through the Eucharist we become more profoundly the Church. Mass is the Easter Triduum in one and when we receive communion, we receive Jesus himself, making this the most sacred thing we do. It is right to allow ourselves the time to prepare to receive Christ and it is also right that we spend a few moments thanking Him for this gift and the proper place to give thanks is not in the parking lot. It is in the Church, until the Mass has ended, and after celebrant has walked out. ST.
