3 Page 3 April 9, 2017 ANOINTING OF THE SICK The church s sacramental ministry to the sick is important and necessary in order to support the body of Christ in healing of body, mind and spirit. The sick people and their families are filled with hope and renewed strength because they are loved and valued in our community. Anointing of the Sick should not be put off until the sick person is near death. This healing sacrament is recommended to be regularly celebrated communally in the parish or individually before a person enters a hospital or health care facility, especially when a person enters hospice care. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is specifically oriented toward those who are ill. The purpose is not to cure one from one s illness (physical or mental). The purpose is for healing. It is a sacrament of the living and therefore should be sought as soon as one is aware of serious illness or is facing critical medical procedures. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY April 23rd at 3:00PM Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet in the Church. The Feast of Mercy is a celebration and summation of God s merciful love and forgiveness. CD available in our kiosk in the Narthex MASS-LEAVING AFTER RECEIVING COMMUNION The Concluding Rite is the fourth part of the Mass, and although the shortest of the four parts, it is the most important part of the liturgy. The name Mass comes from the Latin Ite Missa est- Go, you are sent forth or Go, the Mass has ended and it is the name given to the celebration of the Eucharist. We go to Mass to be dismissed. At the end of Mass, we are sent forth in peace to love and serve the Lord, in deeper communion, we hope, with each other and the whole Church. We receive the body of Christ so that we go forth as the Body of Christ into the world, the living sacrament of his presence in the midst of others because through the Eucharist we become more profoundly the Church. Mass is the Easter Triduum in one and when we receive communion, we receive Jesus himself, making this the most sacred thing we do. It is right that we spend a few moments thanking Him for this gift and the proper place to give thanks is not in the parking lot. It is in the Church, until the Mass has ended, and after celebrant has walked out.

VOCATIONS WITH POPE FRANCIS In the message for the 54th World Day of Prayer for Vocations, Pope Francis reflected on the missionary dimension of our Christian calling. The Holy Father says that commitment to mission is not something added on to the Christian life as a kind of decoration, but is instead an essential element of faith itself. A relationship with the Lord, he adds, entails being sent out into the world as prophets of his word and witnesses of his love. Even if at times when we are conscious of our weaknesses and tempted to discouragement, Pope Francis underlines, we need to turn to God with confidence, and he reiterates that, by "virtue of baptism, every Christian is a Christopher, a bearer of Christ, to his brothers and sisters." In the message divided into three subtitles, the first being Jesus is anointed by the Spirit and sent, the Holy Father explains that, to be a missionary disciple means to share actively in the mission of Christ. In the second heading, Jesus is at our side every step of the way, Pope Francis describes how the questions lurking in human hearts and the real challenges of life can make us feel bewildered, inadequate and hopeless. But he goes on to say, if we contemplate the risen Jesus walking alongside the disciples of Emmaus we can be filled with new confidence." In the third subtitle, Jesus makes the seed grow", the Pope says that, it is important to let the Gospel teach us the way of proclamation. The seed of the Kingdom, he adds, however tiny, unseen and at times insignificant, silently continues to grow, thanks to God s tireless activity. Concluding his message the Holy Father underlines that, there can be no promotion of vocations or Christian mission apart from constant contemplative prayer and he encourages this kind of profound friendship with the Lord, above all for the sake of imploring from on high new vocations to the priesthood and the consecrated life.
