For additional information, please contact Yoshi Asanuma at SECOND COLLECTION: CATHEDRAL MAINTENANCE Today s second collection benefits the cathedral s maintenance and up-keep. St. John s Cathedral is the spiritual home of all parishioners of the Diocese of Fresno. It is the mother church of the diocese which we are tied to at baptism. Thank you for your generosity. Please remember to pray for Pete and Patty Marquez as they enter the final year of formation for Pete to become a Permanent Deacon. Pete and Patty have been Holy Spirit parishioners since 2013, and it is our prayer he will be assigned to our parish. Pete is currently serving the parish by assisting at Mass as an LA. and many of you will recognize Patty as our Parish Secretary. Let s give them our spiritual assistance by praying for them as they study and work towards this awesome goal. Formation to become a Permanent Deacon is a 5 1/2 year program in the Diocese of Fresno. It includes once-a-month weekend classes, weekly meetings with a small group and an annual retreat. Permanent Deacons may be married or single. Transitional Deacons are men who are becoming priests. If you would like additional information on Permanent Deacons, visit the Diocese s website under Vocations. BACKPACK DONATIONS The Knights of Columbus will be providing backpacks to students at Pinedale Elementary School for the up-coming school year. Any parishioner who would like to contribute to this effort is welcome to do so. Just bring a backpack with you to Mass on Saturday, August 25 or Sunday, August 26. The Knights will collecting backpacks in the plaza before and after all Masses on those days. Thank you.

4 INQUIRY Are you thinking about becoming Catholic? At Holy Spirit we offer inquiry sessions that offer the opportunity for you to examine the Catholic faith more closely. During these sessions par cipants ask ques ons, explore Catholic teachings, and discover what it means to be a Catholic Chris an. There are 14 sessions designed to offer accurate informa on and clarify any misconcep ons about the Catholic Church. Should you then decide that you want to become Catholic, you may move into a deeper level of faith forma on in our Rite of Chris an Ini a on of Adults (RCIA) class. These sessions will be held in Room 2 at 6:30PM star ng on the 28th of August. These sessions are designed for people who have been bap zed in another faith, or who have not yet been bap zed. This class is not designed for parishioners who are already Catholic and are wan ng to learn more about their faith.
