This is one of the oldest feasts in the liturgical calendar, commemorating Mary as the theotokos (God-bearer), as well as human mother of God. The solemnity falls on New Year s Day, the octave of Christmas. The passage of another year, reminds us of the magnificent truth that, to God, all time: past, present & future, is equally present. He holds all things together in himself. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And whenever he acts, he always acts in our time, out of the fullness of time. This is a deep mystery that, for God all things ARE. He is not waiting for things to happen. For him, everything is accomplished. January 1st is also World Day of Peace as declared by Pope Paul VI in1968. Pope Paul VI says, that every year, this commemoration be repeated as a hope & as a promise, at the beginning of the calendar which measures & outlines the path of human life in time, that Peace with its just & beneficent equilibrium may dominate the development of events to come. Adult Core Retreat Wed. 630 pm Core Team Potluck and Sun pm Life Teen Mass and Life/Edge Nights Wed. 630 pm Core Team VOCATIONS CORNER WITH POPE FRANCIS Behind and before every vocation to the priesthood or to the consecrated life there is always the strong and intense prayer of someone: a grandmother, a grandfather, a mother, a father, a community.this is why Jesus said: Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest, that is, God the Father, to send out laborers into his harvest (Mt 9:38). Vocations are born in prayer and from prayer; and only through prayer can they persevere and bear fruit. I am pleased to stress this today, which is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Let us invoke the intercession of Mary who is the Woman of the yes. Mary said yes throughout her life! She learned to recognize Jesus voice from the time when she carried him in her womb. May Mary, our Mother, help us to know Jesus voice better and better and to follow it, so as to walk on the path of life God has chosen for us! Mary was there. Mary was there when God became flesh within her womb. Mary was there at Jesus first miracle. Mary was there at the foot of the cross. Mary was there as the Holy Spirit descended at Pentecost. Mary, the Mother of God, was there with Jesus at the most important moments of His life and ministry. Mary is our mother and the mother of the Church as well. She is there for us too. Jesus gave us His mother to be our mother from the cross, and we invoke her intercession at every Mass. Mary isn t a helicopter mom who gets in the way, but she is always there with her maternal care when we need her. We can turn to her in a moment of temptation. Mary is a model of purity and wants to share her Immaculate Heart with you. It is impossible to pray the rosary and fall into serious sin at the same time. Let s make our New Year s resolutions with our mother Mary this year. Let s talk over our plans with her, and then ask her intercession to help us keep our resolutions. One possible resolution is to increase our devotion to Mary, who always leads us to her Son, Jesus. A family rosary each week, or praying the rosary on your way to school are great resolutions. Musings of a Barefoot Youth Minister I m a simple person...just a Youth Minister who enjoys deep conversations, playing with my three grandchildren, and loving Jesus a whole lot. That pretty well sums be up, but my friends would probably tell you I m not a morning person, I laugh at most everything, and I have a huge obsession with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. I m living life by Bl. Giogio Frassati s motto: verso l alto ( to the heights ) because God has me on this crazy adventure called life and I m just striving to climb closer to Him with each step of my journey. One of the things that keeps me closest to Him is our monthly XLT Holy Hour nights when Jesus moves among us in the Blessed Sacrament. Please, join us for our next XLT on Wednesday, January 11 at 7 pm. Allow God to take you on this journey and you ll be screaming right along with me, God, what a ride! Hang on tight, and you ll be surprised at the heights He ll carry you to!!!!!
