SPECIAL COLLECTION Dear Friends in the Lord: By virtue of our baptism into Christ Jesus, we are all missionaries, beginning with our own families and parishes. Like the apostles, we are encouraged to reach out to our brothers and sisters in faith, love, and sacrifice. We must do our best to continue to build the Lord s kingdom in our world. We invited you to help build our mission to the missions by supporting the Black and Indian Mission Collection. Your support will provide the presence of missionaries here in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native missions, schools, and religious education programs. Your participation places bibles and catechetical materials in the hands of priests, consecrated women and men, and lay leaders in Black Catholic communities in the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi; in Native American pueblos in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, New Mexico; in the far reaching villages of Alaska; and in so many other places. Your sacrifice addresses the need to train catechists, permanent deacons, and seminarians for future generations in many of our neighborhoods and backyards. Pope Francis reminds us in Lumen Fidei (51); Faith helps us build our societies in such a way that they can journey towards a future of hope. Your prayer needs to be constant as, together, we join our hearts and hands, always serving the Christian communities in love and in imitation of Christ, the first missionary sent from the Creator. FMI, or to reserve a spot call Aloise at CATHOLIC HOMESCHOOLING INFORMATION NIGHT -A meeting will be held on Monday, June 22nd at St. Mary of the Snow former school building in the cafeteria at 7 PM. A panel of experienced homeschooling parents will give a brief presentation on the various aspects of this exciting educational option. Our hope is to share the positive benefits, state requirements, curriculum, resources, offer guidance, and to build a support network/co-op of Catholic homeschoolers for the Ulster/Green County areas at the St. Mary of The Snow School site. COMMUNITY ACTION COMMITTEE- Will meet on Tuesday, June 9th at 1 PM in the church extension. All are invited to attend. 3 THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST FR. BILL S NOTES- My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Eucharistic Lord Jesus Christ, This Sunday is the Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ or in Latin (which is the official language of the Church) Corpus Christi. We celebrate as Catholics our belief in the Real Presence of the Lord in the Eucharist. At every Holy Mass, Christ is both the Invisible High Priest and the Sacred Victim. He is the High Priest working through the visible priest in offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass to God the Father. He is the Sacred Victim because bread and wine change into the Holy Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of the Risen and Glorified Christ. Bread and wine cease to be bread and wine and become God Himself Who is Really Present in the Eucharist through the process of Transubstantiation. I have been offering Holy Mass for almost 33 years and I hope and pray that I never lose my awe and wonder at being the visible priest through whom Christ is working as High Priest. Also, may I never lose my awe and wonder that I am empowered by my Priesthood Ordination since November 6 th of 1982 to be able to create my Creator at every Holy Mass. We will celebrate our belief in the Real Presence of the Lord by having the Annual Corpus Christi Procession at the end of the 10:30 A.M. Holy Mass. I want to thank Ed Altenau and the Saugerties police for having the portion of Route 212 available for the Procession. Please feel more than welcome to join the Procession or to watch it from the front of the Church. Also at our 10:30 A.M. Holy Mass this Sunday, it will be my joy and honor to baptize baby Charles Joseph Hertica. I wish to thank Patricia and Gary Moore for conducting the baptismal class this past Wednesday, June 3 rd, and for being the host couple participating in the baptism for Estelle, Pat, and baby Charlie. The parish s our Lady s Tea will be held in the Church Hall this Sunday afternoon, June 7 th, at 2:00 P.M. If you are a lady of the parish, feel free to sign-up on the sheets at the entrances of the Church to let Judy Defino know that you plan to attend. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Judy for spearheading this wonderfully fun social event that honors Our Blessed Lady and the lovely ladies of Saint John the Evangelist Church. The Gift Shop is open for business this weekend and I wish to thank Brian Kimlin and Libby Salerno for their parish ministry to all of us. At the 5:00 P.M. Holy Mass, I want to thank the family of Ramona Kemp for hosting the Gift Shop. Finally, with this weekend, I desire to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you folks for your prayerful and financial support to the second collection for Black and Indian People. Next Sunday, June 14 th, will be just as eventful as we will have, at the 10:30 A.M. Holy Mass, the Renewal of Vows for couples celebrating their 50 th and 25 th Anniversaries of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. We will also have the annual Graduate/Family Mass and the Beatitude Scholarships will be awarded. A lovely reception will follow the Holy Mass. I will write to you more about these celebrations in my letter to you next weekend. I will also have some thoughts concerning Flag Day (June 14 th ) in next week s letter to you. You are most welcome to attend the Parish Council Meeting this coming Monday, June 8 th, at 6:30 p.m. You are also cordially invited to the Community Action Meeting at 1:00 P.M. this Tuesday, June 9 th. The Cursillo s Ultreya will occur this Thursday, June 11 th, at 8:00 P.M. All three of these events will be in the Church Hall. Those of us in the 20-Week Club need to contribute 100% of our ticket money by this Thursday, June 11 th. If it is any consolation, I need to pay my money that is due as well. Last, but not least, our Advisory Committee for Parish Development meeting is a week from Monday, on June 15 th, at 6:30 P.M. with the next Junk in the Trunk on Saturday, June 20 th, from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Yes, we are a very active parish, aren t we? Please have all the dads in the family remembered at all of our Holy Mass momentos in June. MAKING ALL THINGS NEW God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist, You bring us together as Your Church in the Archdiocese of New York. Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese. Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and material gifts that sustain them. Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. ATTITUDE The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
