3 The Feast of Corpus Christi and the Forty Hours Devotion This devotion has a long tradition in our Church. It calls to mind the hours Our Divine Lord spent in the tomb before His Resurrection. It also reminds us that during this time, He descended into the region of the dead to call forth the souls of the faithful to share in His triumph over sin and death. In observance of this profound truth, we enter into prayer at the time of the Church s celebration of Corpus Christi. For as Our Lord Himself said: Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For a number of years now, our Parish has held the Forty Hours Devotion beginning on the Feast of Corpus Christi. We will have our Eucharistic Procession following the 12 noon Mass on June 3rd. There will be the traditional three Benedictions: the first, at the Crucifix in the Cemetery; the second at the statue of the Holy Family in the new section of the Cemetery and the third, in the Church when we return in procession. At that moment the Forty Hours will begin. The Holy Eucharist will be exposed on our Altar in Church continuously until Tuesday morning at 7am. We invite all of our children who received First Holy Communion to join the procession wearing their First Communion outfits. It is extremely important that Our Lord always have someone with Him in adoration. We invite all of our parishioners to sign up for an hour of adoration. The sign-up board is in the vestibule of the Church for JUNE 3-5. We encourage families to come together for a time of adoration. Also, we especially encourage that more than one person be present in the Church building during the night hours. This is a time of great sacrifice, grace and blessing for our Parish and families. Come and be with the Lord; He will not be outdone in generosity. Women s Guild The Women s Guild will meet on Tuesday, June 5th at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall. Knights of Columbus The next meeting of Millbrook Council of the Knights of Columbus will be held on Wednesday, June 6th at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall. Like the apostles, we are encouraged to reach out to our brothers and sisters in faith, love and sacrifice. Please help build up our mission to the missions by supporting the 2018 Black and Indian Mission Collection. Your support will provide the presence of missionaries in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native missions, schools and religious education programs. Your participation will place bibles and catechetical materials in the hands of priests, consecrated women and men, and lay leaders in our Black Catholic communities. Your sacrifice also addresses the need to train catechists, permanent deacons, and seminarians for future generations in many of our neighborhoods and backyards. Pope Francis reminds us in Lumen Fidei (51), Faith helps us build our societies in such a way that they can journey towards a future of hope. Adjustments continue to be made so that it s easier to browse and shop. Be sure to check the assortment of jewelry. There are many new pieces and all are very reasonably priced. We have also received many lovely dishes and items for home décor. And clothing moves in and moves out very quickly. Sometimes the ink is barely dry on the ticket and it s gone! Springtime is when folks move, downscale or just sort through closets and attics, and Uncle Al s benefits from this activity. The shop is truly an asset in the community, benefiting everyone those who donate, those who shop and especially St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Church!
