There will be a 7:00 PM Mass on Wednesday, May 9 th and an 8:30 AM and 7:00 PM Mass on Thursday, May 10 th. This is a Holy Day of obligation. Participate in Jesus triumphal entry into heaven after His mission here on earth. ULTREYA- Join your Cursillo Community as we gather for Ultreya here at St. John s on May 10th following the Holy Mass of the Ascension of Our Lord. Bring something for the sharing table. FMI, call Joe at INSTRUCTIONAL PRAYER MEETING- Will take place Sunday, May 6th at noon. The topic of discussion is The Rite of Emergencies. Come learn more about your Catholic Faith. This discussion will be led by Fr. Bill. Question and Answer period to follow. RESPECT LIFE ROSES FOR MOTHERS DAY- The Ulster Deanery Respect Life Committee will be selling Red Roses on Mother s Day weekend, May 12th & 13th. All proceeds go to their education fund. Honor your mother for the gift of life. Remember deceased mothers and grandmothers by leaving a rose at the Blessed Mother s Altar. The cost is $2 per rose. MOTHERS DAY SPIRITUAL BOUQUETS- In appreciation for their countless acts of love, have your mother or grandmother (living/deceased) remembered at Mass this Mothers Day with a Spiritual Bouquet. Cards are available at the doors of the church. ADVISORY MEETING- Will take place on Wednesday, May 9th at 6:00 PM. All who would like to help in the fund/fun raising endeavors of our parish are welcome to attend. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS The formal closing of our Religious Education Program will take place on Monday, May 7th. May God bless our children with a happy, holy and safe summer! CHURCH STORE- Will be open from 3:30 to 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 12th as well as after each of the Holy Masses that weekend, May 12th & 13th. ULSTER COUNTY CYO BOYS/GIRLS INSTRUCTIONAL LACROSSE The seasons will consist of sessions from May 11th through June 8th. No previous lacrosse experience required. Two instructors per class. All equipment will be provided. Pre-K through 4th Grade. All classes will be held at the Catholic Charities Community Center. Friday evenings 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Registration $35 per child. FMI, call Ext 107. ULSTER COUNTY CYO CO-ED RECREATIONAL VOLLEYBALL The season will begin on May 2nd and run through June 20th. Grades 3 to 7th Wednesday 6 to 7:15 PM. Grades 8 to 12th Wednesday 7:15 to 8:30 PM. All classes will be held at the Catholic Charities Community Center. Registration $35 per child. FMI, call Ext PLANT AND BAKE SALE Will take place on May 19th at the Trinity Episcopal Church from 9 to 1 PM. BUS PILGRIMATE TO THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF DIVINE MERCY Monday, June 4th $25 per person. Bus leaves Sacred Heart Church Parking Lot at 7:30 AM. Bus leaves Immaculate Conception Parking lot at 8:15 AM. Please arrive at least 25 minutes before boarding time. Mass and the Chaplet will be celebrated when we arrive at the Shrine, Stockbridge, MA. Lunch will follow in an outdoor tent bring your own lunch. Bus leaves for home at 2 PM for an expected arrival at 4:00 and 4:30 PM. 3 SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Risen Lord Jesus Christ, On Saturday, May 5 th, 12 children of the parish were expected to receive their First Holy Communion. This Sunday, May 6 th, the 12 children have been asked to attend the 10:30 A.M. Holy Mass and there will be the Annual Crowning of Our Blessed Mother s Statue at the grotto. I will expand upon these two happy events in next weekend s letter to you. In the meantime, please pray for the 12 children and their families that they will always receive Our Lord in Holy Communion in the State of Sanctifying Grace and in an otherwise worthy way. The 8:30 A.M. Holy Mass this Sunday, May 6 th, will be for the Living Members of the Parish Altar Rosary Society (the Living Rosarians). The ladies do wonderful ministries for all of us and I am very proud of all of them. You are most welcome to this Sunday s Instructional Prayer Meeting from Noon until 1:00 P.M. The topic I will present is: The Rite of Emergencies (which used to be called the Last Rites). I will explain why it is so vital for the salvation of souls; we always need to take eternity seriously. The Closing Program for this year s Religious Education (Faith Formation) Program will be this Monday evening from 6:05 to 7:35 P.M. featuring the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. You are most cordially invited to attend and worship the Good God with us at Holy Mass. THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR PARISH DEVELOPMENT WILL MEET THIS WEDNESDAY EVENING, MAY 2 nd, FROM 6:00 UNTIL 7:00 P.M. IN THE FOURTH GRADE CLASSROOM IN THE FATHER MORAN PORTION OF THE BUILDING. It will be limited to one hour to allow everyone to go to the Holy Mass for the Vigil of the Ascension of the Lord at 7:00 P.M. JUNK IN THE TRUNK- Scheduled for May 19th from 10 to 2 PM. Vendors will park their cars and open their trunks to display their treasures. $15 car/van/pick-up. Tables will be available to rent. FMI, or to reserve a spot call Aloise at CHICKEN BBQ To benefit Cub Scout Pack 37 will take place at the Blue Mountain Reformed Church on May 19th. This event will be catered by Stone Pony. Menu: 1/2 chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, roll/butter, homemade brownie. $13 eat in or take out. Servings from 4 to 6 PM. To order call: MASTERS PLAN PROJECT We chose to have a Bake Sale at Kindred Spirit Restaurant (my parent s restaurant) last weekend. We turned our $20 into $450 and donated it to St. Jude s Children Hospital. We did this project in loving memory of Janet Curry, Rose Daugherty, Margaret Williams, John Teitter, Fred Auriemmo, Irene MacNamara, William McCormick, Cynthia Caporale, George Nau and Robert Kuhar. Anthony Lewoc & Eian Cooper PANCAKE BREAKFAST- Will take place on Sunday, May 20th from 8 to 11 AM at the K of C in Barclay Heights. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits, bacon, home fries, milk, coffee and more! All you can eat! Adults $8 Children under 8 $4. YARD SALE Will take place at the Blue Mountain Church on May 19th from 10 to 4 PM. Vendors wanted. FMI, Speaking of which, the other Holy Masses for the Ascension of the Lord are on Thursday, May 10 th, at 8:30 A.M. in the morning and 7:00 P.M. in the evening. Please make every effort to pray at Holy Mass at some Catholic parish for the Vigil or the Day itself. The Church Store will be open for business next weekend, May 12 th and 13 th. The usual times are: Saturday afternoon, May 12 th, from 3:30 until 5:00 P.M. and after the 5:00 P.M. Holy Mass plus Sunday, May 13 th, after the 8:30 and 10:30 A.M. Holy Masses. Next Sunday, May 13 th, is Mother s Day. The 8:30 A.M. Holy Mass will be offered for All Moms Living or Deceased plus I will remember to pray at the infinite momentos of every Holy Mass that I offer in the month of May (the Month of the Blessed Virgin Mary s Motherhood) all those mothers who have been intended to be handed into us no matter when they are handed in; they will receive the full spiritual benefit of every Holy Mass Remembrances. Next weekend, May 12 th and 13 th, will feature our Annual Pro-Life Rose Sale. It is an opportunity to give all the moms a beautiful rose flower and support the 5 th, 6 th, and 9 th Commandments of God at the same time. May I ask God to bless and keep you in His ways. MASTERS PLAN PROJECT For my Masters Plan Project I used my $10 to cook a Spaghetti Dinner for my family/extended family members. I raised $125. I originally was going to donate my money to the Ronald McDonald house, but then something terrible happened in my community. There was a fire on Russell Street. So I gathered the money I made and my mom, sister and I went through our closets to donate clothes. We went to Mirabella s and donated the clothes there. Then we went over to Price Chopper to donate the $125. Price Chopper matched my donation. So I was able to donate $250 to the families. I did this project in loving memory of George Sowles, Michael Carey, Msgr. Charles Zanotti, Andrew Wood, Joan Whitaker and my Great-Grandmother, Agnes Snyder. McCoy Rothe PLANT AND INDOOR YARD SALE May 12th from 9 to 3 PM at the Reformed Church of Saugerties. Vendors wanted $15 a table. FMI, call Barbara at by May 5th. CHICKEN BBQ Will take place at the Plattekill Reformed Church on May 16th from 5 to 7 PM. ST. DYMPHNA- Patroness of those suffering from emotional and psychological difficulties, Autism and Alzheimer s Disease. Blessing with a relic of St. Dymphna and Communal Rite of The Anointing of the Sick will take place at the Chapel of Mount Alvernia Friary in Wappingers Falls on May 15 th at 7:00 PM.

MAKING ALL THINGS NEW God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist, You bring us together as Your Church in the Archdiocese of New York. Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese. Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and material gifts that sustain them. Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. COMEDY NIGHT We had a very successful Comedy Night on April 28th with 113 guest in attendance. Allowing us to raise $1,695. A very special thank you to Fr. Bill who paid for the comedians, allowing all the profits to go directly to our church. We would also like to thank the Knights of Columbus in Barclay Heights for allowing us to use their facility for this event and for all the men and women from the K of C that offered their assistance that evening. JOKE There were three guys talking in the pub. Two of them were talking about the amount of control they have over their wives, while the third remained quiet. After a while one of the first two turned to the third and said, Well, what about you, what sort of control do you have? The third fellow said, I ll tell you just the other night my wife came to me on her hands and knees. The first two guys were amazed. Wow! What happened then? they asked. The third man took a healthy swallow of his beer, sighed and uttered. She said, Get out from under the bed and fight like a man.

Human nature is to underestimate; we now have guidelines. PASTOR S COMMENT The consistent practice of tithing is a means of establishing in anyone a consciousness of consistent giving, which opens the way to consistent receiving. It has often been said, You ll never find a tither in the poorhouse. Remember St. John s in Your Will!
