If anyone would be interested in baking an item it can be dropped off at the church anytime before 7 PM on September 14th. Thank you! FMI, call Breeda at VOLUNTEERS NEEDED- We are looking for volunteers to help park cars at our Junk in The Trunk Sales. You need not volunteer for every sale. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS- Religious Education Classes begin on September 17th at 6:05 PM. We will begin our program with Adoration at 6:20 PM. Mass will follow Adoration. 3 THE TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Good God, We are having the next Parish Council meeting THIS Monday evening, September 10 th, at 6:30 P.M. It will be a reorganizational meeting since our long time president, Pat Fitzsimmons, has retired. The purpose of the meeting will be to come up with a plan of how the Parish Council will continue to function. Do we want it to be a monthly reporting meeting or a planning meeting? Will it set the direction of the parish or let each group do its own activity? This is what I, your pastor, need to know from you, the parishioners. What do you want us as a parish to work on? What do you think we should be doing? Please come to the Parish Council meeting THIS Monday, September 10 th, at 6:30 P.M. and add your voice to the discussion. Refreshments will be served. Speaking of the Parish Council, at this Sunday s 8:30 A.M. Holy Mass, I will offer a special momento for the holy intentions of all past and present members of the Parish Council as the best way that I can honor them. You are most welcome to attend the Sixth Annual Parishioners Appreciation Picnic this Sunday afternoon, starting at 1:00 P.M., at the Centerville Firehouse grounds. We are most grateful to the Centerville s Bravest for permitting us to use their property for the picnic for the sixth year in a row. The picnic is entirely at my own personal expense to show my appreciation for who you are and what you do for God, the parish, for each other, and for me. Our Religious Education (Faith Formation) Program begins on next Monday evening, September 17 th, starting at 6:05 P.M. The children will go to their classrooms until 6:20 P.M., at which time, I will offer the Rite of Eucharistic Devotion followed by Holy Mass offered for everyone present. You are most welcome to attend the Rite of Eucharistic Devotion and Holy Mass even if you are not part of the Religious Education Program. THE ULSTER VICARIATE RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE- Will hold its Annual Celebration of Life Mass & Dinner on Friday, October 12th. Mass will be at St. Joseph s Church in Kingston at 5:30 PM. Dinner will be at the Best Western in Kingston at 6:30 PM. The cost of the dinner is $30 per person. The guest speaker while living and working in a Lay Prayer Community at Covenant House in Time Square New York, Christopher Bell, saw a tremendous need to help single mothers and babies. At this time Christopher met Fr. Benedict Groeschel CFR. Together they began a unique comprehensive program dedicate to care for single mothers before, during and after the births of their babies. Christopher Bell and his wife have been given many Pro-Life awards individually and as a couple. More importantly they were very privileged to meet Mother Teresa in New York and Pope John Paul II in Rome. They are grateful to God for their seven children who came by birth and adoption and for their recent granddaughter. JOSEPH S PARISH- Invites you to an evening with Sr. Carol Perry The topic: Walking in Paul s Sandals. This will take place at St. Joseph s Church in Kingston on Monday, September 17th at 6 PM. The event is free. The children will be asked to be with their families for the Eucharistic Devotion and Holy Mass and dismissal will follow the Holy Mass. SPEAKING OF THE RELIGIOUS ED. PROGRAM, THE CATECHISTS MEETING IS ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 th, STARTING AT 6:00 P.M. Three members of our Parish Safety Team will address the meeting on safety concerns for the members of the Religious Ed. Program during the first half-hour. WE ARE IN NEED OF A FEW ADDITIONAL SUBSTITUTE CATECHISTS FOR OUR RELIGIOUS ED. PROGRAM TO FILL IN IF A REGULAR CATECHIST IS NOT ABLE TO INSTRUCT THE CHILDREN ON A MONDAY EVENING. PLEASE TALK WITH ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THAT POSITION AND BE MOST WELCOME TO THE CATECHISTS MEETING. Junk in the Trunk is next Saturday, September 15 th, from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. in the Church parking lot. All Day Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament is next Sunday, September 16 th, from the end of the 10:30 A.M. Holy Mass until 8:30 P.M. Benediction. Please spend some time with Our Lord. The 20-Week Club Dinner is Sunday, September 23 rd, staring at 1:00 P.M. at Anthony s. The Liturgy Committee Meeting is now scheduled for Monday evening, September 24 th, at 6:30 P.M. in the Rectory. The Church Store is open this weekend from 3:30 until 5:00 P.M. Saturday afternoon, September 8 th and after the 5:00 P.M. Holy Mass this Saturday evening plus Sunday, September 9 th, after the 8:30 and 10:30 A.M. Holy Masses. God bless you and all of our parish family. Her grandpa, seeing an opportunity, said, You have to do extremely well in school, take a lot of math and science, get into an excellent college, make the highest grades possible, then go to med school, and follow that with an internship. Then you can start your own practice. Honey, as smart as you are, you can be anything you want to be. The little girl gave all this a moment s thought and then asked, What do you have to do to be queen?

4 SEPTEMBER 9, 2018 PRAYER FOR LIFE Jesus, Mary and Joseph we love you very much. Help us spiritually adopt and protect all human life from preborn to natural death. Amen. MAKING ALL THINGS NEW God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist, You bring us together as Your Church in the Archdiocese of New York. Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese. Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and material gifts that sustain them. Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. FAMILY DAY-MAKING EVERYDAY SPECIAL Is the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse s initiative to promote simple, everyday things parents can do to build a strong, healthy relationship with their kids that prevents future drug use. Family Day will be celebrated nationwide on Monday, September 24th. To learn more, visit WHAT CAN WE FIND IN EVERY CATHOLIC CHURCH? Each Catholic Church is decorated differently, but some elements stay the same. Here are a few items you can find in every Catholic church. Crucifix: One of the defining features of a Catholic Church is the presence of a crucifix a cross with Christ s body on it. The crucifix reminds us of Christ s saving sacrifice, made mysteriously present again at Mass, and of God s infinite love for us. Baptismal fonts: Blessing ourselves with holy water recalls our own baptism, which washed us of Original Sin and made us members of the Church. In blessing ourselves, we renew our baptismal promise. Statues of Saints: Having statues and images of the saints in church helps us recall their examples of heroic virtue and faithful love for God. In honoring them, we honor God who created them. Tabernacle: Every Catholic Church has a tabernacle a box that contains the Eucharist (look for the red candle to show it is occupied). Here Jesus, really present in the Eucharist, waits for us to visit Him.
