RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS In observance of Veteran s Day, there will be no classes on November 12th. BLOOD DRIVE- We will be having a Blood Drive here at St. John s on Wednesday, November 28th (Please take note of this new date) from 3 to 7:30 PM. Please come and give the gift of life. Photo ID is required. WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA The Saugerties VFW Post 5034 is sponsoring a bus trip to Saratoga National Cemetery to remember the fallen...honor those who serve...teach our children the value of freedom by placing wreaths on the gravesites. This event will take place on Saturday, December 15th. The cost is $15 per person. We will leave from Greco Senior Center at 9 AM and return approximately at 5 PM. We will have a cash lunch stop. All are invited to share thoughts, concerns or ideas to improve our parish. The main topic of discussion will be Evangelization. LITURGY MEETING Will take place on Wednesday, November 14th at 6:30 PM at the Rectory. EASY RECYCLING FUNDRAISER CLYNK - You can recycle your clean 5 cent returnable containers, help the environment, and HELP RAISE MONEY FOR ST. JOHN S. It s simple: Fill a green Clynk Bag (found at the entrances of the church), then bring the bag to the Hannaford Lobby, where you scan it and drop it in the shoot. That s it! All proceeds go to our parish! Also, consider bringing a Clynk Bag to your place of employment and recycle their bottles for our church as well. St. John The Evangelist Church is sponsoring a bus trip to NYC on Saturday, December 8th. The bus departs from St. John s parking lot at 8 AM and drops riders off at Bryant Park (located behind the NYC Public Library, between 5th & 6th Avenues and between 40th and 42nd Streets in Midtown Manhattan). The bus will depart NYC from Bryant Park at 6 PM sharp. Roundtrip bus ticket is $38 per person (includes tip for driver). Reservations for the bus can be made by calling Alice Kirlauski at Payment is due by Monday, November 19th. Checks can be made payable to St. John The Evangelist Church. COMMUNITY ACTION Will be meeting on November 13th at 1:00 PM. All are invited to attend. 3 THE THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Good God, In chronological order, we have some important events occurring in our parish during the balance of the Month of All Souls. This weekend, the Church Store will be open for business at the usual times: from 3:30 until 5:00 P.M. and after the 5:00 P.M. Holy Mass on Saturday, November 10 th and after the 8:30 and 10:30 A.M. Holy Masses on Sunday, November 11 th. It is not too early to do your Christmas shopping and the Church Store has many items for sale at bargain basement prices. Sunday, November 11 th, is the actual Veterans Day when the Great War (World War 1) which was to bring an ending to all wars was concluded at the 11 th hour of the 11 th day of the 11 th month. It was originally called Armistice Day. The civic observance is this Monday, November 12 th and there will be NO Religious Education Classes that evening; they will of course resume Monday evening, November 19 th at the usual 6:05 until 7:35 P.M. time frame that evening. Please pray for all Veterans, both living and deceased who have, and continue to, defend our great nation. Tuesday, November 13 th, will feature two important events: at 1:00 P.M., in the Church Hall that afternoon, will be the Community Action/Food Pantry Meeting to plan the Thanksgiving Baskets and at 6:30 P.M. sharp, in the Church Hall, will be the second Tuesday of the month Parish Meeting. You are most welcome to attend both meetings. The Parish Meeting continues to be a work in progress and our topic that evening will be Evangelization (how we can begin to welcome back Catholics who don t pray at Holy Mass every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation and who don t go the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance, Confession, or Conversion) plus inviting non-catholics to explore the possibility of becoming Catholic. We will start on time and it will be no longer than an hour and a half; ANYONE IS MOST WELCOME TO ATTEND THE PARISH MEETING. Weather permitting, we plan on the Parish Meetings to be held monthly from September through May on the second Tuesday of each of those months. I want to thank you in advance for taking the time from your busy life to participate in the planning of reaching out to our brothers and sisters of our community in the care of the salvation of souls. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION- Will take place on November 18th after the 10:30 Mass and continue until the 8:30 PM Benediction. Evening prayers will be prayed at 5:30 PM. Sign up sheets are located at the side entrance of the church. HARVEST FAIR Will take place on November 17th at St. Paul s of West Camp. Christmas items, attic treasures, crafts, and baked goods. This will take place from 10 to 3 PM. This website also provides a map option to view a local street map to find the church s location. The Liturgy Committee will meet this Wednesday, November 14 th, at 6:30 P.M. in the Rectory. All-Day Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament will be next Sunday, November 18 th, from after the 10:30 A.M. Holy Mass until 8:30 P.M. Benediction. Please plan to spend at least a little time adoring the Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament on the Altar. Next weekend s second collection, November 17 th and 18 th, will be called Catholic Charities Campaign for Charity and Justice; I wish to thank you in advance for your generosity in that second collection. I will be very happy to hear Confessions for the 3 rd through 6th Grades in our Religious Education (Faith Formation) Program during class time on Monday evening, November 19 th. Community Action/Food Pantry folks are planning to attend Holy Mass at 8:30 A.M., on Tuesday morning, November 20 th, and immediately after Holy Mass, they will go to the Food Pantry in the basement of the Rectory to do the Thanksgiving Baskets. I want to thank everyone involved with the Thanksgiving Baskets for doing the first of the Corporal Works of Mercy: Feeding the Hungry who are our brothers and sisters in the community. Thanksgiving Day this year is on Thursday, November 22 nd. We will have Holy Mass at 9:00 A.M. that morning; since Eucharist means giving thanks it is the best way to begin our Thanksgiving Day. The A.A. will have their anniversary dinner after the 5:00 P.M. Holy Mass, on Saturday, November 24 th, with set-up that afternoon. We will have the 5 P.M. Holy Mass that day in the Chapel only. November 26 th will be our second Religious Education Family Night. Our Religious Education Program will be making homemade Advent Wreaths and parents are encouraged to attend that evening with their child. Finally, the Blood Drive is Wed., Nov. 28 th, from 3 to 7:30 P.M. and the Safety Team Meeting will be that evening, Wed., Nov. 28 th, at 6:30 in the Second Grade Classroom. JOKE George rushed into the confessional with a turkey under his arm. Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned, he said. I stole this turkey to feed my family. Please, would you take it and relieve my guilt. Certainly not, the priest said. As penance, you must return it to the one from whom you stole it. But I tried and he refused, sobbed George. Father, what should I do? If what you say is true, then it is all right for you to keep it for your family, the priest said. Thank you, Father, George replied, as he rushed off. When the priest returned to his residence, he entered the kitchen and found that someone had stolen his Thanksgiving turkey.

MAKING ALL THINGS NEW God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist, You bring us together as Your Church in the Archdiocese of New York. Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese. Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and material gifts that sustain them. Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. AFRAID OF THE DARK Author Unknown A little boy was afraid of the dark. One night his mother told him to go out to the back porch and bring her the broom. The little boy turned to his mother and said, "Mama, I don't want to go out there. It's dark." The mother smiled reassuringly at her son. "You don't have to be afraid of the dark," she explained. "Jesus is out there. He'll look after you and protect you." The little boy looked at his mother real hard and asked, Are you sure he's out there?" "Yes, I 'm sure. He is everywhere, and he is always ready to help you when you need him," she said. The little boy thought about that for a minute and then went to the back door and cracked it a little. Peering out into the darkness, he called, "Jesus? If you're out there, would you please hand me the broom?
