It will include scripture and music, the ceremonial plate and a complete chicken dinner. We are cooking here at the church and would love to have some assistance with cooking, setup and clean up. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Elaine Arvidson and Marie Altenau are looking for one or two volunteers to shadow them at this year s Seder Meal. After many years of co-chairing this celebration, they are seeking someone to replace them. THE JACK ROSE MEMORIAL BEATITUDE SCHOLARSHIP- If you are graduating from High School, plan to further your education and are a member of St. John s Parish, you can apply for Mrs. Renner s 4 th Grade Religious Education Class Beatitude Scholarship. Scholarship applications are available at either the church or rectory office. All applications must be returned by April 1 st. Also, continue to drop your loose change in the containers at the doors of the church. Our class appreciates your support in this project. GOLDEN ANNIVERSARIES- Couples celebrating their 50 th Wedding Anniversary during 2017 are invited to attend the Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass with Cardinal Dolan at the Cathedral of St. Patrick on June 11th at 2 PM. Pre-registration is required. Register by May 12th. Our parish will be honoring all who will be celebrating 25 or 50 years of marriage during 2017 at a special Mass in June. 3 FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ, Jonathan MacNamara will be speaking at the end of the Holy Masses this weekend. He is a Fourth Grader in the Religious Education Program of our parish. The children in that class are doing a project called The Master s Plan. Jonathan s Master s Plan project is a Benefit Basket Raffle. After the Holy Masses, he will be manning a table located near the organ and the repository altar. At that table, he will be selling to us tickets for chances on winning the Benefit Basket and its contents. The contents will be: a $250 gift card for Hannaford, a $25 gift card for Shop Rite, and 10 scratch-off tickets. The chances for the Benefit Basket are $2 each or three for $5. Jonathan is donating all the money raised to the Wildlife Conservation Society; the Society helps wildlife and places all around the world through science, action, and conservation. I announced about this last weekend at the end of the Holy Masses; I want to thank you in advance for supporting his Master s Plan Project. I want to thank wholeheartedly anyone and everyone who did anything and everything to make the Ulster County Deanery Catholic Clergy Dinner so successful. The clergy were so satisfied with the wonderful dinner that all of them took boxes of leftovers with them when they departed. The dinner was held in the Church Hall after the Solemn Holy Hour in the Chapel from 2 until 3 P.M. and the meeting that lasted from 3 until 4:30 P.M. The food and beverages were in great quality and great quantity. Much work went into that day and all the clergy were deeply grateful to all of our fellow parishioners who made the dinner such a special occasion. All of the folks who helped made me look good and I am most deeply grateful to all of them. This weekend continues our Advisory Committee for Parish Development selling tickets to the Comedy Night which is scheduled for Saturday, April 29 th, at 8:30 P.M. at the Knights of Columbus Council Building in the Village of Saugerties. Members of the Committee will again be selling tickets at $15 each at a table near the Church Store or the same location as last weekend. I wish to thank you in advance for supporting this terrific fun/fund raiser for our parish. I want to thank you for your support toward the Catholic Relief Services second collection last weekend. This Saturday, April 1 st, at 10:00 A.M., I had the delight of hearing the First Confessions of the 8 children in the Second Grade Religious Education Class. May we pray that they and their families and friends will go frequently and worthily to the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the rest of their lives. Also, I had the honor to offer a Memorial Holy Mass at 2 P.M. on this Saturday, April 1 st for the repose of the soul of Ryan Charles Panchak with his close relatives in attendance. You are most welcome to attend the first Sunday of the month Instructional Prayer Meeting starting at 12 Noon and concluding by 1 P.M. this Sunday, April 3 rd, in the Chapel portion of the Church. The topic is The Twelve Articles of the Apostles Creed. This Friday, April 7 th, starting at 7 P.M., Deacon Bob will be conducting the Stations of the Cross; he and I have been alternating the six Fridays in Lent that we have had the traditional stations; I will be writing about Holy Week in my letter to you next weekend. The Church Store will be open for business next Saturday afternoon, April 8 th, from 3:30 until 5 P.M. and after all three Holy Masses on April 8 th and 9 th. JOKE There was a student who wanted to be admitted to the University. He was smart enough to get through the written test, a GED, and was to appear for the personal interview. Later, as the interview progressed, the interviewer found this boy to be bright since he could answer all the questions correctly. The interviewer got impatient and decided to corner the boy. Tell me your choice, I shall either ask you ten easy questions or ONE real difficult. The boy said, My choice is ONE real difficult question. Well, good luck to you, you have made your own choice! said the interviewer. Tell me: What comes first, Day or Night? The boy paused for a moment and then said: It s the DAY, sir. Thinking to himself ( At last, I got you! ), the interviewer smiled and said, How??? Sorry sir, you promised me that you would ask me ONLY ONE difficult question! The student was admitted to the University.

Amen. - MAKING ALL THINGS NEW God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist, You bring us together as Your Church in the Archdiocese of New York. Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our actions as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese. Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and material gifts that sustain them. Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to the truth of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. YOU MATTER By Thomas L. Ehrich, "The Journey" As my older boys reach my size, I see my clothing receive new life. The current "grunge look" requires exactly the old trousers and shirts that I can't bear to throw away. Today, however, one of my treasures is needed: my teal jacket from L.L. Bean. When it walks off to school, I wonder if I'll ever see it again. It's no big deal, and yet it is a big deal. It's love "in truth and action." I don't feel like a martyr, but neither do I feel untouched.. I recall the Volkswagen my father "sold" me for a pittance. I recall the night in New York City when my parents waited patiently for me to finish my grad-school job and ate steak at midnight without complaining. I recall, with humility, the times Heidi has sacrificed her life in order to follow my career odyssey. When someone sacrifices for you, the message is: you matter. I give up something important because you are important. That, in turn, is the truth. You do matter. You are important. You are worth loving. The world, of course, puts conditions on love. Buy this, do that, achieve, win for only then are you worth loving. But that is a lie. Our worth comes from God, and God has sacrificed life itself for us. In His eyes, we are mighty fine stuff. When we treat each other as less than worthy, we live a lie. "...let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action." (1John 3:18)
