Apprval f the May 10 and July 19, 2017, meeting minutes and fficer and cmmittee reprts. Secretary Melissa Brill aplgized fr having t be cnferenced in due t car issues. She advised that her July meeting ntes had gtten wet and, althugh she had shipped ut the minutes, she fully anticipated the Bard might have revisins. The minutes f the May and July meetings had nt gne ut in time fr the meeting hst t run cpies fr the meeting. They wuld be handled later. V. President s remarks There were n president s remarks. VI. Old business Bard actins since the last meeting Alan advised the Bard had apprved a dnatin in lieu f flwers fr Geff s sister s funeral. Melissa reminded the Bard that she had previusly ed a nte t them regarding decisins made by a qurum fllwing the August lunch meeting. Thse decisins included: Apprval t use the 2015 and 2016 Chapter Rewards Prgram pints fr cmplimentary 2017 and 2018 ICC ABM registratins. Apprval t distribute thse registratins via lttery. Final winners after eliminating thse receiving ther funding (Tamara Hagerman and David Byl) were Alan Napli and Eirene Kntt.

2 Apprval f the inspectr skills class fr the Chapter s free annual training day. Melissa als advised she had reminded thse present during that imprmptu meeting that the May meeting minutes had still nt been apprved by vte, althugh at least ne crrectin had been nted by Eirene (the spelling f Tan-Tar-A). She had reissued the crrected minutes fr re-review in her fllw-up nte cncerning items addressed during the pst-august-meeting discussin. MABFO update Eirene and pssibly David Byl wuld attend the meeting the fllwing Friday. New Chapter mugs update Alan Napli advised he wuld be wrking with Bb McKay n the new mugs and shuld have details by the January meeting educatinal fferings update There was sme discussin f the dates training space at Lenexa facilities was available and the pssibility f switching frm the apprved inspectr skills training t 2018 cde changes, which had nt been available at the time the decisin was made and which many had attended during the ICC ABM, and the need t advertise sn. Alan mved that the inspectr skills training be held n December 14, 2017, at the Lenexa facilities; Chad Cffelt secnded the mtin; and it was apprved. Chapter Rewards Prgram update Melissa discussed this under Bard actins since the last meeting Metr Chapter ABM update After sme discussin, dates were ranked in rder f preference as December 16, 2, r 9, Alan was t cnfirm the final date fr the Saturday brunch meeting with the Isle f Capri, then send the invitatin t the secretary fr distributin ICC ABM in Clumbus, Ohi Discussin included that: The cnference had been gd and everything was cnveniently lcated n need t leave the cnference site. There were a lt f places in walking distance and the mixed-use shpping area acrss frm the cnventin center was set up similar t the new Lenexa City Hall. The Kansas City welcme event had been better; and attendees had shared a lt f psitive feedback n the Kansas City ABM generally. Eirene had been invited t the break-ut sessin n the UL. WICED wanted t spnsr a Habitat Build event but fund the $2, dnatin requirement cst-prhibitive; instead, 12 vlunteers wrked at Habitat restre. There wuld be an article in the Building Safety Jurnal. Eirene had already reached ut t Richmnd regarding ding smething similar during the 2018 ICC ABM MARC Career Exp update David advised that: The event wuld take place Nvember 8, 2017, at Bartle Hall and was a gvernmental career day fr apprximately 3,000 high schl yuths, wh wuld be stpping by bths in small grups fr five t ten minutes at a time.

3 Tim Schmitz with ICC wuld prvide sme materials fr distributin, and Eirene might als have sme brchures. There were tw shifts available 8:30 t 11:00 a.m. (including set-up) and 11:00 a.m. t 2:30 p.m. (including tear-dwn). Vlunteers included himself and Basil Alan (full day) and Eirene and Amy Barenklau (half-day). Chad Cffelt said he wuld seek permissin t assist. David wuld like t get a few mre vlunteers and wuld be asking fr a cuple f Overland Park representatives. Melissa wuld be n standby in case there weren t enugh t cver. Eirene had an idea fr a nailing cmpetitin and culd prvide sawhrses, etc. fr it. Bragging rights via rankings n a chalkbard rather than a prize were deemed sufficient. Eirene might have the Chapter banner fr display at the event. VII. New business Nminating Cmmittee As the immediate past president, Eirene was fficially the chair f the Nminating Cmmittee. She needed at least ne ther member. Melissa vlunteered. Sctt Karr had already advised that he was unavailable t cntinue n the Bard due t his wrklad. These current fficers and Bard members cnfirmed at (r prir t) the meeting they were willing t cntinue t serve: Ken (immediate past president), David (president), Basil (vice president), Melissa (secretary), Alan Napli (treasurer), Eirene (Bard), Geff (Bard), and Ali (Bard). Chad Cffelt and Craig Slaughter indicated they were als interested in Bard psitins. Alan Gustin and Bill Trut, Sr. wuld have t be plled later as they were nt in attendance. Melissa wuld send a nte ut t members t see if anyne else was interested in serving n the Bard. Service awards There was sme discussin re: the plaque rder. Hnrary memberships There were n members anticipated t retire at the end f 2017, s there wuld be n hnrary members named at the Chapter ABM. Cde questins/interpretatins/cde changes Eirene was writing three t fur cde changes, pssibly ne in cllabratin with UL, and wuld share drafts with the Metr Chapter later; she gave a thumbnail sketch f each. Chad raised the issue f sprinkler and alarm requirements fr all cmmercial buildings except certain special ccupancies. Alan advised Gladstne was n the 2015 cdes and anticipated ging t the 2018s the fllwing year, as he expected mst jurisdictins wuld d. Alan nted ICC had listed that Missuri had a statewide cde. He had advised them that was nt the case. Other new business Regin IV representatin

4 David advised that Bard members were: Craig Slaughter, Missuri; Tamara Hagerman, Kansas; Steve Nrdhues, Nebraska; and Dale Engebretsn, Illinis. Officer term length increase David advised he wuld like t increase the Metr Chapter fficer term frm ne year t tw, especially fr the president and vice president psts, as ne year was nt sufficient t see prjects thrugh t cmpletin. Discussin included: Ken Hffman was the current president and, if he was nt available t serve a secnd year, he (David) was willing t mve up. Alan advised a bylaws change culd be made; but this was already allwed as there was currently a limit f tw cnsecutive, ne-year terms in place fr the tp tw ffices. A president culd step dwn after ne year in any case if he/she s desired. The secretary and treasurer psts had n term limits t allw fr cntinuity as there had been high turnver in bth previusly, and the current ffice hlders wuld nt be mving up. If the cnsensus was that a bylaws change was preferred, Alan culd meet with the Bylaws Cmmittee and draft the change by the January meeting. The change wuld have t be advertised fr vting prir t the meeting. Alan mved that the president and vice president be changed t tw-year terms, the mtin received a secnd, and it was apprved by vice vte. Seminar evaluatins David suggested sending ut a Ggle pll fr seminar evaluatins rather than having peple cmplete paper frms nsite befre leaving. Alan and Melissa advised that the ICC PPP had strict requirements n this and the evaluatins were part f it. Any such changes wuld have t be cleared with ICC. Survey f desired member benefits David wuld like t set up an nline survey t assess what members wanted/needed frm the rganizatin in exchange fr dues. These previusly-identified items were discussed: Alan nted the Chapter used t regularly ffer frmal training seminars but had gtten away frm that because f the Jhnsn Cunty Cntractr Licensing Prgram s twice-yearly training cnferences and the inability t find suitable, inexpensive venues. It might be better t survey what types f training peple wanted fr the lunch seminars, any cntacts/trainers they might recmmend, etc. David nted that he had spken with Gerge Schluter f HBA, and Gerge was willing t lend HBA s site, which wuld invlve catered lunches. Eirene suggested asking abut the catering csts and hw attendance numbers were determined fr the purpses f catering fr estimated participatin. Ken suggested checking int ther sites where fd culd be catered in. David said his jurisdictin s new facility culd accmmdate that. Alan advised members wuld like the cnvenience f being able t pay registratins and memberships via credit card. Square Card was nt practical, given the additinal fees assessed the Square Card accunthlder (rather than the user) fr keying in credit card numbers; but the gdaddy.cm website culd be cnfigured t accept PayPal, with the credit card users paying fr any service fees. Alan mved that a PayPal accunt be set up n the Metr Chapter s website and that the Chapter pay the nminal set-up fee invlved and charge members any applicable service fees; Melissa and Basil bth secnded the mtin; and it was apprved.

5 Budget fr Chapter shirts David asked abut setting up a budget line fr Metr Chapter shirts fr thse attending the ABM, similar t the HOA Chapter. Alan asked whether the idea was fr the members r the Chapter t pay. Website cntent, redesign, and scial media links Eirene advised ne f the MARC Career Exp crdinatrs had ffered t (fr a fee) help with web redesign. The preference was t keep csts dwn by keeping it in-huse. David said he had raised the issue f a Chapter website template with ICC during the training academy; ICC might be willing t prvide sme assistance. There was sme discussin f linking t scial media. Brad Hensn had set up a Facebk accunt and turned it ver t Eirene when he retired; there was n Twitter, Linked in, r Instagram accunt t date. Alan pined that mstly nly members referenced the website, but scial media links might be useful fr training events. In respnse t a questin frm Chad, Eirene advised the spreadsheet listing lcally adpted cdes by jurisdictin was being updated regularly. VIII. IX.
