A part-time cmmitment fr a perid f 11 mnths Participatin in a 'Stretch and Grw' experience t Myanmar 30 January 13 February, 2019 Tw face-t-face intensives (held at Nunyara Cnference Centre, Belair SA Intensive 1: 7-12 July, 2019 Intensive 2: 2-7 December 2019 Regular ne-n-ne mentring Minimum f 18 hurs f lcal cngregatinal leadership Our gals fr participants. T experience a mentred and reflective faith adventure. T grw and be renewed in the gspel (head, heart and hands). Be empwered t becme a leader by equipping them with skills that will cntribute t the church and the wider cmmunity. T have a deeper knwledge and understanding f Lutheran thelgy and hw it can cntribute t identity and make sense f life and the wrld. The pprtunity t experience the ministries f the LCA and hw they cmplement the ministry f Districts. T develp a sense f pride in ur Church. T discver and understand Christian vcatin in the wrld. T grw relatinships acrss the generatins. T cnnect deeply with their lcal faith cmmunity. Grw Leadership includes fur internatinal participants frm Myanmar wh will jin us fr the entire prgram, including ur time tgether in Australia. Cst The cst fr the prgram is $2900. This amunt cvers all flights, accmmdatin and fd including the trip t Myanmar and bth intensives. We encurage participants t seek supprt via spnsrship and fundraising thrugh yur cngregatin and persnal netwrks. Cmmitment Participants must be available fr all f the abve dates. Ideally this prgram is mst suited t university students and thse wh are wrking part r full time. We have tried t ensure that the travel is during university hlidays and activities are intentinally spread ut ver the year t assist thse wrking t have time ff t. While there aren t any big assignments invlved, there is an expectatin t jurnal n elements f the experience, be invlved in a mentring relatinship and ministry invlvement. We hpe it is a manageable prgram that will slt int the life f the yung adults participating.

3 Stretch & Grw Experience in Myanmar 30 January 2 February, 2019 PART 1 - Santa Teresa Spirituality Centre, Ormistn, Queensland. During this time, leaders and participants will meet and bnd as a team, learning imprtant elements abut the Myanmar culture and learning leadership skills that we will resurce us during the trip. 2 February 13 February, 2019 PART 2 - Myanmar This experience allws the participant t be immersed in an amazing cuntry. There will be an pprtunity t discver the past, see the present and hear abut the plans fr the future. Participants will see the prjects that are changing lives and meet the wnderful peple making it happen. Requirements fr Stretch and Grw experience Valid passprt: It will be necessary fr all participants t have a valid passprt with a minimum f six mnths available frm February Participants are als respnsible fr rganising their wn medicatin and immunisatins with yur lcal dctr. (Bth at wn cst.) Intensives Intensive July, 2019 Nunyara Cnference Centre, Belair, SA This first week will see us delve deeper int leadership, thelgy and a time f spiritual reflectin. Intensive December 2019 Nunyara Cnference Centre, Belair, SA The fcus will turn t explring ministry, including effective practice, handling stress and ther skills needed t be effective leaders. We will als learn and understand the wrkings f the wider LCA (Lutheran Church f Australia) and enjy a celebratin f the jurney we have had tgether. The week will culminate in a graduatin ceremny and dinner t be held n Friday 6 th December, Intensives are held in Adelaide t enable the best use f ur finances and resurces, utilising the prximity f the Natinal (Church wide) Office t facilitate sessins run by leaders f ur LCA departments and cmmittees.

4 Cngregatinal Fcus Leadership One f the gals pf this prgram is that participants will becme an integral part f their cngregatin (if they re nt already.) We believe that all peple shuld be given pprtunities t serve and lead within their cngregatin n matter what their age. Over the curse f the year we ask that participants are invlved in a ministry f their church in a leadership rle fr a minimum f 18 hurs. That s apprximately 1 hur per week ver the curse f the year. What kind f ministry invlvement? Participants may already be invlved in a ministry, such as children s ministry, yuth grup r a music grup. Is this a leadership rle? Cnsider ways that participants can becme mre invlved and take n mre respnsibility? Grw Ministries is happy t help cngregatins wrk thrugh this prcess. Thse interested in applying fr the prgram are encuraged t meet with their pastr and ther leaders t discuss ptential ideas as they wrk thrugh their applicatin. Is there a ministry the yung persn is really passinate abut that they wuld like t start? Culd this be the catalyst fr them t have a g and get happening with supprt frm a mentr, the cngregatin and the Grw team? Sme examples f ministry include: assisting in leading Cnfirmatin, leading a small grup f yuth r yung adults, assisting regularly with a cngregatinal based ministry (Sunday schl, music, hspitality). Mentring We believe that mentring is a very imprtant part f this prgram. Participants are t seek an lder adult within their faith cmmunity/cngregatin wh can meet regularly with them and encurage them n this jurney. We believe this will assist participants t grw spiritually and als be encuraged as a leader. It gives them smene t share the jurney with and t keep them accuntable.

5 Stries frm 2017 Grw Leadership Participants Renee Hein At the start f the year, I expected the prgram t be similar t the Vetamrphus prgram I did in Year 11 f high schl. Yu had a leader and a bklet, and yu just g thrugh the bklet. But this was much mre than I expected. During the Grw Leadership experience I learnt t think utside f the bx, gt pushed ut f my cmfrt zne, learnt nt t be afraid and t be vulnerable. I learnt that anyne can be a leader. This gave me s much mre cnfidence. The pprtunity t be invlved in many mre ministry leadership psitins thrughut the year and I definitely learned alt thrugh the verseas experience. I discvered the many leadership qualities I never knew I had and then realised I ve been using them all alng. I have als fund a new sense f cnfidence in frnt f peple. I am a new and imprved versin f the persn I was at the start. Encuraged by her GL experience, Renee is currently serving an internship at Tandara Lutheran Camp, Victria. Jel Grieger Befre cmmencing the Grw Leadership Prgram (GLP), I didn t really knw what t expect but I did like the GLP schedule and what I culd pssibly learn abut leadership within the Lutheran church. I was als expecting t meet sme real yung talented leaders f the Lutheran Church. The prgram met these expectatins. During Intensive 1, I learnt mre deeply abut leadership and hw t make a team run mre effectively, grwing and enhancing my skills. By delving int a deeper level, I further enhanced my knwledge abut leadership alng with als learned mre abut mtivatin within leadership circles. I have taken a lt f infrmatin n bard fr utilisatin in the future. I have als really enjyed meeting ther yung talented leaders and hearing their jurneys in leadership. I have been able t learn abut ideas and cncepts that ther yung peple have implemented in the past successfully. Basically the infrmatin sharing has been an abslute winner! I have learned that I have mre t ffer the Lutheran Church and ther rganisatins than I give myself credit fr. Jel began his pastral studies at Australian Lutheran Cllege this year.
