1 Participants Views n the 2 nd Annual Ottawa Immigratin Frum: Thursday, June 27th, 8:00 a.m. -12:10 p.m. General Observatins Ottawa Immigratin Frum has matured as a key cmmunity platfrm fr a brad range f stakehlders t cme tgether peridically t refresh ideas and receive new learning n the current trends and issues in the immigratin field. The Ottawa Immigratin Frum helps stakehlders t develp new cnnectins; and t cntinue reflecting and planning n best appraches in lcal immigrant integratin initiatives, in the light f the new learning. Bilingual nature f the Frum enabled greater inclusin f partners, bringing mre Francphne as well as Anglphne partner rganizatins n bard, thus catering t the needs f bth Francphne and Anglphne immigrant ppulatins, and raising the prfile f OLIP as a truly inclusive partnership. Key value f the OLIP Frums remains t be netwrking and partnership building pprtunities; next events culd benefit mre frm specific time built int the Prgram fr participant interactin, including small discussin sessins n tpics f cmmn interest. As a leading cmmunity event n reflecting and facilitating cmmunity-wide planning n lcal immigratin issues the expectatin n the chice f Frum themes is very high; fr the next Frums it wuld be imprtant t cnsult a brader stakehlder grup t arrive at a chice f the theme(s) that is deemed as mst imprtant, making it a truly cmmunity event frm the planning stage. Frum is a significant vehicle t reinfrce OLIP s cntinued value and legitimacy in the cmmunity, insuring high level stakehlder participatin thrughut its wrk-cycle. Fr this, it is imprtant t cntinue featuring the achievements, as well as clearly cmmunicate hw the Frum and OLIP mechanisms at large wrk t leverage and enhance partners individual wrk. Explicit discussin and explanatin n the mechanisms, as well as using the Frum itself fr mre integrative cmmunity activities wuld help maintain tractin twards OLIP. Frum Registratin Frum participants expressed a very high level f satisfactin with Frum registratin: 92% f respndents were either perfectly satisfied r very satisfied. Participants' Views n frum Registratin 3 3% 5% 62% 2. Pre-Frum Cmmunicatin Overall, pre-frum cmmunicatin was deemed as very satisfactry. Hwever tw participants indicated the fllwing cncerns: Ggle map n the Eventbrite shwed a wrng lcatin (althugh the address was right in all ther cmmunicatin). Mre infrmatin n Frum themes and presentatins in advance wuld have further enhanced engagement. 3 3. Venue Survey respndents expressed a very high level f satisfactin with the Frum venue. They saw the 2013 Frum venue t be a huge imprvement frm the 2012 Frum venue. Clse and csy atmsphere helped t fcus and engage better, and the acustics was much better. Still, a few cncerns were expressed these include: Prximity t ther event held next dr (having t walk thrugh their registratin area) created cnfusin and wrng walk-ins t bth events. Sund islatin frm the event next dr was nt perfect. Dwntwn parking was challenging. Participants' Views n Venue 3% 2% 28% 67% 4. Bilingualism The Frum aimed t be a Bilingual event, with mre francphne speakers, simultaneus translatin (albeit in limited quantity f headsets), and Frum packages in bth fficial languages. Participants expressed a great satisfactin with the Frum as a Bilingual event. One participant said that the greater attentin paid t achieving a Bilingual event raised OLIP s prfile as a bilingual entity, satisfied OLIP s francphne partners, and generating higher level f interest. Still, a few cncerns were cmmunicated by sme participants these are: Simultaneus interpretatin was nly ne way One way interpretatin disadvantaged the Anglphne participants. Keynte Speaker Almst all respndents deemed the Keynte Speech by Gerry Clement, frmer Assistant Deputy Minister f Manitba Labur and Immigratin- t be the highlight f the Frum. The breadth f the infrmatin presented using the examples f Manitba best practice was highly appreciated. The cntent f the Keynte speech was seen t have implicatins fr varius sectrs. The time alltted fr Q&A was highly appreciated. Particpants' Views n Keynte Speaker 2% 6% 1 31% 51% 6. Panel Discussin The theme f internatinal student attractin and integratin was deemed as timely and the discussin infrmative. Netwrking Opprtunities Majrity f survey respndents were either perfectly satisfied (26%), r very satisfied (37%) with the pprtunities prvided fr netwrking during the Frum. Hwever, cmpared t the ther cmpnents f the Frum, Netwrking Opprtunities were nt a majr area f satisfactin. Drawing frm participant feedback, this culd be explained by the fact that the Frum did nt include specific sessins designed fr participant engagement and rund table discussins. The fllwing suggestins fr imprvement were ffered: Ice-breaking initiatives t encurage mre participant interactin with each ther. Mre bth displays by partner rganizatins as a way f encuraging interactin. Mre grup discussin sessins arund the areas f cmmn interest. Particpants' views n Netwrking pprtunities 29% 8% 26% 37% 8. Quailty f infrmatin Overall, Frum participants feedback reflects a very high level f satisfactin with the caliber f speakers and quality f infrmatin prvided and presented by speakers. A large majrity f respndents (81%) were either perfectly satisfied r very satisfied. Sme f the respndents prvided the fllwing suggestins fr verall imprvement: Mre discussin n cncrete achievements f OLIP in mbilizing and leading the cmmunity arund the Ottawa Immigratin Strategy; cmmunity discussin n what s wrking well, challenges and hw t mve frward t prmte OLIP visin and strategic bjectives. Abut the 2 nd Annual Ottawa Immigratin Frum Feedback Survey Respnse rate: 28 percent - 64 participants prvided cmpleted feedback frms (44 English and 20 French) ut f 232 participants (26 individuals ut f the ttal f 258 Frum attendees were nt asked t fill the feedback frm because they were Frum rganizers r vlunteers) Survey questins: 1.
