While we enjoy the extra hour of daylight in the evening, it might be difficult getting up in the morning and going where we need to go in the dark. We need to recharge and prepare for whatever is facing us next. It might be the end of the school year, an upcoming surgery, an important move to another home or city, a vacation, a return from vacation, an important decision, or just preparation for Spring and Summer. It is the day before the business meeting, and I am starting to focus on attending tonight s First Degree exemplification for a new member of our council. I am counting on this program to recharge my batteries, as we approach a very busy part of our Knights year. As a council, we need focus on raising money and donating that money to charities. We need to honor folks at our Awards Dinner in April, and decide what roles we would like to fulfill next year within the council (officers, directors, and individual event/program coordinators). Lent is a great time to pray and reflect on what we are called to do, how we can serve, and new ideas that we are willing to try. Lent is also a great time to share our gifts and ideas with our brothers and sisters. Jeff Fry, GK 1

5 Think about the Miracles that Christ performed. Christ s Miracles required the participants to act (to be actual participants) for example, He did not cure the cripple without asking that to cripple to throw away his crutch and take a step. Christ s Miracles required us to surrender ourselves to His power to trust. 7 PAST COUNCIL ACTIVITIES Parish Social ( Meet & Greet ) This year s Parish Social was held after each of the Masses on February 23 rd and 24 th. There was plenty to see and lots of good food! The Confirmation class displayed storyboards describing their charity projects and each child was on hand to tell his or her story. Parish ministries also set up displays. We set up our council information table as well. This was a good time to find out more about volunteer opportunities within the parish with no obligation. Bishop Perez celebrated the 10:30 Mass and then came over to the hall to meet with parishioners and view the Confirmation displays. Many of the faithful asked to have their picture taken with the Bishop and he readily agreed. Pizza was served after 4:00 Mass. Our council hosted the coffee and donuts after 8:00 Mass. And this year, after the 10:30 Mass, there was a nice buffet of ham and turkey sandwiches, vegetable trays, fruit salad, brownies, and cookies. Dennis and Linda serve donuts Mike and Paul finally get a break after the rush Lots of Food and Desserts! 7

8 Ladies Appreciation Night Our annual Ladies Appreciation Night was held on Sunday, March 3 rd, at Canal Grille. This is a social event for members and wives/girlfriends. The evening started with Appetizers furnished by the council. GK Jeff Fry takes a monment to recognize the Ladies Jeff presented all ladies present with a rose DEEPENING OUR FAITH Deacon Bob Highlights from the meeting Miracles A significant aspect of our Lord s miracles is the cooperation he requires of the people involved. Rarely does he heal someone without requiring something. He tells the paralytic to take up his mat and walk, the man with the withered hand to stretch it out, and the man born blind to go and wash. Consider how his commands challenge these men. He requires them to do the very thing their sickness prevents, the very thing that frustrates, discourages, and shames them to get up and walk, to stretch out his hand, and so forth. But in order to receive the miracle, they must trust the command and try. Their trust in his command provides the proper disposition to receive his miracle. For divine work to be accomplished, human trust is required. In these miracles and others, our Lord manifests the pattern of salvation. God s grace does not work without our trust. He will not force reconciliation, healing, or holiness upon us. We must participate in the healing he desires to give. Imagine if the paralytic responded to the command to Take up your mat and walk with Are you crazy I m going to fall. No way. Such a refusal would be absurd but no more so than when we, willfully or by neglect, refuse to cooperate with our Lord s grace that is, when we ask him for something but do not act in trust; when we receive the Eucharist and expect it to produce effects in us without our cooperation; when we attend Mass and expect to get something out of it, although we are far away from the sacrifice of the altar; or if we pray for a good marriage but are mean and disrespectful to our spouse. If we ask the Lord for things, we should do so in trust, and act on those prayers in trust. 8
