For some of us, the beginning of a new school year contains a fear of the unknown. As a member of our council, I am wrestling with some of these same feelings as we begin work on our year s program. We are trying to improve some of our past activities, implement some newly mandated ones, and are going to take some chances on a few activities that we haven t tried before. Luckily, we have new blood in our council, which equates to new ideas and challenges the norm. We are also trying to reach out to members who have not been active recently in our council activities. So to recap, we are an active council that has been recognized with Star status. We have incredible men and women who make sure that our program is carried out successfully. We have many new members, young and less-than-young, who are helping to challenge us to get better. And we are seeking the help of Knights (some of whom I have not even met) who could add tremendously to our council, in terms of experience, ideas, and service. In many aspects of my life, I am resistant to change, hence my trepidation. As a council (and for me as an individual), we need to embrace change and some of the anxiety that goes with it, in order to make our council stronger. Jeff Fry, GK 1

9 DEEPENING OUR FAITH Deacon Bob Highlights from the meeting Summer is the season for weddings, so let's recall what we promised at our weddings. The big moment is when we said "I do" I do. These two small words, with just three letters stands as an icon in our society for a lifelong commitment and a consent to that commitment. The mystery of the consent within the sacrament of marriage allows and encourages our being conformed into one body. That consent is at the heart of married love, family life, church life, and all of salvation. When we humble ourselves before another and for the sake of love we are shaped according to God s will. Jesus Christ is the model for all of the I do s of this life. His submission to the will of the father and his self-sacrifice for the sake of the love of humanity allowed and enabled him to be the savior of the world. He was most humble, most sacrificing, most consenting and he was most radically conformed by resurrection. Jesus Christ lives at the heart of Christian marriage. I do unleashed the mystery of Christ s dying and rising in the lives of married people today. In relying upon God and loving each other, married couples are transformed into a new and living sign of God s kingdom. The two shall become one is a mystery, but it is no secret. Marriage is denying one's self for the good of the other. Married life is a life time commitment. So, this month, let us be especially attentive to our wives. Celebrate your marriage. Help them with the chores. Take them out for dinner, or surprise them with a special gift. And let us again say to them "I do". IMPORTANT DATES MARK THESE DATES DOWN NOW!
