3 Sixteen Knights Received Second and Third Degree Exemplification The second and third degree exemplification team did an outstanding job of confering knighthood on candidates at the Family Center on October 8th. It was a beautiful and very meaningful ceremony that included the new revision for the third degree. The six candidates from Council 560 that participated included Fr. Dave Hellman (Pastor of St Lawrence), Michael Brown, Joseph Edwards, Joe McPherson, Jack Sharp, Shelby Short, Jim Stewart, and David Willaert. A tasty snack was provided to all in attendance after the ceremonies. Photos below reveal something of the event: Fr. A Recent Field Trip to Maria Stein, Ohio Catholic Reliquary * A Saturday Oct 10 th field trip to Maria Stein, Ohio to tour the Catholic Reliquary was organized by Sir Knight, Jon Sullivan, Faithful

Knights and invited guests making the trip included: Jerry Bricker, Art and Sue Wessel, Daniel and Teresa Lee, Sally Milne, Carmella Mansfield, Veronica Pociask and Jon and Sonnie Sullivan.

Over 1,000 relics of saints, (the majority of which are first grade or actual), are on permanent display at the site for viewing.

The record dating back to St Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, relates that three crosses were discovered in a cistern in the holy land.

4 A Recent Field Trip to Maria Stein, Ohio Catholic Reliquary * A Saturday Oct 10 th field trip to Maria Stein, Ohio to tour the Catholic Reliquary was organized by Sir Knight, Jon Sullivan, Faithful Navigator of our K of C Assembly 243. Knights and invited guests making the trip included: Jerry Bricker, Art and Sue Wessel, Daniel and Teresa Lee, Sally Milne, Carmella Mansfield, Veronica Pociask and Jon and Sonnie Sullivan. Karen Post served as the on-site tour guide of the relics, museum, and grounds. Over 1,000 relics of saints, (the majority of which are first grade or actual), are on permanent display at the site for viewing. In addition to the full body of St Victoria, encased in life-like wax and clothing of the era (304 AD), there were two slivers of the True Cross! The record dating back to St Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, relates that three crosses were discovered in a cistern in the holy land. To find out if the crosses were authentic and included the True Cross, she had an ill woman touch each of them. After touching the third cross, she was miraculously cured on the spot (324 AD). The altar in the reliquary chapel is made of highly hand-carved wood, completed by women due to their smaller hands. It is stunningly beautiful. The Maria Stein site, founded in 1843, was historically a nunnery of the Sisters of the Precious Blood. Today there are only about 120 nuns left in the order. Well attended masses are held at the site daily. The group enjoyed lunch afterward at a local café. Those in attendance completed a wonderful bonding of new found friendships with people met just six hours previously. Ms Veronica Pociask requested that next year the Knights of Columbus should sponsor a busload of visitors for another field trip. A final observation by our Faithful Navigator, Jon Sullivan, is that in the land of Cross-Tipped churches there, none of the churches are locked. They are all left open to the public 24 hours a day, unsupervised, and with only portables locked away! Jon noted that this is the kind of world I so want to live in. The September 15 th recognition was for service completed in a very important role for the council. Need for More Sack Lunches Increases The number of sack lunches packed by the council knights was increased from 100 to 150 due to the Harvest Soup Kitchen needs increase in recent weeks. The knights that assembled the October sack lunches quickly responded to the request by providing more sack lunches. 6 Some Important Dates to Remember Please take note of the following dates. Be sure to confirm the 2016 dates because some might be revised later. 1. Celebration of Fall Dinner and Silent Auction is November 7 th. Doors open about 5:30 pm. It will be a fun evening with lots of great auction items. Come one, come all, for a great dinner and silent auction. More detailed information is presented elsewhere in this newsletter. 2. K of C Celebration of Christmas with a dinner at the Family Center on Tuesday, December 8 th. 3. The K of C District Master has reserved March 5, 2016 for a 4 th Degree Exemplification. It is to be sponsored by our Council 560 and available for anyone in the state of Indiana who wishes to move to the 4 th degree. 4. Third Annual Awards Recognition Banquet will be held for our K of C Council 560 and Assembly 243 on April 7, First Annual Muncie Knights of Columbus Golf Outing is scheduled at Players Club in Muncie on July 31, Contact Knight John Reynolds, chair of the outing, for more information. Building The Domestic Church The Family Fully Alive* The Knights of Columbus recently sent out a booklet focused on the family as domestic church and a place of encounter with Christ within the community of a particular Christian family (noted by Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson). Laying the cornerstone of the domestic church is stressed as prayers, devotions, and family activities. The booklet focuses on monthly activities. The November focus is because the Lord is the God of our ancestors, we want to strengthen the relationships between our family s generations. Meditation 1. Who is one person in our family whose faith shaped my own? What strengths does each member of our family have? 2. What are some ways our family tries to live out belief in God and his Church? Which virtue seems to be particularly strong in our family faith, hope, or charity? 3. Why is keeping alive the memory of our history, our family roots, important to shaping the future? Family Project 1. Making a family tree is a great way to celebrate one s ancestry and learn about past events that have shaped each family member to be who he or she is today. 2. Connect with your family by corresponding with grandparents or other relatives. Send the cards or notes saying thinking of you. Have all family members sign the card or note. 3. Set aside time to visit graves of deceased relatives and to pray for them. Scripture Reading 1. Praise to God, who is always faithful to his promises.
