This expression encapsulates the entire month of April heading into May and June. As a teenager who grew up with Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, and The Cars, I am excited to attend and work at the Rock & Roll Reverse Raffle! It will be a great time jamming with DJ Sean Kelly to You Give Love a Bad Name, Money for Nothing, Good Times Roll, and other great hall of fame music while hopefully winning $1000!!! The Council is also rockin after an awesome time at the parish Easter Egg Hunt! The excitement will continue with the Council s Awards Dinner and election of officers for We have been celebrating our Star Council award this year and will honor a Knight, Family, and Youth of the Year. Hope to see you there! New officers will be elected next month, and, like every successful organization, new blood is vital to making our council even better. We have benefited from the ideas and hard work of our new members and are excited to hear new ideas and work with experienced members. Just as Progressive Field was rockin after a come-from-behind walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday and the CAVS are rockin toward the playoffs, Knights is rockin its way into a new fraternal year Be a part of it! Jeff Fry, GK 1

He proposed that we make the annual Coats of Kids a year round project. o THE COUNCIL DISCUSSED: Agreed that we should consider providing more than coats and doing so through out the year. (see attachment) o Baron Bus Line o Lodging o 6 meals o White House Tour o Immaculate Conception Basilica Mass and TOUR LECTURER Deacon Bob Youngblood Topic: Martyrs Martyrs are Saints who laid down their lives for their faith. Some saints were martyred early in Church history. Others have died recently for example: Father Jacques Hamel (30 November July 2016) was a French Catholic priest....on 26 July 2016, Hamel was murdered...by two Muslim men pledging allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq... while he celebrated Mass in his church. The circumstances of his death have led him to be called a martyr by Christians, including Pope Francis, non- Christians, and the press. 5

9 A 3 rd Degree Exemplification was held on March 18 th at St Hilary Church. John Kelly and Charles LeGuillon were accompanied by GK Jeff Fry to this degree. Congratulations, men. Rosary for Unborn Children The Knights Council and the Prince of Peace Rosary Group gathered to say the Rosary for unborn children on March 23 rd. We had a good turnout for an afternoon Rosary: eleven men and seven wives from the council participated. DEEPENING OUR FAITH Deacon Bob Highlights from the meeting Last month we talked about saints. Did anyone get a chance to read about a saint? Today we will talk about martyrs. Who knows the difference between a saint and a martyr? Martyrs are Christians who laid down their lives for the faith. Can you think of any martyrs? Any apostles? Any patron saints? On March 10 we remembered the 40 martyrs of Sebaste. The 40 martyrs were soldiers quartered at Sebaste in Armenia in the year 320. When their legion was ordered to offer sacrifice to a false god, they separated themselves from the rest and formed a company of martyrs. After they had been torn by scourges and iron hooks, they were chained together and led to a lingering death. It was a rough winter, and they were condemned to lie naked on the icy surface of a pond in the open air till they were frozen to death. They went joyfully to their deaths, saying grant that 40 may be crowned. Among the 40 there was a young soldier who held out longest against the cold, and when the officers came to cart away the dead bodies, they found him still breathing. They were moved with pity, and wanted to leave him alive in the hope that he would still change his mind. But his mother stood by and this valiant woman could not bear to see her son separated from the band of martyrs. She lifted his cold body onto the cart. He was just able to give a sign of recognition before he was carried away to be thrown into the flames with the dead bodies of his brethren. Now, for a look at the life of a recent martyr. Father Jacques Hamel, an 85 yr old French priest whose throat was slit on July 26, 2016 by assassins professing loyalty to Isis in Normandy while he was celebrating morning mass. He is now a candidate for sainthood. If you want to see what Christ looks like, look at those who participate in him in the most dramatic way. There is no more intense express of God s love than martyrdom. It is showing for the heart of God, showing forth the cross, which is where that heart is most clearly on display. All who live the life of grace are one in Christ. But besides this, there are many specialties of theology, community life, prayer, and pious works. Thank God if he has bound you to others by these spiritual ties and pray that the bond which unites you here may last for eternity. 9
