If you are like me, you had a wonderful Christmas season with family and are looking ahead to an exciting year with challenges to overcome, relationships to cultivate, and ways to better serve others. This past year, our council was dedicated to raising money, donating to worthy charities and causes, and promoting the fraternal programs which allow us to become closer as friends and families. As individuals and leaders, we need to evaluate and be open to change. Our core values are charity, unity, and fraternity; and we pledge to help the most vulnerable, including the mentally disabled, poor, young, and widows. The programs that we typically support are tried and true, but we branched out in multiple ways this past year to reach more people and to promote our core values. The challenges that we face most involve participation and leadership. If we are to continue to improve and expand our council, we need to promote new ideas, take charge of programs and assist council directors, and recruit good men to help. I am confident that parishioners recognize and appreciate the work that Council provides, but they need to realize that the work doesn t just do itself, and that membership involves having fun and creating new relationships. There seems to be a direct correlation between a vibrant Prince of Peace Parish and a vibrant K of C and both take a lot of dedication and effort. Let s work toward a great 2019! Jeff Fry, GK 1

4 The Council s Annual celebration of Christmas (caroling at Pleasant View and dinner at Prince of Peace) was successful Concerns: Because we had Council members and wives serving the dinner, they may not have enjoyed the evening as much as others. Next year we will either need to ask the caterer to serve the food. Or next year we need to order more food so that people can server themselves at a buffet without our running out of food. 7 CHRISTMAS CAROLING AT PLEASANT VIEW/PLEASANT POINTE Residents of Pleasant View and Pleasant Pointe were entertained by council members and their families on December 14 th during our annual Christmas caroling program. With a large turnout for caroling, the enthusiastic singers were divided into two groups. A group then sang at each facility and gave out Christmas cards and little gifts that had been made for this event in November by the Ladies Auxiliary. Fr. Bob sings with the Pleasant View group N O E L Sophia wore her Christmas best Thanks to Mike & Diane for organizing this event! 7

8 Council Family Christmas Dinner After caroling at Pleasant View and Pleasant Pointe the members and families met at the hall for a Christmas meal. Breaking away from the traditional restaurant dinner this year, members relaxed for an evening of good food and social time. FAMILY 8

9 Thirty-nine people enjoyed the Council Family Christmas Dinner at the hall after caroling at Pleasant View and Pleasant Point. Fr. Bob said grace and then the dinner was served. It was buffet style and included roast beef, fried chicken, rigatoni, buttered redskin potatoes, green beans, tossed salad, rolls and butter, pie and beverages for only $10 per person. Kids ate free. The Family Christmas Dinner is one of several events during the year for the whole family. This last year the council families enjoyed a day at the Akron Zoo, a Rubber Ducks game, and a family bowling party! 5 th SUNDAY ROSARY Our 5 th Sunday Rosary was December 30 th. Thank you to all who came in a little early to say the Rosary. Thank you, Paul Wagner for leading the Rosary. More about Coats for kids Our council sent 14 new boys and girls coats to Guardian Angels church this month as part of our Coats for Kids program. Our donation will support their Warm Hearts and Warm Hands program, a drive spearheaded by their Altar Society. This donation is a small effort toward providing something for other parishes represented by members in our council. Council finally receives Awards District Deputy Kevin Hogan brought three awards to the meeting that had been earned by the council during the last fraternal year but were never delivered. The Compass Award for Charity is a State award given for completion of activities in the Church, Community, and Family State Programs.
