1 Queenship of Mary Council #12004 Minutes of Meeting of May 24th, 2016 Meeting was called to order by Grand Knight at 8:03 pm with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Due to the presence of two visitors, Tricia Baker from A.I.R., and the Youth Minister, Kirbi Marquez, T1 moved we go to an Open Meeting. Motion seconded, voted and carried. Officers Present: Grand Knight Peter Pfister, Deputy Grand Knight Fran O'Connell, Chancellor Tom Schamper, Warden Gary Hyer, Inside Guard Bob Krupskas, Outside Guard Gilberto Del Rio, Trustee One Henry Wieck and Trustee Two Tony Kosar. Others excused. Minutes of previous meeting: Minutes of previous meeting approved as e- mailed. Admissions: None Chaplain's Report: The weekly Gospel message and homily were read. Visitors participated in small group discussions of the reflective questions. GK s Report: Our participation at the A.I.R. 5K event 5/21 was successful and profitable. This year we only offered burgers and cheeseburgers and, as a joke that someone took us up on, cheese and a bun with no burger. We also sold soda. This is only our second year and we are still feeling our way as to what the attendees would like in the way of snacks or breakfast items. DGK took on the task of monitoring the A.I.R. volunteers distributing water along the 5K route. Our Brother, Deacon Hugo, gave the blessing of the animals. Brother Frank Persico's wife, Connie, oversaw the First Aid Station. As the old joke goes, she was prepared to render medical attention to both man and beast, but fortunately had no clients. McCaffrey's donated three very large sheet cakes which we were tasked with cutting and serving. LOTS of cake! You should have come out.

2 We had about 25 frozen burgers at the end of the day and offered them to the Cub Scouts for their overnight in the rectory yard the following weekend, but they were not needed. The Memorial Mass on 5/22 was nicely done. We did not request to handle the ministerial aspects (hospitality, lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, etc.) this year, but opted for simply being present for the memories of our departed brothers. The turn out was good and it was nice to see Brothers identifying ourselves in everything from blue shirts, jackets with lapel pins, and even a few Fourth Degree Brothers in black tie and baldric. Thank you all for making that Mass special. Upcoming events: Next Parish Breakfast cooked up by us Knights will be May 29th- PGK Henry Wieck will be sending out a sign-up sheet. Saturday, June 4th, 8:30-12:30 soliciting at McCaffreys to assist those with Intellectual Disabilities- known by the familiar name Tootsie Roll Drive. Again PGK will send out sign up sheet. Sunday, June 5th, soliciting at Bagel Street Deli (Princeton Meadows/Asian Market shopping center) for the Tootsie Roll Drive. We'll probably spend five hours there. We have not done these outside solicitations since the GK was a newbie, so some of you may be a little timid, not knowing what to expect. You'll have two or three Brother Knights with you and I found people were quite pleasant to us, even if they could not donate. We gave them a Tootsie Roll and a smile, anyway. July 16 th We are doing a BBQ at Great Expectations in Somerset. Should be fun for us AND the mothers and children. We should be good guests and bring gifts, so think of getting diapers, formula and such that we could bring along and donate. Maybe we can ask some of the other parishioners and ministries if they would like to contribute, too. Sept 10 Cranbury Day. Like a mini-founders day, as far as our operation is concerned. It's fun. They have a marching band that is very amusing! Mark your calendar. Sept 11 Parish Picnic. We flip the burgers. And do other stuff, as needed or asked. Obviously something we look forward to every year!

3 Next Columbian Year we will stay with the new schedule of meeting on the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesdays. A sampling indicated we had no strong preference and it was simpler for all Ministries involved with Tuesday meetings not to flip-flop from year to year! * * * * * Tricia Baker spoke on behalf of A.I.R. to thank us Knights for all we do, especially assisting at the A.I.R. event, going above and beyond just cooking the burgers. (GK Note - Assisting families is our founding purpose.) She presented us with a very beautiful plaque! The GK was touched. Kirbi Marquez spoke about the Steubenville Catholic workshop and told us a lot about its history and its growth which we were unaware of. He also thanked us for sponsoring a student from Queenship to attend the conference/retreat at St John's University this year. He appreciated that we truly lived up to 'making church matter' by helping out the Youth Ministry. * * * * * After the visitors left, we voted to go back to a Closed Meeting. Financial Secretary's Report: Brother excused. No Report this meeting. Treasurer's Report: Brother excused. No Report this meeting. Trustees' Report: No report. Committee Reports: Culture of Life Committee Chair, Gilberto Del Rio, reported that an event will be held to promote the cause in March of He also reminded us that the Rosary Rally comes up in the Fall. Usually Brother Joe Sarbella advises us of the local time and place where we can attend when the time draws near. New Business: Council Elections. Names submitted to the slate are read at three successive meetings. This was the First Reading. The position of Financial Secretary is appointed by Supreme Council. Prayer Shawl Ministry Request- GK received a request from Tara Clewell for $100 for supplies. Moved, seconded and voted that we would fund this. There was a discussion that we had underwritten a larger amount in the past, that the Prayer Shawl Ministry would draw from as needed. We did not know the immediate status of that account, but this evening's vote was for $100 above and beyond that. Report of 4th Degree: Next Assembly meeting is on May 25th at St. Joachim's. June 4th- Annual Picnic at Lyons Veteran Hospital at 11:00 a.m. Meet at Time to Dine in Somerville at 9:30. June 12th- Patriotic Dinner- Mercer Oaks. Brother Chet Kulak, retiring State District Master, who has held several offices in his Council, Assembly and State will be the honoree. Probably too late for tickets now. June 14th- Flag Day- Noon flag raising ceremony at Mercer County Park, Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Color Corps attending. Light refreshments afterwards. A trip to the Knights of Columbus Museum and to St Mary's Church (where Fr. McGivney founded the Knights) in New Haven is being planned for August. Tank Pull event is scheduled for September. You need not pull a tank to participate.

5 This year's Fourth Degree Exemplification is expected to be in November. October will be too late (too close) to submit an application. The Assembly does not usually meet in August. May's meeting is tomorrow. HENCE, if this is the year for you to become a Fourth Degree Sir Knight, you have only three dates left to apply. Do not dawdle! If interested in ANY of the above, please see the GK; he's your rep to the Assembly. Field Agent Report: GK received a letter from the Agency head that our field agent, Brother Henry Angelucci, recently received two awards! He continues to excel by keeping us informed, making sure our coverage is up-to-date and by putting our interests first. District Deputy's Report: DD Scott Williams reminded us we have a new Bishop and that the retiring Bishop, Bishop Emeritus Paul Bootkoski, a Brother Knight, has accepted the position of State Chaplain to the Knights. Scott also gave us some 'number facts' we can be proud of. New Jersey Councils donated over one million man hours of charitable work, and gave $4,700,000 to charity. There are 63 thousand Knights in New Jersey. Offering membership is still very important though. Last year 1500 men joined the Knights in New Jersey but we lost 1700 (deaths, relocations, resignations), for a net loss of 200 Knights. Our Deputy also presented us with the John F. Murphy Award which our Council received at the recent State Convention in Wildwood. Lastly he advised us there is an instructional and informational meeting for Grand Knights and/or delegates June 25 th in Somerset. Nice breakfast & lunch provided. For the good of the order: GK solicited anyone in need of our prayers. Noted illnesses: Prayers for Brother John Wiegartner's father-in-law undergoing chemotherapy, for Maria Angel Del Rio also undergoing treatment for cancer, and for Jeanne Bellas, wife of family of Brother John Bellas, who sustained severe ankle injuries. Also for Laura, sister of Past Faithful Navigator Joe Melillo, who is fighting for her life. We also pray for Pope Francis, as he requests, and who reminds us not to forget.
