Jesus said Come Watch one Hour with Me Brother Knights of Council 3303 can stand proud in knowing that their Council is positioned among the top Councils of the state and is remembered by all who have attended any of our events. Even though this year is coming to an end, we should look ahead to a new year with all the opportunities that await us. Our newly elected Officers are already planning next year's calendar and are very capable of successfully leading the Council in Remember to keep them in our prayers as they take on their new positions and lead our Council to greater achievements. I would also like to thank our Brother Knights and their wives 'who throughout this entire year have helped me and supported this council in moving ahead in a direction that benefited us all. I will not mention them by name but we all know who they are by their active involvement in events that were hosted throughout the year. I thank them from the bottom of my heart because without these Brother Knights and their wives, I surely would not have made it to the end of my term. I will never forget them. Its active and helpful individuals like there that make our Council what it is today. My year as Grand Knight has truly been one that I will never forget. I have learned a great deal about the council and the Brother Knights who make everything happen. I feel that by their example it has enriched my life and made me a better Knight. My wife Lynn and I thank you for a truly wonderful and fun year. Vivat Jesus Patrick Rocco GK DGK Comments for June 2013 First, many thank to all the Brothers who worked so hard to make the Founders Day Breakfast such a big success. Making the arrangements, printing and selling the tickets, decorating the Hall, cooking and serving the breakfast, cleaning the Hall and doing all the dishes was a BIG job. Lots of Knights and their wives were involved so many THANKS to all of you. I would be remiss if I did not remind you of the Bishop s Annual Appeal. There are 30 Ministries supported by these funds and we again ask for your support. With the number of religious shrinking daily, it is imperative that we support those Ministries which are growing and developing our Spiritual Advisors. Thanks in advance for you support. Lastly, I am looking forward to serving as your Grand Knight for the next fraternal year and am honored by your confidence in me to lead this Outstanding Council. Your past officers have been a big help in preparing me and I thank them and all my brothers for their support. Dick Dodson DGK

2 PAGE 2 K NIGHT LIGHTE R V OLUME 2013, IS SUE 3 Faithful Navigators Report Sir Knights as we move ahead into the Twelfth and final month of this fraternal year let s look back a little and reflect on what we have accomplished during the past 12 months; I must start with mentioning all the hard working individuals who come out religiously, most every week, to work in the Blue Building organizing all the donated items that seem to come in faster than they can be arranged and put in their proper place. The dedicated pick-up crew of seemingly tireless men is the back-bone to our very successful Yard Sales. A Hugh Thank you to all these devoted, enthusiastic and committed Women and Men who make our Sales what they are. The 3 Sales we have each year give us the opportunity to do so much for our Church, School and the many Organizations that we donate to throughout the year in our local community. Without the hard work of so many, this Assembly would not be able to perform its Patriotic, Charitable and Humanitarian efforts. We have been truly blessed as an Assembly. The Color Corps and Honor Guard again did an exceptional job in attending the wakes and funerals of our fallen brothers as well as taking part in numerous community events. I thank these gentlemen for the commitment of their time and resources. Their dedication to the Assembly is truly obvious and visible to all who witness their presence. The Wounded Warrior Chicken BBQ we jointly hosted with the neighboring ELKS was a superb effort that showed commitment to our principle of Patriotism. Coupled with our collection at Church, we were able to raise a significant amount of capital to send home for the holidays, through the Military Order of the Purple Heart of North Carolina, Wounded Warriors from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune & Fort Bragg. Fifty Nine candidates received the honors of the 4 th Degree at the Exemplification the Assembly hosted in the Hall. Seven members of the New Bern Council became Sir Knight s. The Honoree for the Regional Ceremony was SK Robert Chick Natella, PGK - PFN. The Assembly celebrated its 33 rd Anniversary and recognized the Past Faithful Navigators who have lead this Assembly through its years in existence, at a formal dinner. To have these individuals gathered in one room, along with the widow of one of the PFN s, was an experience I won t soon forget. There are other events that Assembly 1820 has been involved in throughout the course of the year that are too numerous to mention here. The most important thing to remember is that our Assembly remains active and the good that comes from it is not only a tribute to every Knight who takes part in its activities, but also to the community that benefits from its benevolence. And so we continue in good standing today, with the Supreme Council, the Desoto Province, and the District. Although we do not know what the future holds for us, we do know who holds the future and with continued prayer to our heavenly Father and the principles of our Honored Order as our guide, we will continue to serve our Church, our Families and our Community for many years to come. Remember to keep our deceased Brothers and their families in your prayers. Let us not forget to pray for all the members of our armed forces, especially those in harm s way keeping us safe, protecting our freedom and our way of life. Sir Knights, keep a rosary in your pocket, a song in your heart and be of service to somebody. Vivat Jesus. There were 26 Candidates from all over the State with Council 3303 having 4 candidates that became full Knights in our order. Many Knights from our Council helped with the Ceremony and SK Danny Gennantonio was the Honoree for the Exemplification. GK Patrick Rocco Pictured L-R: Br Nick Dalessandro, Br Paul Sarsfield, GK Pat Rocco, Br Jim Anderson, and Br Juan Pedro K of C Lounge Renovation Project After almost 11 months it is DONE. The project, as originally envisioned was going to take about 1 month and consisted of replacing the ceiling, painting the walls and installing in a new carpet. Then the fun began. We were offered the services (gratis, of course) of the Maggy Costandy design firm in the person of Margaret Volney. Since it was offered gratis we let them create some designs that would transform the old bar into a lounge that would be a showplace for the Knights and their guests. There were many meetings and discussions by the Board design team (made up of Jim Kelly, Bill Zachman and Chick Natella) and final approval was given to proceed with the new concept. The old bar would be torn down and replaced with a more upscale look, the cabinets would be repositioned behind the new bar, the 3 rd and 4 th degree logos would be framed, indirect lighting would replace the overhead fluorescent lights and the walls would be enhanced with wood designs. We replaced the TV with a 42 flat screen model. After mounting the TV on the back wall it seemed very small for the room and it was decided to move the TV to the wall behind the bar and purchase a 70 TV for the back wall. With everything looking new and updated we then elected to replace the furniture with tables and chairs that would complement the new décor. We now have a Lounge that we all can be very proud of and so far we have received many compliments from other councils on what has been accomplished. The list of Brother Knights who have helped reads like a Who s Who of our Council. I would like to especially thank Jim Dunham and Vince Fragnito who spent countless hours building the new bar, installing the indirect lighting system, mounting the wall treatment and creating the Lounge you now see. Others who helped included Bob Sisco, Joe Urbaniak, Kevin Blust, Ralph Aviles, Phil Nassef and Bill Camp. If I left anybody out I apologize but as stated earlier we had so much help from everyone that it was truly a Knights project. To celebrate the completion we will have a Grand Opening for all Knights and their significant others on June 14, 2013 from 6PM to 9 PM with FREE beer, wine and hors d oeuvres. The lounge will be available at other times to Brother Knights for small parties and gatherings for a nominal fee. Capacity of the lounge is 49. As a final note we will have the Lounge open every Friday night from 6PM to 10PM starting June 5, Please come by and enjoy your new facility. Jim Kelly

7 PAGE 7 K NIGHT LIGHTE R VOLUME 2013, IS SUE 3 SCATTER vs. GATHER While I was at the corner grocery store buying some early potatoes, I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily appraising a basket of freshly picked green peas. I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes. Pondering the peas, I couldn't help overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller (the store owner) and the ragged boy next to me. 'Hello Barry, how are you today?' H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas. They sure look good' 'They are good, Barry. How's your Ma?' 'Fine. Gittin' stronger alla' time.' 'Good. Anything I can help you with?' 'No, Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas.' 'Would you like to take some home?' asked Mr. Miller. 'No, Sir. Got nuthin' to pay for 'em with.' 'Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?' 'All I got's my prize marble here.' 'Is that right? Let me see it', said Miller. 'Here 'tis. She's a dandy.' 'I can see that. Hmm mmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home?' the store owner asked. 'Not zackley but almost.' 'Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at that red marble.' Mr. Miller told the boy. 'Sure will. Thanks Mr. Miller.' Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me. With a smile she said, 'There are two other boys like him in our community, all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples, tomatoes, or whatever. When they come back with their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or an orange one, when they come on their next trip to the store.' I left the store smiling to myself, impressed with this man. A short time later I moved to Colorado, but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys, and their bartering for marbles. Several years went by, each more rapid than the previous one. Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that Idaho community, and while I was there learned that Mr. Miller had died. They were having his visitation that evening, and knowing my friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them. Upon arrival at the mortuary, we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could. Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits, and white shirts...all very professional looking. They approached Mrs. Miller, standing composed and smiling by her husband's casket. Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her and moved on to the casket. Her misty, light blue eyes followed them as, one by one, each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary awkwardly wiping his eyes. Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller. I told her who I was and reminded her of the story from those many years ago and what she had told me about her husband's bartering for marbles. With her eyes glistening, she took my hand and led me to the casket. 'Those three young men who just left were the boys I told you about. They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim 'traded' them. Now, at last, when Jim could not change his mind about color or size...they came to pay their debt.' 'We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world,' she confided, 'but right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho...'With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting underneath were three exquisitely shined red marbles. The Moral: We will not be remembered by our words, but by our kind deeds. Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath. Today I wish you a day of ordinary miracles ~ A fresh pot of coffee you didn't make yourself.. An unexpected phone call from an old friend... Green traffic lights when you drive...the fastest line at the grocery store...your keys found right where you left them. IT'S NOT WHAT YOU GATHER, BUT WHAT YOU SCATTER that tells what kind of life you have lived! ANON. Submitted by SK Denny Colbert
